Crush your enemies, climb the tower of paperwork, or do both at the same time. Intel's Core 2 Quad Q9550 not only makes it possible, it makes it easy. The Core 2 Quad Q9550 has quad cores that run at 2.83GHz and shares 12MB of L2 cache.

Quad cores means true multi-tasking and multi-threading. Tasks or threads get their own core; no more sharing one core and set of clock cycles. This lets you turn your system into the ultimate home entertainment center PC. One core handles the usual action on your operating system, while the second can play a DVD on the TV, the third download a file from internet, and the fourth one sends audio to the kids in another room with no lags or stutters. All this is made easier with Intel’s advanced Digital Media Boost.

The 45nm Intel Core 2 Quad processor is armed with Intel HD Boost, which implements new Intel Streaming SIMD Extension 4.1 (Intel SSE4.1) instructions for fast high definition video editing and encoding, enhance the multimedia performance.

The powerful processor delivers serious performance on the ultra-demanding games of today and tomorrow. The innovative 45nm quad-core technology optimizes thermal performance for reduced power consumption and noise.
  • newegg Intel Advanced Smart Cache Intel Advanced Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared L2 cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from fast L2 cache, resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
  • newegg Intel Wide Dynamic Execution With Intel Wide Dynamic Execution, each of the four cores can complete up to four full instructions simultaneously, improves execution speed and efficiency, delivering more instructions per clock cycle.
  • newegg Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas in memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.

For business, Intel VT offers improved manageability, limiting downtime and maintaining worker productivity by isolating computing activities into separate partitions. In the home, Intel VT allows creating unique user environments for multiple family members using the same platform simultaneously.

5 out of 5 eggs4 years of awesome service

Pros: Had this for four years. Still running strong. Put this with my new 7950 on a 780i mobo and it's able to keep up with Ivy bridge FPS in games, even FC and Crysis. I've got out stable at 4.03GHz and verified online through cpuid. Don't plan to upgrade for another couple years. I will likely never own a better CPU that will keep up with new programs and games as long as this one did.

Cons: Nope!

5 out of 5 eggsBought back in Jan 2010 and this CPU is still going strong

Pros: I paid $259 for this processor a few years ago for this CPU and I have not been sorry once. I mostly game (mainly BF 3) and watch movies on my rig and this processor does it all and more. I have the model with the E0 stepping and it has OC'd like a dream. On stock settings, I can get the processor to run 3.6GHz just by tweaking the multiplier. With a few small bumps with the voltage and other settings, I get a solid 3.8GHz on air, with an aftermarket CPU cooler of course. An Evercool Transformer 4 CPU cooler to be exact (great cooler by the way). And I replaced the 2 120 mm fans it came with, they ran at 1000 rpm, with 2 that ran faster that I had laying around, made by Antec and run at 1600 rpm's and light up blue.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: With this processor, GTX 570, OCZ SSD, and 8 Gigs of ram, I get 40 FPS on BF 3 on ultimate and over 60 fps on high all on 1900 x 1200 monitor. It's going to be hard parting with this CPU to upgrade come next spring. I plan on passing this old rig to my little girl, so she can rock the Lego video games. =)

5 out of 5 eggsCouldn't be happier!

Pros: I've had this processor since June 2009 and it's been overclocked to 4.0 ghz for at least one year, 24/7. It's still cranking along without a hiccup. It's going to be hard to convince myself to upgrade to Ivy Bridge during the coming winter, but I believe that I still will.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome CPU!!!

Pros: Awesome CPU. Really speeded up my system. Very noticeable difference.

Cons: None performance wise. Maybe the price?

Other Thoughts: I upgraded from the E8400 Core 2 Duo to this CPU. My cpu Aero Score went from 6.6 to 7.2 Everything runs a lot faster. I never overclock anything. No Need To.. I didn't want to spend $600+ for a new Mobo, ddr3 memory and an i5 or i7 cpu. This was the poor mans upgrade!!! And a good choice it was to. I couldn't be happier!!!

5 out of 5 eggsUpgrading on old Tech.

Pros: I had this Cpu in a old gigabyte Board like 5 years a go and performed outstanding, was able to sell the customer computer I had built for well over 1400 dollars.
I'm currently running the Core 2 duo and it runs well but now I'm missing my quad.
Old tech can still be awesome and powerful.
The Core 2 Quad being a fine example. Well worth the money for gamers, professionals, or just the average power user.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: My current build
Intel Core 2 Duo overcloved from 2.8 to 3.2
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R (rev. 1.1) Mobo
8 Gb's ddr2/800mhz GSkill overclocked to 1066
1 TB of seagate baracuda 2 500's in raid 0
60 Gb Ocz SSD sata lll for O/S, BF3, and LoL
nvidia 440 fermi overclocked edition.
Corsair PS 450 watts
Windows 7 64 bit
Running a older Raidmax sigittio case (I think that's the model name) With a 110 zalman blue led heatsink and a gskill memory cooler. All 120 Antec Fans Blue as well

5 out of 5 eggsGood workhorse

Pros: -Not a TERRIBLE overclock as some are inferring. You can easily get a solid 3.4 with stock heatsink and changing FSB in bios.

-12 MB Cache can't be beat

-775 Socket so I don't have to upgrade EVERYTHING

-Hasn't failed me. Lived through a power surge that the rest of my computer died (seriously, every component but this CPU)

-Compares to my Q6600 GO in overclocking

Cons: -Older? It's pretty much the best of the 775 socket. IF you count this as a con, it's a Pro for me.

Other Thoughts: I rarely write reviews so let that be a testament to how pleased I am with this CPU.

1 out of 5 eggsWarning for 680i Mobo Owners

Pros: is a Quad core.

Cons: 1 : This chip doesnt support any of the 680i Motherboards
2 : the multi is locked @ 8.5
3 : it overheats real quick
4 : not for overclocking, u wont pass the win boot screen if u go over 1600 fsb to reach a 3.6 Overclock
5 : U need an Nvidia 790i Ultra Motherboard or Other brand 4 this chip to work gud.

Other Thoughts: I Wish i had bought the XQ9650 when is was in stock.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Beats the pants off the E8500 it replaced. Doubled my CPU benchmark scores without overclocking. Price seems a little high, until you factor in what I got for the old one at auction. Getting all 5.9's on Vista Ultimate 64 bit.

Cons: Computer would not properly recognize the new CPU. I reset CMOS to get past that hiccup. Could not understand poor Passmark CPU benchmark scores once I was up and running (1700). Reinstalled 64 bit OS and scores jumped to 2900.
