2 out of 5 eggs1 down...

Pros: After-market liquid cooling provided.

Cons: Installed the product into an ASUS mobo using a EVGA 850W gold PSU running Windows 7 SP1. The computer was randomly hanging when I would do something process intensive. I thought it was a GPU issue because this was often during game play. After performing several diagnostics and reviewing syslogs, I narrowed it down to the CPU. I read the reviews to stay away from this CPU but thought that it couldn't happen to me.

Other Thoughts: I am currently working with AMD to replace it through the warranty. I want to believe this processor is just as good as the Phenom series I had for years before I upgraded to the FX. I will re-submit a review based on AMD's warranty service.

1 out of 5 eggsKHAN!

Pros: Shipping was fast. Box was pretty.

Cons: Two of the screw holes in the radiator housing (side facing the case) came either incorrectly tapped or otherwise stripped. Were this on the side facing the inside of the case, this would be far less rage-inducing.

Other Thoughts: I was an electronics tech for the Navy for a decade, so I'm not exactly trying to friction weld with screws here, just snug stuff up so it doesn't jiggle.

Afraid to RMA because it's taken this much time and effort to get it at least marginally together... I don't want to have to take it apart again only to find something new, novel, and wrong with treplacement piece. Tempted to refill/retap the holes myself.

Haven't had a chance to even turn the thing on yet and I'm cursing a blue streak worse than what any ancient "built for .gov contract by the lowest bidder" stuff the Navy sat in front of me ever managed to get out of me. Not angry at NewEgg or even AMD... but someone at CoolerMaster (or they pay to build the cooling kit) should feel very, very bad about themselves.

Will test it all tomorrow when my slacker HD gets in. Hopefully it will all just work nice and I won't need to mess with anything else.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome chip, awesome cooler!

Pros: Super fast CPU.

Included water cooling system works perfectly. Chip runs 38-40c at idle. I've seen it go as high as 59c during heavy load, which is well within the specs.

Installation of the liquid cooler was much more straight-forward and easy (compared to some other liquid cooling systems I have installed). Also, the system is pre-filled, so no worrying about filling!

Cons: Fans can be loud when running @ 100%. If you're going to get an enthusiast-style chip like this, you need to be ready to deal with some fan noise. Complaining that your fan is noisy with a chip like this is like complaining that your car's exhaust is noisy when it's designed to be a 300 mph drag racer!

You can run the fan power line to the CPU fan output on the MB (they give you a 2-to-1 connector, allowing you to connect both CPU fans to one socket) so they increase/decrease with the CPU temp. This helps keep the noise levels down. Just NEVER run the PUMP to the CPU fan connector (it should be run to a case-fan socket ONLY)!

No instructions included. This was not an issue for me as I have installed liquid cooling systems before, but it would have been very confusing if I did not have that experience. I highly suggest you check YouTube for videos on installing liquid cooling systems if you're planning to get this chip and have never installed a liquid cooling system.

Other Thoughts: I've seen a few reviews here that claimed the chip had to be underclocked to run... this is typical of someone trying to put this chip into a 140w max. motherboard. You MUST get a 220w capable motherboard to run this chip, period. Make sure to do your research before buying a motherboard for this CPU. The one I used is:
Asus Crosshair V Formula Z ( )
There are others out there (I know Gigabyte and ASRock both make 220w boards), I just prefer Asus.

I also read quite a few reviews claiming that the water cooler that comes with the chip is junk. Sorry, not true. Maybe those people installed the fans improperly (this is easy to do). If one fan was facing the wrong way it wouldn't do squat for cooling. Also, you want to pull air in from outside, across the radiator, rather than push air outward from inside the case (at least for the CPU radiator, anyway).

They could also have an improper air circulation system in their case. These CPU fans can pump a LOT of air! If you have a bunch of case fans, all drawing air INTO the case (along with the CPU fans pulling air into the case), you might run into problems (not enough outlets). On my case, for example, I turned around the two front fans so they blow air out instead of draw air in. This helps make sure there is airflow passing through the case, instead of being trapped in there.

