Crush your enemies, climb the tower of paperwork -- or do both at the same time. Intel's Core 2 Quad Q8400 not only makes it possible, it makes it easy. The Core 2 Quad Q8400 has four cores that run at 2.66GHz and shares 4MB of L2 cache.

Quad cores means true multi-tasking and multi-threading. Tasks or threads get their own core; no more sharing one core and set of clock cycles. This lets you turn your system into the ultimate home entertainment center PC. One core handles the usual action on your operating system, while the second can play a DVD on the TV, the third download a file from internet, and the fourth one sends audio to the kids in another room with no lags or stutters. All this is made easier with Intel’s advanced Digital Media Boost.

The 45nm Intel Core 2 Quad processor is armed with Intel HD Boost, which implementing new Intel Streaming SIMD Extension 4.1 (Intel SSE4.1) instructions for fast high definition video editing and encoding, enhance the multimedia performance.

  • newegg Intel Core 2 Quad-core Processor With four processing cores, the multitasking monster Quad-Core Intel Core 2 processor delivers fourfold the performance on highly-threaded applications, taking your desktop PC experience into a completely new realm of mega power. The powerful processor delivers serious performance on the ultra-demanding games of today and tomorrow. The innovative 45nm quad-core technology optimizes thermal performance for reduced power consumption and noise.
  • newegg Intel Advanced Smart Cache Intel Advanced Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared L2 cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from fast L2 cache, resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
  • newegg Intel Wide Dynamic Execution With Intel Wide Dynamic Execution, each of the four cores can complete up to four full instructions simultaneously, improves execution speed and efficiency, delivering more instructions per clock cycle.
  • newegg Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas in memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.

5 out of 5 eggsQuad is 4 This is Duo x2

Pros: Good chip for a mid-level unit and a Good Gamer CPU. Do not expect WarpSpeed Gaming with this puppy. It is like the Quad Core is just a split Dual Core, but still for the bucks it is well worth the buy.
You can get some serious speed if upgrading your system with this chip - i did, but overclocking is not really a good thing on many MoBo's as Gangs and unexpected boots are sometimes encountered - if you want to get Super Gaming Speed get a different chip. This one will push the Games, but don't get upset when you want that little extra - as she does not have it in her

Cons: Does not act like as a Quad Core CPU - it is more like a Beefed Up Dual Core. Runs a little hot, but not a big deal with proper case ventilation.

5 out of 5 eggsStill Chuggin Along

Pros: It had been running at 3.00GHz for 2years without any issues. Now it's just running at stock speeds mainly because I keep on forgetting to overclock the bugger.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Still runs.

3 out of 5 eggsMeh

Pros: Came with a free paperweight, who actually uses the intel cooler anyways?

Cons: After much time spent OCing it's stable only at stock. The board I'm using was working great for my other processor, why oh why did I want a Q so bad when E was fine!!

5 out of 5 eggsGood solid upgrade for LGA775

Pros: I upgraded from a Conroe core 2 duo E6200 to this Wolfdale core 2 quad Q8400 processor. I saw great jumps in benchmarks, watched my load temps from from 120F to 105F, and the variable vcore seldom draws more than one volt.

Cons: It's still not Clarkdale. No onboard memory controller. I can live without it.

Other Thoughts: Great systems can be put together for not a lot of money if you're willing to go with last year's technology.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: 4 cores

Cons: DOA, paying for return shipping

Other Thoughts: I bought this to complete what will be my final CPU upgrade for my home PC. My C2D runs well.

When I put the C2Q in, the fans move but the computer will not POST. When I put in the old CPU, it works fine. I've never had a DOA CPU in the 15 years I've built them and this is pretty disappointing. I shouldn't have to pay for my replacement... Ohh yeah, and they are out of stock, so who knows if I will even be able to get one.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat reliable processor

Pros: Great processor for socket 775 motherboards. powerful enough to do most things but not too expensive.

Cons: you may be better off with a I5 processor or a i7 if you are building a new machine

5 out of 5 eggsHighly Recommend!

Pros: * Great CPU for the price
* It's Intel! :D
* Ready for CPU hungry games

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this CPU to everyone I know. If you can't afford an i7. Then this is the chip for you. Great budget CPU.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Processor at an O.K. Price

Pros: Upgrade from a 65nm Controe Core2Duo @ 2.33Ghz. Performance increase is noticeable. Games heavy in CPU usage or optimized for Quad Core offer better performance overall. Windows 7 score has gone from a 5.8 to a 7.1, overall feel is a bit more responsive as well. Processor usage is no longer clipping as it did with the old CPU.

Cons: Price is a bit high for an older chip like this. I would have expected somewhere between $125-$150. The faster Core2Quads are as much as an i7, so in that situation most people would just move to a Sandy Bridge setup.

Other Thoughts: This is a minor upgrade for me. Waiting for LGA 2011 to be introduced later this year. Regardless this Core2 Quad will breath a little extra life into my system until then, and serve as a good CPU for my HTPC, which my current LGA 755 system will eventually be converted into once it's replaced.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU In A Shuttle SG31

Pros: Runs cool and hard.

Cons: None...none at all for an LGA775.

Other Thoughts: This review is about THIS CPU...for LGA775. Save your comments about performance relative to Sandy Bridge to someone who really cares.

I review this item, not its competition.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Processor and Great Service!

Pros: -Significant performance upgrade. (WEI for Processor and RAM jumped from 5.8 & 5.9 to 7.1 & 7.2 respectively).
-"Overclockability"
-Great way to breathe life into an older machine
-Zero heat issues

Cons: -None

Other Thoughts: As usual Newegg's ability to get packages to me faster than advertised continues to amaze me.

I dropped this into a Shuttle XPC SG31 one of my clients was going to dump along with a new video card and turned it into a decent little beast.
