5 out of 5 eggsGreat Virtual Server, NAS, or just upgrade CPU

Pros: - Awesome upgrade option for those running older AM3+ CPUs, may be one of the last upgrades for the line.

- 8 Logical cores (4 Physical - 2 Logical Per) Modules, cores, whatever. ;)

- Very good power usage.

- Good price, but they could drop it to $125 easily.

- 1000pt CPU Mark increase over FX 6300.

- Great CPU for low cost virtual server (see Other thoughts)

Cons: If you know why you are buying this CPU there are no cons.
Great CPU and the price is decent.

Other Thoughts: I upgraded my low cost testing virtual server from a FX 6300 to this CPU and couldn't be happier. I bought the FX 6300 for $119 about a year after it came out, so this was a bit more, but it also just came out.

If you are using an older AM3 or AM3+ CPU, upgrading to this may keep you from shelling out tons of cash for quite awhile on a whole new system.

*** Pairing this with a motherboard with the 760G chipset (i.e ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS) you get a killer and cost effective virtual server or NAS set up. The biggest reason being that this setup supports ECC RAM, has a slot for a RAID controller and still room for extra NIC cards.

5 out of 5 eggsThis Thing Is A Beast

Pros: This processor is a beast! I'm using this processor in my gaming/video editing/streaming rig and it handles everything I throw at it. Not sure how it does at stock clock speed as mine is overclocked to 4.0GHz but this processor runs cool (with a Corsair Hydro Series H60) and is super fast. Most games can't use more than 6 cores, so this beast is great if you need extra cores working while you game. (eg. streaming to twitch)

Cons: None so far. This is a great AMD processor.

5 out of 5 eggsgood processor for the money

Pros: * low power offering compared to the 125w and higher vishera line

* unlocked black edition

* lots of older am3+ motherboards and micro-ATX motherboards are available for this processor for < $100

* great for running a home-based server or lots of VMs

Cons: * the heatsink that comes with this processor is basically useless. i would rather spend $20 less for a processor-in-a-box version

* no 65w HE variant

Other Thoughts: this is a good replacement for anyone who has/had the 65w opteron 32xx or 33xx processors. i bought this to replace a dead opteron 3280. AMD actually replaced my 3280 under warranty, but i like the FX8320 enough, and the incremental performance boost, that i'll stick with it.

4 out of 5 eggsOverall not that impressed but just OK

Pros: 95 watt, faster GHz than my previous one, price was right with the coupon code

Cons: In real world speed, it's not much faster than my real 6 core 1045T. Yes it's 8 cores but it's really 4 cores with what AMD calls modules it's really a clone of Intel's Hyperthreading so not really 8 true cores. It's about 5 seconds faster in boot time on my intel SSD which really isn't worth it.

Other Thoughts: I'm still getting the same FPS in all my games that I had when I was using my 1045T. In real world performance I see very little to no change going from the 6 core to this 8 core. Am I happy with it, I guess so, but I guess I was expecting a little more noticeable difference and for what I do, I don't see it. I don't care about benchmark numbers or anything like that nor do I care that Intel is faster, at almost twice the price why go with it... as long as it does what I want it to do then that's fine with me, anything more than that and you're just showing off. No one besides professional gamers or video editing would need more than 4-6 real cores anyway. So am I happy with it, I'm on the fence but I'll deal with it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU

Pros: 8 cores at 95W.
No need to replace motherboard
with my GPU plays all the games i've thrown at it at ultra-high.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Listen to everyone who talks about the intel processors if you want. For a good price I now have a rock solid CPU. I really don't care about a few seconds zipping files or FPS vs intel.

5 out of 5 eggsBang for the Buck

Pros: Fast, Reliable, Good Price

Cons: The only con I will add is that it clocks at 3.2gh but not enough to drop it an egg.

4 out of 5 eggsThe Good Stuff

Pros: Btw got it from different store not newegg, wont mention it, so this comment gets published :)

Very good CPU, was waiting patiently for it, i am guy who had an a8-3850
and then x4-750K , and then this.

And i have also alot experience with intel latest i3 and i5, dont see alot of i7, cause me and my friends always scout for budget offering, and man this thing is amazing.

I know its not major overhaul, its an improved Pilediver, but better power efficiency, were talking about CPU max load consumes 130W-150W which is gr8 , i have it paired with MSI 970 Gaming and bam man very good stuff.

Multithreaded apps, will reach you high end spectrum, so you need to scout and change your take on things, and use stuff like Waterfox, chrome 64bit, 7zip, cause Single threaded performance remains relatively weak compared to latest intel, and due to you purchasing this cause your on budget i doubt you will pair it with SSD, so yh you need to search for apps that can use it.

I know this will sound lame, but using this baby as entry workstation machine for multi-media like Adobe CS5, cause its amazing there, those threads truly help, any other app that is aint multi it behaves like my old 750K, but since i am power user and i play with many things including virtual box, those extra threads are YUMMY.

Cons: Single threaded remains weak compared to latest Intel

Other Thoughts: non i like
