New microarchitecture, new level of performance

Piledriver microarchitecture, a tuned-up Bulldozer, has finally reached the flagship AMD FX processors (the new FX series processors are codenamed as Vishera) for improved performance and better energy-efficiency. Four “Piledriver” cores ensure rich, crisp video and seamless multitasking. The AMD Turbo Core technology pushes your core frequencies to the most when you need it most. To top it off, like all other AMD’s Black Edition processors, the new AMD FX 4-core Vishera processor black edition is unlocked for fabulous overclocking* capability. Great performance is not the only trick AMD has up their sleeve. Vishera processors are at a reasonable price point. (*AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.)

  • newegg New Piledriver microarchitecture Piledriver microarchitecture is the second generation of AMD Bulldozer microarchitecture. The internal core structure has been modified for higher frequencies even without any changes in the manufacturing process. Piledriver has a more precise branch predictor and a larger instruction window with ISA extensions FMA3 and F16C. The execution units acquired an enhanced scheduler and learned to process individual instructions faster, such as integer and floating-point division. And Piledriver microarchitecture delivers higher power efficiency compared with Bulldozer microarchitecture.
  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX processor with 4 Piledriver cores The native 4-core desktop processor ensures rich, crisp video and seamless multitasking. new Piledriver microarchitecture. 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. The AMD unlocked technology offers more headroom for your overclocking (AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.).
  • newegg AMD Turbo technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg Amazing instruction capabilities Like Bulldozer, Piledriver has some amazing instruction capabilities. Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD Hypertransport technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology AMD FX Vishera Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports faster and low voltage memories and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).

5 out of 5 eggsGood goof up

Pros: Good Processor for the price. Certainly runs my Kubuntu 12.04 setup very nicely.

Cons: If you're choosing between this and the FX6300, you're taking a 2 core hit for a very minor gain in base performance. However, I can't remark on OCed benchmarks as I'm running this stock.

Other Thoughts: Messed up and accidentally ordered this vs the FX6300. However, this was on sale at the time so still quite happy how it all turned out. The stock heatsink really is a sorry looking thing, but is keeping the processor well within spec (41-43c) on medium setting. So I'll just keep it.

5 out of 5 eggsBudget awesomeness

Pros: This processor is a bounty of budget-friendly power. I like to build low cost gaming systems, and this processor has not disappointed me. With four cores and very substantial clock speed, I am very happy with the purchase.

Cons: I guess the only con is that it isn't 8 cores.

4 out of 5 eggsWhat a little beast.

Pros: Good price for a great CPU, I can't even run it above 40% because of case air-flow issues.

Cons: The heat sink what it comes with sucks, do yourself a favor and buy an extra one.

Other Thoughts: All in all, this is a great CPU for the price, can't go wrong here. Would have given it 5 eggs if it wasn't fot the heat sink.

5 out of 5 eggsVery snappy

Pros: Very good cpu to base a mid range system on. Couple this with a 150 dollar or more video card and you'll have a good gaming system.

Cons: None

3 out of 5 eggsCooler went bad after 3 months

Pros: Lightning fast, handles every application with ease.

Cons: CPU fan has gone bad as of a couple weeks ago, after only a short few months.

Probably a bearing. Sounds like grinding. Tried to reseat it. Unsure if lubricating breaks warranty so haven't done so.

Very disappointed as the noise is extremely annoying and I haven't used my PC much because of it.

5 out of 5 eggsDecent

Pros: I used this before upgrading to an FX 8350. And I have to say, it is decent for what you pay for. If you do everyday computing then this CPU is great and responsive. As for gaming, this will handle decently but this WILL bottleneck you in game such as Crysis 3 and BF4 if you have a video card over 180$ish. However it plays MOST games very well without bottleneck.

Cons: None I can think of

Other Thoughts: If you play hardware demanding games, just go for the 8350/8320. After upgrading to an 8350 after this one, my FPS has gone up considerably. Save yourself the time and buy something worth it for what you are doing.

5 out of 5 eggsEh

Pros: The CPU works well. I built this and an i3 at the same time. The i3 preformed better but also cost more. This is AMDs sweet spot. 4 cores and high clock speed for $110. I have been happy with AMD on budget builds.

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Replacement Policy

Pros: Looked decent benchmark wise.

Cons: Arrived late, and broken. There was a missing pin and a large section of pins were bent. Now I have to pay if I want to return it...? If you send someone a broken item and you don't expedite the process or even pay the shipping to replace your defective item, you are an awful provider.

AMD has always sent poorly put together CPU packages for me and most look used, but until now I haven't had a problem.

Other Thoughts: If they could ensure an RMA, and ship it back themselves that would be respectable. OR maybe inspect the product before it is shipped.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent processor!

Pros: I have only had this proccesor for a week, but I am loving it so far. It is a great "bang for your buck" CPU, and it runs very cool even when under stress. I'm very happy with it.

Cons: Heat sink fan isn't great, as is the case with most stock fans.

Other Thoughts: Perfect for a budget build
