For business, Intel VT offers improved manageability, limiting downtime and maintaining worker productivity by isolating computing activities into separate partitions. In the home, Intel VT allows creating unique user environments for multiple family members using the same platform simultaneously.
  • newegg Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) EIST allows the system to dynamically adjust processor voltage and core frequency to decrease average power consumption and average heat production. Combined with existing power saving features, EIST may provide an excellent balance between providing power when you need it and conserving power when you don’t.
  • newegg Scalability and Performance with Intel EM64T Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (Intel EM64T) can improve performance by allowing the system to address more than 4 GB of both virtual and physical memory. Intel EM64T also provides support for 64 bit computing to help handle the applications of tomorrow.
  • newegg Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas in memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.

5 out of 5 eggsHad since release (8+) years, still runs GREAT!

Pros: This has been running extremely smooth since I first got it in 2007, my first gaming rig. I decided to swap out my old HD 3650 (yes, ancient hardware) with an R7 240 and everything has run smoothly (don't you worry, this is only a temp. replacement :))

Will remain as one of my favorite CPUs of all time

Cons: Didn't come with a picture frame to hang this masterpiece from

5 out of 5 eggsStill running after 7 years two.

Pros: Saw everyone still commenting on this , had to join in. Its on its 2nd HD and 3rd graphics card, sits in a garage running 24/7 in AZ heat and cold on win Win-7, we still play CS and Dota 2 on it. The case is completely a mess no sides, face plate fell of when the CD drive committed suicide. has a fan wired in the case to keep it cool. When it starts running slow I know its time to blow the 2 inch thick dust out of it. Wish everything I owned worked like this.

Cons: Chrysler didn't install one in my car!

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT CPU with GO stepping

Pros: Has been running 24/7 for 7 years+. O.C. @ 3.6 ghz. on a 790i ultra board.

Cons: Only issue is I can get the 2x 4mb Memory to 2000 but I can't get the FSB past 1600-LOL. Oh well- I'll keep trying.

5 out of 5 eggsInconceivable!

Pros: Running this @3.2ghz, on an ASUS P5K3 Deluxe mb, with Corsair Dominator 4gb ram @1600 (6-7-6-18),
and an MSI GTX 560 Ti. Now granted the ram and video were upgraded in 2011, but the cpu and mobo
have been running completely stable on air @3.2hgz since October 2007. That's a 33% OC folks - this has to be a record somewhere...
Just needed to chime in here and give this chip a standing ovation. Out of about 6-8 gaming builds i've done this is
by far my favorite, now handed down to my son, and still cranking out the latest titles!

Cons: They stopped making them.

Other Thoughts: Sometimes I open the side panel of the case and just stare in awe, much like i used to do to my fishtanks when i had them.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Indestructible CPU

Pros: Intel Q6600 man! Quad core. cache size. Bought it around Christmas time 2008 from right here at Newegg!!...with a GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R mobo & a simple $35 Zalman CPU cooler fan. It has been O.C.'ed from 2.4 to 3.0 Ghz since day one (I could have clocked it to 3.3 Ghz or higher but I didn't, because I prefer the quiet of low speed fans, and at 3.3+Ghz it preferred the middle or high fan speed better. It has been worked hard, the power used to stay on for weeks at a time, and it's still going strong after a full 7 years! No issues, never raised a temp or a fuss, not a single glitch. The only maintenance I ever did was a forced air blow dusting out of the case, once or twice a year, thoroughly but carefully, and just now I removed the CPU cooler to replace the 7 year old thermal transfer paste only because I found a tube with some in the back of a drawer.

Cons: I understand it draws a few more watts of power than the newer CPU's do...so? It's not an issue for me...so negligible, its not worth mentioning even if my electr bill is off a few cents a month...fans on low probably offset cpu's higher wattage draw, It runs cool...

Other Thoughts: Running DDR2 8500 1066 speed 3-4 gigs, XP & Win 7. Got a new GTX 750 TI sc 2 GB in the Pci E 2.0 slot. Kids had new Battlefront doing 60 or 70+ fps, it looked and played great.

5 out of 5 eggs7+ years old, playing new game

Pros: WOW, have been playing Star Wars Battlefront (released 11-17-2015). On low settings mind you, but i'm getting 70+ FPS, smooth game-play, and no problems. I O.C. to 3.3 GHz with 1.55 Volts. I have replaced everything else (except Motherboard). Who would think this far down the road it would still be playing the newest games?

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Best Investment EVER.

5 out of 5 eggsThe best CPU I've ever used

Pros: Have used this CPU since release. Been through 3 motherboards, at least 5 video cards, 2 power supplies and havent had a single problem whatsoever.

Cons: Absolutely none

Other Thoughts: Will never fail you unless you're being very stupid. If this CPU ever dies on me it will be placed in a frame and put on my wall.

5 out of 5 eggsNo Need to Upgrade 7 Years On

Pros: My old Dell Inspiron 530 desktop came with this processor, bought (I think) about 2008 and has been completely trouble-free, even with thousands of hours of "hard labor" at distributed computing (looking for ET with SETI@home) for a few hours pretty much on a daily basis, as well as the usual home computer stuff. It's currently running with Windows 7, but has done fine with XP and Vista. The only negatives I've seen are power usage, well over 200 watts when doing the SETI number crunching at 80% plus capacity (vs about 100 watts at light duty), but hey, I don't need a space heater in here when it's working. And it didn't get along well with Corel Paint Shop Pro XIII, but I think that was Corel's fault (later versions are OK). I was thinking about replacing the old Dell, that's why I was reading these old reviews trying to determine what processor would be a good upgrade, and was pleased to find that what I have is still just fine, I've got good video and USB3 with add-on cards, and the only antique-ey thing I can't change is the DDR2 memory, but that doesn't seem to be a problem, so maybe I'm good for another few years.

Cons: Power draw and heat are a bit high under extreme use