Another possibility is that they did not "paste" the cooler head properly. Use the "pea" method... it works very well.

I don't know if people have done some of the above things wrong, and that is why they are experiencing abnormally high temps... I can only say that mine is working perfectly and even under heavy load, for long periods of time, only goes to 59c.

Hope this helps.

1 out of 5 eggscooler insufficient junk

Pros: the CPU works awesome . great performance

Cons: The cooler issued with this item . Is garbage . the bolts stripped out . it also uses a push / pull gan setup . so you basically have a fan / radiator / fan setup . it's huge in length and very difficult to bolt up . very cheap quality bolts stripped out easily and fans are very loud .

4 out of 5 eggsawesome cpu

Pros: this CPU is fast and does its job well .

Cons: it runs hot .. The cooler master water cooler they send with it is junk . I prefer corsair and bought a 110 gt to cool the CPU. which works nicely . the cooler master has two fans for push and pull through the radiator .a pain to install the whole unit . also the lines are of a harder plastic that feels brittle . CPU is awesome but cooler isn't . I have RMA the cooler as the screws had stripped out and bracket cracked .

5 out of 5 eggsForget Intel

Pros: This CPU is the center-piece of my latest system, and it is a truly impressive piece of hardware. I use MakeMKV to rip my Blu-Ray videos and DVD's to my computer and then a program called Handbrake to recompress them into one quarter original size with zero visible loss in quality for Blu-Rays and little loss for DVD's. On my last system, which was an ASUS gaming laptop (Model G74S), this process took a week per Blu-Ray and about a day per DVD. The process runs in background, but I definitely saw a hit when playing games requiring high CPU usage. On this new system, with identical recompression settings, Blu-Rays take about 8 hours, and DVD's take less time to recompress than to play through. Furthermore, I can run the Dolphin Gamecube/Wii Emulator (which uses a crapload of CPU time) and Skyrim on ultra-high settings with no detectable loss of performance.

The included liquid cooling kit is a wonderful touch, but having such a high powered CPU in a full-size tower is helpful. Though certainly not silent, even with both exhaust fans installed, the noise levels are very unobtrusive even in the quiet parts of movies and music.

Cons: The 220w power requirement is proved extremely restrictive to what MB's I could use that would support that much power. I'd greatly have preferred the option of having PCI-E3 support on my MB so I could have chosen a faster SSD, but I haven't noticed any slow-down with my graphics card when playing Skyrim at the highest possible settings from both the nVidia control panel and the game's.

Other Thoughts: The rest of my new system goes like so:
Motherboard: GA-990FXA-UD5
RAM: 32GB DDR3-1866 G.Skill TridentX Series
GPU: EVGA 04G-P4-2986-KR GeForce GTX 980
DSP: Creative SoundBlasterZ
PSU: EVGA 220-P2-1000-XR (1000w)
OS: Windows 7 / Windows 10
Primary HDD: Mushkin Enhanced MKNP44SC480GB-DX

Just a reminder for the less experienced in building PC's, make sure to check the detailed specs of whatever PSU you select to make sure that the CPU power connector is actually designed for 220w lest your computer suddenly suffer a fatal accident when the computing gets tough.

Despite the limitations that arose from being so restricted in choice of motherboards, I feel greatly satisfied with this new system. Since it is designed for gaming, I found a great deal on a Samsung 42" LED HDTV, and the gaming quality is so profoundly awesome that I'd love to see this machine connected to a "4k" HDTV (Which oddly the 4k refers the the horizontal resolution whereas all previous measures have been vertical...).

4 out of 5 eggsnice but runs too hot

Pros: Very fast and great for the price. Good to get started on a liquid cooler set.

Cons: Liquid cooler is too small. The processor gets too hot and can not be cooled quick enough. Have 4 fans in the Chasse but it does no good. Have to keep the ac around 75° in my house any hotter and it freezes almost instantly.

Other Thoughts: None
