Crush your enemies, climb the tower of paperwork -- or do both at the same time. Intel's Core 2 Quad Q8400 not only makes it possible, it makes it easy. The Core 2 Quad Q8400 has four cores that run at 2.66GHz and shares 4MB of L2 cache.
Quad cores means true multi-tasking and multi-threading. Tasks or threads get their own core; no more sharing one core and set of clock cycles. This lets you turn your system into the ultimate home entertainment center PC. One core handles the usual action on your operating system, while the second can play a DVD on the TV, the third download a file from internet, and the fourth one sends audio to the kids in another room with no lags or stutters. All this is made easier with Intel’s advanced Digital Media Boost.
The 45nm Intel Core 2 Quad processor is armed with Intel HD Boost, which implementing new Intel Streaming SIMD Extension 4.1 (Intel SSE4.1) instructions for fast high definition video editing and encoding, enhance the multimedia performance.

Quad Power!
- Pros: 1333 FSB, Runs unbelievably Cool, Fast as Heck For $180
- Cons: My Motherboard won't accept two of em at the same time. he he
- Other Thoughts: Works great in my Gigabyte P45 board. Overclocks great with 8x multiplier. This thing is running cool. Last system was a Pent D 925 it was so hot compared to this its unreal. No brainer Just buy it. You won't be sorry
A pretty decent CPU
- Pros: This is a pretty good CPU! The overclockability is great! I cranked this up to 3.35 with little to no problems whatsoever. Also, the quad core is good too.
- Cons: Stock fan is bad! My other cooler cools 20C cooler than this!
Also, the L2 cache is a bit small...
- Other Thoughts: If you need something that isn't expensive, but pretty good, then get this!

Great but with the 1156 out.....
- Pros: I have used two Q8400 CPUs now. I have been impressed with it's performance. If you need a replacement for a Pentium and you motherboard and RAM can handle this chip, it would be a great choice. It also overclocks well if that's what you're in to. It should run Windows 7 for a long time and be very snappy.
- Cons: With the new 1156 socket CPUs out now, it does not make a lot of sense to use this CPU if you are building a new system. For about the same price you can get a motherboard, CPU, and DDR3 RAM for a new build. That said, the Q8400 is fine. It should do what most users need for years to come.
- Other Thoughts: Even with the 1156 socket i5 and i7 chips, the motherboards are more "mature" for the 775 CPUs. Even if you ARE building a new system to run Windows 7, I would strongly consider getting this CPU and a good P45 motherboard. The new 1156 boards still have some bugs to work out at the time of this post. I have built systems with the Q8400, Q8200 and also the i5750 and i7860. The Q8400 does fine and I don't need to worry about flashing the BIOS on every motherboard when I use the Q8400. The technology is mature and everything works. With the i5 or i7 you might run into problems at the time of this post. The motherboards for the 775 socket have had a while to mature and they are great....so is the Core 2 Quad Q8400!
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 Yorkfield 2.66GHz 4MB L2 Cache
- Pros: Excellent CPU for this money. I would not state it is a gaming CPU because it is not. It is very stable and most excellent for multi-program usage. The 3.0gig hz 1333fsb is the CPU I would get for gaming.
- Cons: The fan could be better, but if installed using some care it will do the trick.
- Other Thoughts: Better fan could be packaged, or a fan that is better latched to the motherboard. Other than that it is winner.
Sweet Processor
- Pros: Great processor. Have not oc'ed yet, but from other feedback, it looks like I will have some room to grow.
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: Based on some other reviews both here and elsewhere, I decided to add an after market cooler as I will want to oc this in the future. I went with ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 92mm Fluid Dynamic CPU Cooler. It works like a charm and is super quiet. I get around 30-32C standing still under no load.

Intel Core 2 Quad-core Processor With four processing cores, the multitasking monster Quad-Core Intel Core 2 processor delivers fourfold the performance on highly-threaded applications, taking your desktop PC experience into a completely new realm of mega power. The powerful processor delivers serious performance on the ultra-demanding games of today and tomorrow. The innovative 45nm quad-core technology optimizes thermal performance for reduced power consumption and noise.

 |
Intel Advanced Smart Cache Intel Advanced Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared L2 cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from fast L2 cache, resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
|
 |
Intel Wide Dynamic Execution With Intel Wide Dynamic Execution, each of the four cores can complete up to four full instructions simultaneously, improves execution speed and efficiency, delivering more instructions per clock cycle.
|
 |
Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas in memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.
