1 out of 5 eggsPass on this Processor

Pros: I could not find one, honestly i tried since I have been an AMD loyalist for years!

Cons: I do not know where exactly to start.

At stock settings upon initial install, the chip was not stable. I would get freezing 2 to 3 minutes into booting up.

This was causes by Cool and Quite as well as having the C1 and C6 enabled on the motherboard.

After getting it stable through boot I proceeded to run some stress tests and Prime95, within 45 seconds of execution, took the processor above 65 Celsius. This is with and Corsair H105 on it.

Idle temps stayed around 47 Celsius.

I removed the water block, cleaned and reapplied new thermal paste and only sat a 3 degree change.

This processor is way too hot, I have no idea why AMD would release a chip with these temperatures.

Stay Away!

Other Thoughts: I thought I would be getting a chip with some head room to OC. I never even attempted it in fear of the temperatures.

The setup was as follows:
FX-9590
Asus, Crosshair VII
32 Gig Ripjaw Gskill
Corsair 1500W PSU
Corsair H105
Phanteks Enthoo Case (Best case I have ever purchased)
XFX r9 390

4 out of 5 eggsVery satisfied

Pros: - Tons of power
- Barely sweats running high-end games
- Very enjoyable to overclock once you learn how to tame it

Cons: - This CPU can be extremely touchy
- Overclocking is not for the weak of heart
- Requires liquid cooling / top of the line air cooler
- 200W so it requires a good power supply

Other Thoughts: I'd recommend upgrading to this CPU only if you have a high-end motherboard. As others have stated, some boards have trouble controlling this thing, and an outdated board won't stand a chance.

Also, this chip can run fine with air cooling if you have something along the lines of a Noctua DH-14, and a well vented case.

4 out of 5 eggsruns hot - need a cooler

Pros: Easy to install.

Cons: My PC was freezing up after I installed. I had to lower the clock speed and disable some energy saving options in BIOS.

Other Thoughts: I bought this chip in combo pack with Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 Rev. 4 and Corsair Vengeance Pro RAM. I expected that since the chip was bundled with the mobo that everything would just work. At first Windows would start then freeze, then it would just freeze at the WIndows boot screen. I suspect it may be heat related. I'm thinking a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO will do the job.

4 out of 5 eggsAMD FX-9590 Beast

Pros: i can't say anything bad so far about this processor, i think the price is fair compared to others. If i complained about anything, it would be the heat it produces ( it is hot). I have a liquid cooling system on it and gaming, i still see 60c sometimes. To me i think that's getting to hot personally, to others its not. so to each his own. Its fast, i don't wait on anything, my games increased in fps (alot) compared to my old system which was a AMD Quadcore 3.7Ghz black edition, it ran great, but time for upgrade.

Cons: Heat , that's it. That's the 4 star rating as well, heat.....too hot..

Other Thoughts: My system:

AMD FX-9590 EightCore 4.7GHz
Cooler Master Seidon 240M LiquidCooler
Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 Motherboard
32GB CORSAIR Vengeance Pro 1866 DDR3
SanDisk Ultra II 480GB SATA SSD
EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0+ 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 Graphics Card
Windows 10 Pro x64

4 out of 5 eggsFast but not completely stable!!!

Pros: This is an incredibly fast processor, with incredible overclocking potential. The base speed performance is so fast, I don't need to overclock.

Cons: This processor runs hot. You need to make sure it has a liquid cooler. Also get a sufficient power supply since this is a 200W CPU, and make sure the board can handle it too.

Other Thoughts: There are many cases where this processor freezes up. This isn't a defect, but rather an instability which can be fixed in the BIOS. The common solution is disable the C1 and C6 states. If that doesn't work, shut cool and quiet off. This should stabilize the processor.

If that doesn't work you may need to underclock it.

1 out of 5 eggsAmd just lost lifelong customer

Pros: Thought it was a good deal after doing tons of research when I purchased it in January.

Cons: This thing has locked my computer up for months before I finally realized it was the processor at fault!

Other Thoughts: Contacted their tech support asking to RMA after 6 months of frustration, before finally figuring out that it was the processor (silly me I've always been an AMD girl and assumed the processor would be the last thing to go bad especially considering I never OC).

Their tech support basically assumed I do not have enough knowledge to buy a board to support this processor (Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5 r.3 BIOS FCh which supports the FX 9590 LOOK it up AMD!). Also blamed me for having the wrong cooler (Corsair H100i which has several amazing reviews when paired with the FX 9590) although it seemed to keep the temps idling between 8 - 17c. Assumed I do not have the brains enough to buy a sufficient power supply... Assumed I didn't have the brains enough to use at least 1866mhz ram (Corsair 32GB) (okay, so I'm a chick and been a life long AMD fan.. I really must be stupid!).

This stupid girl who typically purchases 3 AMD processors at a time at least once a year... Has not only changed motherboards, but ram, video cards, and power supplies (including having gone through 2 of the Thermaltake power supplies AMD recommends and now on a 1000 watt Rosewill). But NOTHING has stopped this frustrating freezing!

Anyway, luckily I didn't sale the old FX8350 yet, and now I seem to have a fully functioning pc again and a $239.99 paperweight I guess.

I will not be putting another AMD product in our pcs.

3 out of 5 eggsGot a bad one

Pros: It's AMD

Cons: Purchased this in late January.. Complete new build, however since installing this thing I have spent months (6 months to be exact) trouble shooting this annoying freeze. Tried different motherboards, new ram, different video cards, and 3 different power supplies, 4 different hard drives reseating EVERYTHING reapplying arctic silver5. However this freeze is never cured, and only seems to be getting worse.

Other Thoughts: Finally figuring since the processor and sound card are the only things I have not changed... I decided to pop in my old processor AMD FX8350 and my pc finally seems to be stable!

5 out of 5 eggsUPDATE TO PREVIOUS

Pros: Same

Cons: Heat Gen

Other Thoughts: **This is simply an update since I had not pushed the CPU past stock 4.7Ghz. I finally was able to get my 240mm Liquid cooled (self enclosed not customized) setup installed and pushed it to 5.2ghz with a click of a button on the ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 MB, HOWEVER, had a issue with heat even with the new liquid cooling, at idle it pushed 55C easily after startup and not doing anything else.

I started the AZTEC programs for the cooler and set the fan at around 1750RPM since that was the fastest without the fans getting real loud to maintain that 55C, so determined from all that to really see a good OC on it, a heavy liquid cooling setup is a sure thing so plan on it.

Without OC the 4.7ghz stays idle around 30-35 and about 55 max w/ gaming load (far cry 4, wreckfest, minecraft FTB Infinity etc.) depending on ambient room temp of course.
