4 out of 5 eggsuseability and power consumption of Kabini 5350

Pros: The computer is actually ok for speed until you load in a antivirus program. But there is no way around running one of those on windows.

It will play any HD movie without a hiccup

And running regular programs works ok.

Cons: The Kabini 5350 is a little slow for normal desktop use. Mostly it is the browser that gets annoying. Even a tweaked Firefox browser is slow/lags. Just bringing up Google and typing in the search box there is a lag on seeing your text.

Other Thoughts: Setup.
Gigabyte motherboard
One hard drive, 7200 RPM.
One DVD player.
250W power supply
4 Gigs ram 1.5v CL9 1600mhz
Win7 64 Bit

Power usage
20W idle
YouTube HD videos 24W
Prime95 39-41W

1 out of 5 eggsUnknown Problems

Pros: -Fast delivery
-Safe Packaging

Cons: None, great bundle, my issue lies elsewhere.

Other Thoughts: I'm at a loss with the items in the bundle. I have yet to get this machine to work. I RMA'd the Motherboard thinking it was Dead on Arrival. My computer will not make it to post when powering on. I get no beeps at all when attempting to power on, but my fans/CPU/Hard-drive will all start up. Same with a light that is built into my case. After getting the Motherboard RMA'd I got another PSU thinking that it could be another cause, but that changed nothing. So at this point I have several hundred dollars invested in a computer that has never once worked. I'm needing help with this issue.

5 out of 5 eggsAnother htpc

Pros: Low power quad core

Cons: None that I didn't know of.

Other Thoughts: Using this with an Asrock AM1b with 2 x 4gb G Skill Ares 1600 9-9-9-28 memory 1Tb HGST 2.5 7200 hdd 150 watt pico psu uses about 28 watts watching tv with an HDhomerun Prime tv tuner. That's about 4 more watts than my Biostar 1037u with 4gb memory and a WD 1Tb black the Biostar would use less power with HGST but not much. I'm happy with both of them.

5 out of 5 eggsfanless pico system, works incredibly well as a 4k desktop computer

Pros: I'm using this processor in a fanless, pico power supply, ssd computer driving a 4k monitor at 3840 x 2160 with the integrated graphics. It's 100% silent. I've never had a quiet desktop computer like this.

I'm using a 160w PICO atx plug paired with a 12v 5a power supply brick. Under load with Intel burn test the system uses 45w. At idle it uses 14w.

The system is used for web development and a couple of virtual machines (VirtualBox) when needed . It's adequate for streaming a 1280x1024 twitch window while developing. Youtube runs fine, but not in full screen on my 4k monitor. It's very powerful and suprisingly so. When testing with a 1080 monitor is was dare I say fast. Videos played full screen, youtube, streaming was perfect. As a non gaming system it's great.

A note about the heatsink, I jury rigged a passive cooler. I had a small dynatron 2u heatsink with 2 heatpipes and the fins running horizontally cooled with a 70mm fan. I pulled the fins off and instead rearranged them in a multi-petal flower pattern to dissipate the heat. The fins were also bent to increase the distance between them. This was then epoxied (artic silver thermal epoxy) to a stock amd aluminum heatsink block that happened to fit the AMI mounting points. The heatsink block was held in place with 2 long thin fan screws (used to hold the 70mm fan on the heatsink) just tight enough to hold the heatsink flat without warping the motherboard.

I also used a $30 Deep Cool Tesseract case with vent holes on the top (removed the screen for better flow).

End result, idle temp at 23 deg C. Load during Intel burn test (linpack) 49-50 deg C running for an hour. Typically runs at 30-40 degs @ 60-70% load. Ambient 22 deg.

Super cheap, super cool, fast enough. Don't buy a discrete video card as that defeats the whole purpose of this.

System:
AMD 5350 quad
MSI AM1M
2 x GSKILL 1866 8GB running 8-8-8-24 1600 Mhz
256gb Sandisk Ultra SSD
Deep Cool Tesseract white case (any case with vents on top will work).
160 ATX plug pico + 60w 12v supply brick (no fans)

Cons: Wish it was little more powerful.
Coming out of sleep sometimes windows are resized at least for 4k tvs. Still working on fixes, there is a registry fix that seems to work. Look it up.

Other Thoughts: It'll be awesome when Beema comes to AM1. Otherwise, if this ever goes on sale in a combo deal, pounce on it.

Cab;t even tell the computer is on without the LEDs which I disconnected because they are stupid bright. Silent computing is a whole nother realm. Love it.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing cheap proccessor

Pros: This APU has OK integrated graphics, but if you run it with something like the r7 260x you have a gaming machine
It is a quad core
only 50 dollars
can be overclocked highly to around 2.5 GHz but fans are needed
i3 4160 w/ GPU and the 5350 w/ GPU are same speed

Cons: Get what you pay for, so less power in the quad core
decent on-board graphics but I recommend using extra ram if you are not running a GPU
Weird installation method

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this as a budget processor

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU

Pros: I have two of these, one running plex server on Debian and one with Win8.1 as an HTPC. This thing performs very well for both, never had any performance complaints. It uses barely any power, so its cheap and runs cool and quiet. I'd buy more if I had a use for them.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for HTPC

Pros: Quad core with GPU at 25W and at a good price.
Works great for my purpose. Runs Linux Mint 64 bit with no problems.

Cons: pushpin fan mounting

Other Thoughts: I bought this cpu to build a Kodi streamer for my home entertainment
system. ASRock AM1H-ITX, SanDisk 128GB SSD & G.SKILL Ares Series 4GB DDR3 1600 in an Antec ISK 300-150 itx case with Liunx Mint 17.1 installed.
