AMD A-Series APU

Get More of What You Want with an AMD A-Series APU

We changed the game for PCs by revolutionizing the APU which combines the power of a multicore CPU with AMD Radeon™ graphics all in one energy-efficient chip.
  • Unlock your system's full potential with HSA-enabled APUs
  • Experience a new level of immersion with AMD TrueAudio technology¹
  • Blaze through apps with AMD Turbo Core technology²
  • Use AMD Mantle technology³ to raise your game to unprecedented levels with hyper-efficient performance
  • Get extreme performance with Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture, featuring supercharged AMD Radeon™ R7 graphics.4

So What is HSA, Exactly?

Your APU with HSA = A Team of Specialists

AMD A-Series APU

You can think of HSA as a team with different players lending their unique talents to form one powerful unit. The CPU leads the system through everyday tasks. The GPU can zoom its way through tasks that are particularly data-intensive. Other components work together with the CPU and GPU in various, specialized processing tasks. With each member of the team performing a task that is especially suited to it, the efficiencies are designed to give you an enormous boost in performance.

AMD True-Audio Technology – What's the Difference?

Your Games Now Sound as Good as They Look¹

The expectations of gamers have never been higher. Graphics quality and processing speed have advanced rapidly, and the games of today are light years ahead of those from just a few years ago. But advancements in game audio have been more sporadic and less widely adopted. Sound is a critically important part of the immersive experience for gamers and sound engineers are eager to advance their art, but they haven't enjoyed the same kind of attention that continually drives graphics improvements. That is, until now.

AMD's Revolutionary Mantle

AMD's Mantle is a groundbreaking graphics API that promises to transform the world of game development to help bring better, faster games to the PC. Read on to discover how AMD is working with the game development community to revolutionize the PC gaming experience.

What Mantle Does

AMD A-Series APUMantle is the Harmony of Three Essential Ingredients:
  1. A driver within the AMD Catalyst™ software suite that lets applications speak directly to the Graphics Core Next architecture;
  2. A GPU or APU enabled with the Graphics Core Next architecture;
  3. An application or game written to take advantage of Mantle.

Mantle reduces the CPU's workload by giving developers a way to talk to the GPU directly with much less translation. With less work for the CPU to do, programmers can squeeze much more performance from a system, delivering the greatest benefits in gaming systems where the CPU can be the bottleneck.

What it Means for Gamers

Now that Mantle has freed up some extra CPU capacity, we expect Mantle will lead to better games, and more of them, since Mantle makes game development easier. That's not all Mantle will do for gamers. By shifting work to the GPU, a mid-range or older CPU isn't the same handicap it was before. With Mantle, the GPU becomes the critical part of the system, and GPU upgrades will have a bigger impact than before.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for the Dollar

Pros: The APU, is pretty good as in graphics and CPU on-board all in one.

Cons: Nothing impressive, but i think its perfect for a wallet saver.

Other Thoughts: I would say its great to go over to your gamer friends house to game out and have fun, of course installing APU's into micro-boards to best match consumer uses.

4 out of 5 eggsdecent

Pros: It is a pretty decent little apu, great if you just need a budget pc with onboard graphics. Also works pretty well if you're running a separate gpu. For the price it will serve you well, though if you're willing to spend just a little more you can get a fx 8350 or anything along those lines. I own both the fx 8350 and the 7850k, and I have to say that this is a great deal and all, but if you want multitasking power definitely go with an fx8350.

Cons: Runs pretty hot compared to a standard CPU, but seeing this is an apu I can't complain. temps when idle for me while running a corsair h105 were around 30c I run my 8350 idle at around 18c so definitely a major difference. the stock cooler is pretty bad so I'd suggest investing there. you can get away with the standard, but I do not recommend doing so (mostly goes without saying these days).

Other Thoughts: nothing terrible, nothing spectacular. I got away with playing Tom Clancy's The Division on ultra with this apu and a gtx 960 avg frame rate was around 35-40, with dips down into the 25 range when near smoking vehicles, other than that it worked. hope this helped some people on deciding what to do for a budget build.

5 out of 5 eggsRuns FAST, Cool, and VERY Quiet!

Pros: The fan is the right size, she dropped right into the socket, my PC now runs VERY FAST and VERY cool. Matched up with an ASUS A88X-PRO MB and EVERYTHING works with no hitches or glitches.

Cons: AS Always I can NOT find any fault with an AMD Chip!

Other Thoughts: The video on the MB runs great with the processor. She is running about 98° F steady, no matter how much load I put on the processor. The fans are all running quiet, very little excess heat (as compared to the FX 8350 that ran at a steady 78° C).

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent CPU / APU

Pros: -affordable
-built in GPU ( R7 250 ) plays every game out there on med to high settings
-Make sure you get AMD ram to go with it and set your ram up to 2400
- Dual graphics with a R7 250 adds more fps

Cons: if your trying to decided between this one and the godeveri get this one because there really is no difference in performance

Other Thoughts: - I have this cpu paired with a r7 250 in dual graphics mode and I am very happy with this apu. If you are looking for a very affordable CPU that will allow you to play any game on the market with out having to buy a graphics card this chip gives you outstanding performance and value for your money. Buying this cpu will save you money because you dont need to buy a graphics card. I do recommend pairing the cpu with amd gaming ram however.

5 out of 5 eggsI love it. But......

Pros: This is a great processor. I had it running dual graphics with and R7 250 but that wasn't the performance I was looking for. I've since paired it with and R9 380 and that really hits the spot. Not a super powerful card, but this processor handles it with ease. I have a Corsair H100i and temps under load are in the mid 40s. I had it overclocked to 4.8Ghz but i think i was running into some thermal issues, maybe with the motherboard(crossblade ranger) but I'm not sure. Doesn't matter. At stock speeds it is enough. This is in an HTPC build but I do some gaming as well. Dragon Age Inquisition at high presets works well.

If you are buying this for and HTPC rig, you can't do better. The same for a budget gaming rig. For more serious gaming, I'd probably consider and Athlon X4 860 and an R9 380 or something like that and bypass the possibility of dual graphics.

Cons: I've experienced none. It would probably run pretty hot on a stock cooler.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Chip

Pros: On Chip RAM controllers for all speeds, on chip GPU for those that need it. Quiet and power efficient. Solid Performer. I can run up to 5 VM's concurrently with no slowdowns or issues in a non-server environment.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I would purchase this again. If you can't afford an FX system, but want to play modern games, and do other multi-threading, this chip can handle it.

4 out of 5 eggsOverall good processor

Pros: -Easily overclockable
-Doesn't bottleneck any of my other hardware, primarily my gtx 980Ti.

Cons: -For being one of AMD's more recently released cpu's it would of been nice for it to come with the improved stock heatsink, like the fx8350 so I wouldn't of had to immediately go out and buy an aftermarket one.

Other Thoughts: For some reason all of my cpu information tools show that this is only a 2 core processor with 4 threads. Not sure if its a glitch in those tools or if there is an issue with my cpu.
