  • newegg Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad-core Processor With four processing cores, the multitasking monster Quad-Core Intel Core 2 Extreme processor delivers twice the performance on highly-threaded applications, taking your desktop PC experience into a completely new realm of mega power. The powerful processor delivers serious performance on the ultra-demanding games of today and tomorrow.
  • newegg Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (Intel EM64T) Intel EM64T provides an enhancement to Intel 32-bit architecture by enabling the desktop processor platform to access larger amounts of memory. With appropriate 64-bit supporting hardware and software, platforms based on an Intel processor supporting Intel EM64T can enable use of extended virtual and physical memory.
  • newegg Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) EIST allows the system to dynamically adjust processor voltage and core frequency to decrease average power consumption and average heat production. Combined with existing power saving features, EIST may provide an excellent balance between providing power when you need it and conserving power when you don't.
  • newegg Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas in memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.

5 out of 5 eggsPurchased 09/18/2007 Still runs like a champ!

Pros: -4 Cores
-Very Fast
-Very Reliable

Cons: -Stock fan is really loud, I mean REALLY LOUD. But that is only under load and you get used to it after a while.

Other Thoughts: I used the QX6700 from 09/18/2007-02/07/2013 without any problems. I overclocked it once with the stock fan to about 3.2GHz if I remember correctly and it was stable however the stock fan was running at max RPMs at all times which was just too loud so I set it back to 2.66GHz.

I built a new rig last Thursday so I no longer use the QX6700 but I still have it and it still works.

5 out of 5 eggsA MUST BY IF GOT THE CASH

Pros: running this qx6700 with 4gb kingston ram, evga 9800gx2, 150gb raptor 10000rpm drive, i got 15000 in 3d mark 06 at stock clocks, i havent overclocked i tried on my asus p5n-e sli board but it can only reach about 2.8ghz and 848mhz ram speed before it becomes unstable, i know someone who has this on air cooling and been funning at 3.85ghz with zalman cooler for months, its blazing fast..this is fast enough i dont even need to over clock i play every game maxed out..except crysis everythings on high with no aa but af at x4 is playable source is outstandingly fast, i couldnt be happier with any other processor.

Cons: if u dont have a top of the line motherboard..your gonna wish you did with this chip.

Other Thoughts: this chip is nothing less than BEAST!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: all the extreme processors are very much alike with OC and this is the cheapest of them.

Cons: The resale value for this processor if your a die hard nut that needs to stay on top of current technology as soon as something new comes out is terrible you can buy it today never open it and try and resell it and get if your lucky 1/4 of the price:(

Other Thoughts: I have this processor and OC to 3.6ghz with a zalman 9700. its more than enough performance you dont need anymore unless of course your that nut that needs the most current techlogy and has way too much money to throw in that never ending money pit everytime something new comes out!

5 out of 5 eggsIt's The Best. . . Any Other Questions

Pros: It's one of Intel's best processors. I can't get this thing to slow down. Multitasking, Gaming, CD burning, Playing Video or encoding.....Do 'em one at a time or ALL AT ONCE. It doesn't matter to this monster.

Cons: Price. I've paid less for good vehicles than I did for this puppie!

Other Thoughts: Just buy it! Don't even think about the price. It's like a shot @ the Dr. It hurts at first but the pain goes away and you feel better about it! Sell the car, the house, a kid, or all of em', just get this thing. You won't regret it.

5 out of 5 eggsRequires goggles and driving gloves when in use.

Pros: Ridiculously fast, Easy and stable overclocks, future proofed ( until Octo-core comes out). Handles pretty much everything you throw at it without breaking a sweat. Temperature barely shifts above normal when overclocked to 3.20 ghz and paired with a high quality heat sink and Arctic Silver.

Cons: Runs a little hot, but what do you expect from 2 dual core CPU'S in one package? Most applications outside gaming and Video/Graphic design/3D imaging have yet to take full advantage of 2 cores let alone 4 cores.

Other Thoughts: Any Gamer or video editor/graphic design etc. nerd NEEDS one of these, reduced my render times by 25%. Got 60-65 fps when running oblivion at maxed ( And heavily modded for higher resolution textures and Nerd candy) settings and Paired with an 8800GTX.

5 out of 5 eggsNice CPU

Pros: VERYYY FAST IS ALL I HAVE TO SAY AND ITS A GOOD OVERCLOCKER.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: I have nothing against intel THey are a very awesome company but i am an amd fan boy.. Needless to say i dont' own this cpu... I own a Athlon 64 FX-74 (stock) And this cpu is almost as good in 3dmark06 scores.. just trails about 329 points behind. Thing is this is extremely expensive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! $900 Bucks for this beast.. And i got my cpu for only $159, its somewhat equal the performance when it comes to gaming... *looked at MANY benchmarks* But Intel is a very awesome company i have nothing against them. They rock, so does amd. If u have the money for this go ahead and buy it. But u can get the cpu i have (Athlon 64 FX-72) for about $800 less.

5 out of 5 eggsStunning Performance

Pros: Its amazing. I do a bunch of CAM/CAD and the programs run slow on even the new core 2 duos. They are up and running before I expect it and the analyzing time has dropped substantially. I almost want to take it to work sometimes to get the models done that much faster.

Cons: None really

Other Thoughts: My comps on for at least 10 hours a time and even under full load it doesn't get much hotter than 52C under stock cooling. I can't wait to overclock this bad boy for gaming.
A buddy worked for Intel so I got it for a little under 500 XD

5 out of 5 eggsawesome totally overall

Pros: I have had this processor for almost a year.. it is very smooth and reliable even when overclocked.. I use it to heat my room so have a REAL good cooler on it.. but it will run smooth even at 75c but i dont recommend it

Cons: just get a good cooler and be mindful of what memory you use with this chip

Other Thoughts: I had to slow the multiplier down so the bots in Unreal tournament would not kick my but. This Chip is That GOOD!

5 out of 5 eggsLudacris speed

Pros: Very impressioned and please by its performance. 4 processors in one chip, you can't go wrong especially with the extreme series.

Cons: high end price tag, but it is a high end product. Paid 999 back in July, now its cheaper with the non extreme series quad running for about 500.

Other Thoughts: If you want 4 processors in 1 go with the non extreme series and pay between 300 to 500 instead.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Simply you will not use all of it's power. Easiest overclock ( with asus striker) I have ever had. 2.6 to 3.2 with out even a BSOD, and on the first try.

Cons: The heatsink it came with would not dissipate the heat enough, 55 cel usually. With a QX its best to have liquid cooling.

Other Thoughts: Get the striker with it, many mobos do not support quads yet.
