AMD A-Series APU

Get More of What You Want with an AMD A-Series APU

We changed the game for PCs by revolutionizing the APU which combines the power of a multicore CPU with AMD Radeon™ graphics all in one energy-efficient chip.
  • Unlock your system's full potential with HSA-enabled APUs
  • Experience a new level of immersion with AMD TrueAudio technology¹
  • Blaze through apps with AMD Turbo Core technology²
  • Use AMD Mantle technology³ to raise your game to unprecedented levels with hyper-efficient performance
  • Get extreme performance with Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture, featuring supercharged AMD Radeon™ R7 graphics.4

So What is HSA, Exactly?

Your APU with HSA = A Team of Specialists

AMD A-Series APU

You can think of HSA as a team with different players lending their unique talents to form one powerful unit. The CPU leads the system through everyday tasks. The GPU can zoom its way through tasks that are particularly data-intensive. Other components work together with the CPU and GPU in various, specialized processing tasks. With each member of the team performing a task that is especially suited to it, the efficiencies are designed to give you an enormous boost in performance.

AMD True-Audio Technology – What's the Difference?

Your Games Now Sound as Good as They Look¹

The expectations of gamers have never been higher. Graphics quality and processing speed have advanced rapidly, and the games of today are light years ahead of those from just a few years ago. But advancements in game audio have been more sporadic and less widely adopted. Sound is a critically important part of the immersive experience for gamers and sound engineers are eager to advance their art, but they haven't enjoyed the same kind of attention that continually drives graphics improvements. That is, until now.

AMD's Revolutionary Mantle

AMD's Mantle is a groundbreaking graphics API that promises to transform the world of game development to help bring better, faster games to the PC. Read on to discover how AMD is working with the game development community to revolutionize the PC gaming experience.

What Mantle Does

AMD A-Series APUMantle is the Harmony of Three Essential Ingredients:
  1. A driver within the AMD Catalyst™ software suite that lets applications speak directly to the Graphics Core Next architecture;
  2. A GPU or APU enabled with the Graphics Core Next architecture;
  3. An application or game written to take advantage of Mantle.

Mantle reduces the CPU's workload by giving developers a way to talk to the GPU directly with much less translation. With less work for the CPU to do, programmers can squeeze much more performance from a system, delivering the greatest benefits in gaming systems where the CPU can be the bottleneck.

What it Means for Gamers

Now that Mantle has freed up some extra CPU capacity, we expect Mantle will lead to better games, and more of them, since Mantle makes game development easier. That's not all Mantle will do for gamers. By shifting work to the GPU, a mid-range or older CPU isn't the same handicap it was before. With Mantle, the GPU becomes the critical part of the system, and GPU upgrades will have a bigger impact than before.

4 out of 5 eggsOverall good processor

Pros: -Easily overclockable
-Doesn't bottleneck any of my other hardware, primarily my gtx 980Ti.

Cons: -For being one of AMD's more recently released cpu's it would of been nice for it to come with the improved stock heatsink, like the fx8350 so I wouldn't of had to immediately go out and buy an aftermarket one.

Other Thoughts: For some reason all of my cpu information tools show that this is only a 2 core processor with 4 threads. Not sure if its a glitch in those tools or if there is an issue with my cpu.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great for my purpose

Pros: I built a gaming/HTPC for the living room with this APU, and it did not disappoint. It replaced an X-Box 360 with the red ring of death, and I can now run Skyrim at max settings in most cases. (Rooms with fog cause it to be a bit jittery, but I can back the settings down a hair to deal with it.)

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsPhenominal Processor

Pros: This processor is one beast. Great that it has GPUs built in. Plays most games like Dragon Age and the Witcher 2 at very high settings. Great to choose for a well budgeted gaming system

Cons: Nothing really. Had zero issues

Other Thoughts: Pick a good Gigabyte or top name brand motherboard. Don't skimp and get a cheap one. You want something reasonable for this processor

4 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU bad shipping

Pros: Great for games like Counter strike and Garrys mod. Can run games like Skyrim and dayz but with settings on medium. very fast for the price and has good amount of cores for modern gaming.

Absolute bang for buck!!!

Cons: When it came in the mail 2 pins were slightly bent and had to bend back.

the fan is absolutely terrible and should be thrown out if possible.

The only bad thing about the APU is the shipping that gets it to your house.

Other Thoughts: Good for budget builds and many other things to do with computers. would recommend to any new or advanced gamer.

Pros: It is good for games & normal every day stuff. Its no 9590 but for the cost its quite good & durable.

Cons: None for the cost & how good it works.

Other Thoughts: This is the second one I have bought for a build & I don't regret it.

Pros: I have built a few PC' s now with this APU and have not had any complaints whatsoever. I usually pick them up when they are on sale and they are a great product for the price. Streams media with ease up to 4k and plays most up to date games on 1080p and 720p settings. I would not recommend using just the APU for high end gaming because you really need a dedicated GPU for that task but overall for what you are getting with this chip its simply great. For my last build I paired it with a R9 380x and that system screams. Runs very cool too. Paired with a Corsair H60 at full load, temp doesn't go above 45C. Also, multitasks very well. I can have multiple programs running while gaming and there is no lag. There is absolutely NO bottleneck, screen stuttering or dropped framerates with graphics card. Overclocks fairly well too. I have this one at 4.38 ghz. I disabled the integrated graphics when I added the R9 380x.

Cons: I wish they made a 8 core version with R9 integrated graphics.

Other Thoughts: I definitely recommend this product for the budget gamer, or for people looking for a cheap, easy solution for streaming media. For those of you out there that think you can Xfire this chip with any of the newer cards, don't bother. This APU is only compatible with the R7 250 or below, which doesn't give you much of a performance upgrade anyway. With today's games, I would recommend using the R9 380 or above.

System Specs:
ASUS A88X Pro Mobo
16 GB 2400 DDR3 G.Skill Ram
Corsair H60 AIO Cooler
XFX Radeon R9 380X
Rosewill Hive 550M PSU
Seagate 1TB SSHD
Apevia Sniper 2 Chassis
Windows 10 Pro

4 out of 5 eggsAMD A10 7850K (Great Starter)

Pros: It can play games, quite well if your set up is right (Need pretty quick RAM I recommend 2133mhz+ and get about 8GBs of it if on Windows 7 and around 4-6 GBs if on Windows 10 and good motherboard <Asrock FM2+ A88x Fatal1ty is good option>) can play any game on the market, say around 60 FPS on default for older titles and around 30 FPS on default with newer titles (on par with consoles). It is great place to start and for an upgrading opportunist (Those who plan for discrete graphics as upgrade <R9 390 is a great choice than go get yourself a new CPU and Motherboard after> ) and overclocks like a champ (Running stable at 4.7Ghz) consumes little power.

Cons: Runs hot, CPU is not great (Overclocking makes a pretty nice difference if you are buying aftermarket cooler),

Other Thoughts: I recommend getting the newest APU out if planning on going APU, will over better experience and is not that much higher in price (Depending on when you read this), but if locked in this price point I'd say this can't be beat.
