AMD A-Series APU

Get More of What You Want with an AMD A-Series APU

We changed the game for PCs by revolutionizing the APU which combines the power of a multicore CPU with AMD Radeon™ graphics all in one energy-efficient chip.
  • Unlock your system's full potential with HSA-enabled APUs
  • Experience a new level of immersion with AMD TrueAudio technology¹
  • Blaze through apps with AMD Turbo Core technology²
  • Use AMD Mantle technology³ to raise your game to unprecedented levels with hyper-efficient performance
  • Get extreme performance with Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture, featuring supercharged AMD Radeon™ R7 graphics.4

So What is HSA, Exactly?

Your APU with HSA = A Team of Specialists

AMD A-Series APU

You can think of HSA as a team with different players lending their unique talents to form one powerful unit. The CPU leads the system through everyday tasks. The GPU can zoom its way through tasks that are particularly data-intensive. Other components work together with the CPU and GPU in various, specialized processing tasks. With each member of the team performing a task that is especially suited to it, the efficiencies are designed to give you an enormous boost in performance.

AMD True-Audio Technology – What's the Difference?

Your Games Now Sound as Good as They Look¹

The expectations of gamers have never been higher. Graphics quality and processing speed have advanced rapidly, and the games of today are light years ahead of those from just a few years ago. But advancements in game audio have been more sporadic and less widely adopted. Sound is a critically important part of the immersive experience for gamers and sound engineers are eager to advance their art, but they haven't enjoyed the same kind of attention that continually drives graphics improvements. That is, until now.

AMD's Revolutionary Mantle

AMD's Mantle is a groundbreaking graphics API that promises to transform the world of game development to help bring better, faster games to the PC. Read on to discover how AMD is working with the game development community to revolutionize the PC gaming experience.

What Mantle Does

AMD A-Series APUMantle is the Harmony of Three Essential Ingredients:
  1. A driver within the AMD Catalyst™ software suite that lets applications speak directly to the Graphics Core Next architecture;
  2. A GPU or APU enabled with the Graphics Core Next architecture;
  3. An application or game written to take advantage of Mantle.

Mantle reduces the CPU's workload by giving developers a way to talk to the GPU directly with much less translation. With less work for the CPU to do, programmers can squeeze much more performance from a system, delivering the greatest benefits in gaming systems where the CPU can be the bottleneck.

What it Means for Gamers

Now that Mantle has freed up some extra CPU capacity, we expect Mantle will lead to better games, and more of them, since Mantle makes game development easier. That's not all Mantle will do for gamers. By shifting work to the GPU, a mid-range or older CPU isn't the same handicap it was before. With Mantle, the GPU becomes the critical part of the system, and GPU upgrades will have a bigger impact than before.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat chip for HTPC or business 'puter

Pros: Processing power comparable to an Intel Core i5-4440 Haswell Quad-Core 3.1GHz...except the AMD R7 on-chip graphics are MUCH more powerful than the Hazwell...

Cons: The way the caching is set up- it's more like (2) dual core processors with (slightly better than) outboard R7 graphics cards.

Other Thoughts: Windows 7/64 WEI score (With G.Skill Sniper 2133 memory)
Processor: 7.4
Memory: 7.4
Graphics: 6.9
Gaming Graphics: 6.9

5 out of 5 eggsWhy an APU?

Pros: This APU was for my personal build. I selected it so I could have my computer up and running and playing games from day one without a GPU. It worked great for all but the most demanding games. A few months later I purchased an AMD Radeon R9 280! Just after I got my GPU the newest AMD Mantle improved my frame rates across the board. I am one very happy customer.

Cons: Nothing comes to mind. Sorry.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat All Around Performer !!

Pros: The "AMD A10 7850K" is a very well rounded APU.. In it's class it is second to none with its built in graphics and quad core architecture. If you play games, watch movies, process large raw files for photography.. this will handle it !! Just pair this APU with 1866 or higher speed ram and this baby will really take off!

Cons: No Cons

4 out of 5 eggsA10-7850K - Perfect for the Budget Gamerr

Pros: The Quad CPU cores make it plenty quick for everyday tasks and it does a good job with loading games quickly. The built in GPU is actually really good for your casual gaming. For those who want more you can easily upgrade the to a discreet video card and have a very decent gaming machine.

Cons: The only reason I did not give this processor 5 stars is due to its lack in power when doing encoding and other intensive tasks. The CMT scaling just does not do as well as SMT scaling when it comes to these tasks.

Other Thoughts: Overall this is a great processor that will get the job done, and done well, without breaking the bank!

5 out of 5 eggscheap price, great return

Pros: Great value
Great speed when working with applications such as PhotoShop
Great boost to gaming
Great multitasking

Cons: None that I can think of of other than the fact that the cores are logically split not physical cpu-z only reads 2 physical cores but that may be a glich.

Other Thoughts: I had preorder this processor with high hopes and when it came I wasn't let down in the least bit, partnered with my sapphire boost 7950 3gb card I can play most games in HD and get up into the hundreds of frames from everything to metro last light all the way down the spectrum to guild wars 2. It enables my build to handle games extremely smoothly so I'm not caught "lagging" I can't wait for the new line of processors to come out so I can continue to smash my brothers Intel rig into the ground in both performance and stability even though mines over locked to 4.3ghz.

5 out of 5 eggsLove all my AMD Systems

Pros: I have build over a dozen systems from scratch starting with an Intel 80386-20 which I ran at 25 MHz. (Yeah, I'll join over-clocker's anonymous when someone starts the organization.) My last two Intel systems were flops. And the last one used an Intel motherboard. Since then I have stuck with AMD (not as adventurous anymore). Not a single disappointment in the last 10 AMD systems. The last 7 AMD systems are still top notch systems keeping everyone happy. (Three at home and four at work.) All my games are fabulous on this A10 powered system.

Cons: none yet... well the chip is not free
