Crush your enemies, climb the tower of paperwork, or do both at the same time. Intel's Core 2 Quad Q9550 not only makes it possible, it makes it easy. The Core 2 Quad Q9550 has quad cores that run at 2.83GHz and shares 12MB of L2 cache.
Quad cores means true multi-tasking and multi-threading. Tasks or threads get their own core; no more sharing one core and set of clock cycles. This lets you turn your system into the ultimate home entertainment center PC. One core handles the usual action on your operating system, while the second can play a DVD on the TV, the third download a file from internet, and the fourth one sends audio to the kids in another room with no lags or stutters. All this is made easier with Intel’s advanced Digital Media Boost.
The 45nm Intel Core 2 Quad processor is armed with Intel HD Boost, which implements new Intel Streaming SIMD Extension 4.1 (Intel SSE4.1) instructions for fast high definition video editing and encoding, enhance the multimedia performance.

Great Performance
- Pros: I do a lot of rendering with Cinema 4D and this increased my render times some 130%! It more than doubled the output of my Intel C2D e6600. Currently my Q9550 is overclocked to 3.3GHz and stays about 10 degrees cooler than my OC'ed e6600 at the same speed, which is directly related to the new 45nm fab process I suspect. It's amazing how the power of my computer instantly doubled just by adding a new chip and upgrading my bios. I couldn't be happier with it.
- Cons: The only con I can think of is that it doesn't really help with gaming. But that's not a problem with the chip, but with the game developers. Eventually more and more games will utilize more cores, but as of now there are only a few which really benefit.
- Other Thoughts: For those working in 3D rendering this chip is a MUST HAVE. Especially now that it's so cheap! Games will benefit only a little, so it's probably best to stick with a high-clock Core2duo for now if all you want it for is gaming. And, as always, if this helped you in any way hit the 'YES' button below!
E0 or C1?
- Pros: This is not a review but a request to all people reviewing this product. Please list whether you recieved C1 Stepping or E0 stepping.
You can find this information on the side of the box, it will be version SLAWQ if it is C1 stepping. It will be SLB8V if it is E0 stepping.
Newegg won't tell us which version we are buying, so we rely on people who have already purchased this processor to tell those of us who are thinking of buying it what version Newegg is shipping out.
It is important because the E0 will be better for overclocking. Thanks!
- Cons: Newegg won't tell us which stepping their processor is!
- Other Thoughts: For the record, the one i ordered on 15 August and recieved on 20 August was C1 Stepping.

Fast when stock, mind blowing when overclocked.
- Pros: 4.0gHz. Easily. This was the first time I had ever overclocked a processor, and the temps idle under 40c, never over 60c, and stable for 6+hrs on Prime 95. My Q6600 was great, especially for 3ds Max rendering, and video editing, but the difference is just monumental. Cooler, faster, and better OC than a Q6600.
- Cons: Makes you aware that your graphics card is holding you back. Games that are largely CPU dependent run beautifully, and at 1920x1080, thats not many. It really shows all the failings of your GPU.
Nuclear!!
- Pros: Very good price. What can I say, you get what you pay for. It overclocks well on my EVGA 780i SLI board. I'm at 3.83GHz w/ 1.35 vcore, running at 33* idle and 64* 100% load. Nice CPU.
- Cons: It doesn't walk the dog or take the kids to school.
Q9550
- Pros: Fast,very fast.Did i mention FAST!!!!
- Cons: not a core i7.bought it cheaper from intel, refurbished.also i had to have c1 stepping for a msi p45 platinum motherboard.
- Other Thoughts: this processor has shown to over bench the i7 920 chip.I just recently upgraded to this from a amd 6000 x2.havent used intel in years, but glad i switched back.also to earlier reviewer chanches are you will receive E0 stepping since C1 was from over a year ago.

Highlights
 |
Intel Core 2 Quad-core Processor With four processing cores, the multitasking monster Quad-Core Intel Core 2 processor delivers fourfold the performance on highly-threaded applications, taking your desktop PC experience into a completely new realm of mega power. The powerful processor delivers serious performance on the ultra-demanding games of today and tomorrow. The innovative 45nm quad-core technology optimizes thermal performance for reduced power consumption and noise.
|
 |
Intel Advanced Smart Cache Intel Advanced Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared L2 cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from fast L2 cache, resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
|
 |
Intel Wide Dynamic Execution With Intel Wide Dynamic Execution, each of the four cores can complete up to four full instructions simultaneously, improves execution speed and efficiency, delivering more instructions per clock cycle.
|
 |
Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas in memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.
|
 |
Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) With Intel VT, one hardware platform functions as multiple "virtual" platforms. For business, Intel VT offers improved manageability, limiting downtime and maintaining worker productivity by isolating computing activities into separate partitions. In the home, Intel VT allows creating unique user environments for multiple family members using the same platform simultaneously.
