New microarchitecture, new level of performance

Piledriver microarchitecture, a tuned-up Bulldozer, has finally reached the flagship AMD FX processors (the new FX series processors are codenamed as Vishera) for improved performance and better energy-efficiency. Four “Piledriver” cores ensure rich, crisp video and seamless multitasking. The AMD Turbo Core technology pushes your core frequencies to the most when you need it most. To top it off, like all other AMD’s Black Edition processors, the new AMD FX 4-core Vishera processor black edition is unlocked for fabulous overclocking* capability. Great performance is not the only trick AMD has up their sleeve. Vishera processors are at a reasonable price point. (*AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.)

  • newegg New Piledriver microarchitecture Piledriver microarchitecture is the second generation of AMD Bulldozer microarchitecture. The internal core structure has been modified for higher frequencies even without any changes in the manufacturing process. Piledriver has a more precise branch predictor and a larger instruction window with ISA extensions FMA3 and F16C. The execution units acquired an enhanced scheduler and learned to process individual instructions faster, such as integer and floating-point division. And Piledriver microarchitecture delivers higher power efficiency compared with Bulldozer microarchitecture.
  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX processor with 4 Piledriver cores The native 4-core desktop processor ensures rich, crisp video and seamless multitasking. new Piledriver microarchitecture. 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. The AMD unlocked technology offers more headroom for your overclocking (AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.).
  • newegg AMD Turbo technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg Amazing instruction capabilities Like Bulldozer, Piledriver has some amazing instruction capabilities. Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD Hypertransport technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology AMD FX Vishera Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports faster and low voltage memories and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).

5 out of 5 eggsVery good value as expected from AMD

Pros: Very quick processor. Just what the doctor ordered for my partner's ~$550 build I did for her. Installation was the easiest of any CPU I've ever installed. Took me longer to apply the thermal paste and remove the thermal paste from the stock fan than anything else.

With Arctic Silver paste & the stock fan, it's idling at around 37 - 42 C, which is fairly good considering that our condo's pretty warm right now.

Seems to be handling everything she throws at it with ease. She plays a few Steam games, which have run beautifully, and also uses a lot of Photoshop for her artwork.

As always, Newegg's shipping was extremely quick, all of the parts including this showed up in perfect condition, no dings/dents/tears in the packaging.

Cons: Maybe the power consumption? I knew this before buying, but 95W seems a tad high for a CPU based on what I know. (Could be off here)

Other Thoughts: Runs cooler than my i7 when I had to use the stock cooler for it a while back. The stock fan is actually pretty quiet (though it's still the loudest in the case). Even under load it doesn't get very loud, which is just what I wanted for this build.

5 out of 5 eggsGood processor

Pros: This comes with a stock fan and heatsink and an instruction manual. Not much to tell here really. CPU went in without any problems and seems to be working just fine at 3.8 ghz. :)

Cons: Took a min to find the marked edge of the processor. Once i found that, it was easy to install. No real cons to mention here. Running at 38C atm.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat processor so far

Pros: Extremely fast. My mobo has it overclocked to 4.1 GHz without a problem so far and it is staying nice and cool.

Cons: none so far

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Processor

Pros: I have used this processor in a computer in my garage where the temp gets 90-100 degrees sometimes. I can run my machinery and play games like Titanfall, and BF4 with no trouble.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic CPU

Pros: For its' price, you can't really beat this thing, it's bloody amazing.

Cons: The stock fan/heatsink is LOUD during the summer but I suppose that's to be expected from one that came with the processor. Personally I'd recommend picking up a separate one unless you can put up with the noise when your room is warm.

Other Thoughts: I got this cheap in a bundle and oh how happy I am with it. Watch Dogs you say? 60 fps.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU!

Pros: I've been running AND processors for years and have no real reason to change. I don't play games, or do a lot of photo/video processing. All of the processors I've got run quite well, and I'm pleased. Even the stock CPU fan keeps the temp low. Quad core for a backup server will be more than enough power.

Cons: None

4 out of 5 eggsI'd go with a 6300 minimum

Pros: For less than 100$ this isn't a bad deal but there is better options out there for around the same money.
This 4 module CPU really does consume less power and run quieter than the 6 core fx or 8 core fx

Cons: People need to stop saying things such as "games don't use more than 4 cores anyways". This is true most of the time newer games are easily using more cores. Also this is a 4 core but at the same time it shares resources and once you use 2 of the 4 cores heavily(Most games easily use 3 cores now with newer ones using 4-5) performance per thread drops to 80% this is over the module design so think of this processor as a 80% X 4 core and the 6 Core as a 80% X 6 core and a 8 core as a 80% X 8 core
4 Core fx=3.2 core processor
6 Core fx= 4.8 core processor
8 Core fx= 6.4 Core processor
Now take into account that Amd needs to use as many cores as possible over its poor single threaded performance(around 40-50% slower per clock compared to Intel)

Other Thoughts: For maximum performance for 4 heavily threaded games pick a 8 core Fx and for heavily 3 threaded games pick a 6 core fx and for heavily 2 threaded games pick a 4 core Fx processor this way games do not have to share resources so much.

Really a 4 core Fx should be competing with a Pentium not between a Pentium-I3.

5 out of 5 eggsPlenty of power for gaming

Pros: Very stable, has never hung or blue screened
Performs well with current games on max settings

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: The only software I have that can effectively make use of all four cores is Blender. There's no point in spending money on six or eight cores unless you have software that will actually use them all. Games don't even really use four cores yet.

5 out of 5 eggs  Awesome Processor

Pros: Runs great even with stock heatsink.
Super easy to install.

Cons: If you want to overclock you have to buy an after market heatsink.

Other Thoughts: Idles at 60C.
