  • newegg Supports Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) With Intel VT, one hardware platform functions as multiple "virtual" platforms. For business, Intel VT offers improved manageability, limiting downtime and maintaining worker productivity by isolating computing activities into separate partitions. In the home, Intel VT allows creating unique user environments for multiple family members using the same platform simultaneously.
  • newegg Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) EIST allows the system to dynamically adjust processor voltage and core frequency to decrease average power consumption and average heat production. Combined with existing power saving features, EIST may provide an excellent balance between providing power when you need it and conserving power when you don’t.
  • newegg Scalability and Performance with Intel EM64T Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (Intel EM64T) can improve performance by allowing the system to address more than 4 GB of both virtual and physical memory. Intel EM64T also provides support for 64 bit computing to help handle the applications of tomorrow.
  • newegg Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas in memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.

5 out of 5 eggsworks great

Pros: decent processing power for it's time
keeps cool during heavy load

Cons: fan retainer can be flimsy

Other Thoughts: have had and still have this cpu after 6 years of use. it still runs great and never had an issue with it. temps have always been at good levels even during heavy loads. one of the fan retainers cracked and it doesnt sit on the cpu very well causing heating issues

5 out of 5 eggsDefinately a trooper after 6 years

Pros: reliability, durability, bought this CPU as part of a gateway desktop package back in 2007-08, original specs then: 500gig sata 3gb transfer, 3gig ddr2 memory, 8500gt, 350power supply.
Since then i have i upgraded some components multiple times(mainly video card) but have always kept the original motherboard and CPU setup, and they h ave never let me down once.
Current setup: Original motherboard /CPU, 1 terabyte sata 6gb, 6 gigs memory ddr2, 560ti gtx, 650w power supply, led 42inch monitor 1080p
Runs like a champ, eats games like a champ.

Cons: bottleneck issues starting to occur( performance/efficiency ratio), motherboard only supports 3gb hard drive transfer rates, instead of 6gb), still a strong contender, issues are not noticeable on my end as much as they are apparent on a tech spec sheet

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU still to this day

Pros: Great little cpu here. Bought a computer in 2007 and had this chip in it, at the time it was pretty decent. Now I can still run any game with it and my graphics card isn't even that good (9600 gt) Still multitasks as the same as when I got this. I didn't clean out the heatsink for 5 years until just a week ago, and it was covered in dust behind the fan, and still never overheated.

Cons: Can't think of any.

Other Thoughts: Not sure how easy it is to get this anymore but if you have a chance and it's cheap it's not a bad chip!

5 out of 5 eggsStill Awesome after 6 year

Pros: Overclocked well as it did downclock very well. still had solid performance even from a discontinued socket set(775)
resident evil 5 played very arcade like. most games ran amazing. everyday computing as well as majot multi tasking didnt phase this system!. Video editing and photo shop was Uber Fast!!!

Cons: I was hoping that intel would re release these but in small lithography or an alternative for price with new sockets compatibility. or i am so far behind that they already did with the i series chipsets!

4 out of 5 eggsStill going strong

Pros: It is still running with almost daily use. I still play demanding games (starcraft 2, diablo 3, crysis 2.) The only thing I can tell is that it bottle necks my gpu (GTX 560 TI.) If I can be happy with a cpu thats 5 years old, you know intel is doing something right.

Cons: At the time the cpu was a good high end medium gaming cpu. Now that my whole computer is aging I bought a new GPU in July 2011, and have come to realize that the cpu is a little dated for the gpu. That is its only flaw.

5 out of 5 eggsYes, its 2013

Pros: I think I bought this around July 2007 if the Wiki is correct about the price at that time. If you benchmark it on Anandtech compared to any of the current CPUs it actually wins in a few categories, and keeps up well in others.

The PC running this CPU has since been "downgraded" to my wife's computer for about 2 years now, though I still have games loaded on it and occasionally use it for that purpose.

I hope my current CPU lasts as long.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsmore and more praise

Pros: Im just adding to this already full list of 5 stars. I too bought this in 07 and havent looked back. I always think of upgrading just 'because' but I cant justify it since this processor has rocked it and is still rocking it. Getting great game performance as well as audio/video software running smoothly. After effects, photoshop, you name it this processor still handles it.

Cons: yeaaaaaaah....con this.

5 out of 5 eggsSweet CPU

Pros: Great overclocker, still great performance for its age.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I've had mine for a couple of years, bought elsewhere though. I just thought I'd leave a review here. I have mine overclocked to 3.2ghz with 1600mhz FSB with DDR2 RAM @ 1066mhz. All of that with a GTX 460 makes an older, yet strong gaming machine! I would push it to 3.6ghz but this CPU is air-cooled in my machine and I don't want to risk burning up such a good CPU.

5 out of 5 eggsStill Chugging Along

Pros: Bought this little beaut' back in late 2007 and never looked back. Literally. I'm still using this proc in my gaming rig and getting absolutely wonderful results. Overclocked it to 3.012 GHz a few years ago and still running rock solid (having a massive CPU cooler may have helped significantly though). Recently bought a 7870 to replace my dual 4830s and to my surprise this processor STILL doesn't even bottleneck anything (contrary to what some reviewers have been saying). Getting 45-60 fps in Battlefield 3 on Ultra, around 40 FPS in Far Cry 3 (no AA) on Ultra, and 60 fps in Skyrim w/ ultra high res pack. This is all with a 6 year old processor. Yeah, WOW.

Cons: It doesn't make me smoothies... that's about all.

Other Thoughts: Not planning on upgrading this amazing piece of hardware for another few years. I'm going to keep running this thing till it dies or I find newer games requiring 6+ cores...which won't be for a while. Its only been in the last couple of years that games have finally begun to take advantage of more than 2 cores, so this proc is only just starting to have its full potential utilized. Ran Far Cry 3 on Ultra (no AA) on my brothers Ivy Bridge i5 w/ a 6870 & 8GB of RAM and compared to my PC with the Q6600, 7870, & 4GB, I was getting at least 10 more frames than his, although this was obviously due to the superior graphics card. Still, this proves that this proc is NOT a bottleneck and definitely has some life left in it.

5 out of 5 eggsOld but never forgotten

Pros: I purchased this one to breathe some life back into my brother's aging Dell XPS 410 some years back. This paired with a GTX 560 and 4 GB of Mushkin DDR2 and the thing is STILL chugging along, and the computer was purchased in 2007

Cons: The ONLY con with this thing was that it got old fast int he grand scheme of things. Now too power hungry and newer gaming titles are starting to catch up to the rig in a big way.

Other Thoughts: Picked it up for a song since our parents "don't understand why he needs a new computer, this one works just fine..."... he is in high school about to transition into college, and given that he wants to get into Physics and some heavy duty number crunching he will need a machine that isn't quite so laughable. That it has lasted this long, however, is truly remarkable. Way to go Intel... son... I am PROUD!
