Crush your enemies, climb the tower of paperwork -- or do both at the same time. Intel's Core 2 Quad Q8400 not only makes it possible, it makes it easy. The Core 2 Quad Q8400 has four cores that run at 2.66GHz and shares 4MB of L2 cache.
Quad cores means true multi-tasking and multi-threading. Tasks or threads get their own core; no more sharing one core and set of clock cycles. This lets you turn your system into the ultimate home entertainment center PC. One core handles the usual action on your operating system, while the second can play a DVD on the TV, the third download a file from internet, and the fourth one sends audio to the kids in another room with no lags or stutters. All this is made easier with Intel’s advanced Digital Media Boost.
The 45nm Intel Core 2 Quad processor is armed with Intel HD Boost, which implementing new Intel Streaming SIMD Extension 4.1 (Intel SSE4.1) instructions for fast high definition video editing and encoding, enhance the multimedia performance.

Quad Power!
- Pros: 1333 FSB, Runs unbelievably Cool, Fast as Heck For $180
- Cons: My Motherboard won't accept two of em at the same time. he he
- Other Thoughts: Works great in my Gigabyte P45 board. Overclocks great with 8x multiplier. This thing is running cool. Last system was a Pent D 925 it was so hot compared to this its unreal. No brainer Just buy it. You won't be sorry
A pretty decent CPU
- Pros: This is a pretty good CPU! The overclockability is great! I cranked this up to 3.35 with little to no problems whatsoever. Also, the quad core is good too.
- Cons: Stock fan is bad! My other cooler cools 20C cooler than this!
Also, the L2 cache is a bit small...
- Other Thoughts: If you need something that isn't expensive, but pretty good, then get this!

Missing Information about this CPU
- Pros: For those that are looking to understand Intel® Virtualization Technology (Intel® VT) this CPU does have Virtualization Technology. It does say because the spec code is (SLGT6)
Newegg needs to add this information to the list of spec. But the only difference from the Q9400 and Q8400 is the L2 Cache on the Q8400 is 4MB and the Q9400 is 6MB. Eventhou the Q9400 is faster but 15% the Q8400 is still an excellent product to buy at 169.99. The Q9400 is only 189.99.
- Cons: Lack of information about this intel product.
- Other Thoughts: Good information provided by Intel website.
Note: This item product does have VT support
Nice processor
- Pros: I purchased this paired with Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L MB. I also own an AMD Phenom 9950 (quad core 2.66 GHz) and this is notably faster for demanding applications. Benchmarking puts it near the i5 750 for about $50 less (unless you are wanting some of the i5 specific features).
This build is for my parents so I didn't overclock, but I am positive that it would have been a breeze. On a stock clooler in a case without great airflow idle temps were just around 30 C. Paired with a better case (airflow wise) and aftermarket cooler, I am confident that this thing could easily clock past the 3 GHz mark.
- Cons: For ~$20 more you can get a Phenom II 965 that would definitely outperform this along with many of the other similarly priced Intel processors. If I were building myself a gaming rig on a similar budge this is the route I may have taken.
Works great
- Pros: Passed stress test with BurnInTest Pro at max-load duty cycles on a 15 minute duration. Utilizing it for my everyday tasks I didn't see it bump past 5% most of the time (I multi-task A LOT). Never went above 65°C during the stress test, 70° is high and it never reached anywhere close to it. Of course, the temp has a lot to do with the CPU cooler and case I have(Rosewill RCX-Z300 92mm Ball CPU Cooler, and the NZXT ZERO 2 chassis - fully loaded with fans). All in all this thing is very very quick, can handle any day-to-day task and even your more complex tasks such as 3D modeling and the like.
- Cons: The socket format. Not really an issue for most, but keep in mind that it is VERY EASY to bend the pins on the mobo. They're basically little pieces of wire brush instead of pins. The slightest touch will bend them so just take care when installing the cpu.
- Other Thoughts: I bought this as an upgrade from an AMD Socket AM2 64x cpu, so it had been a while since I have upgraded until this CPU. Even so, I still consider this thing fast and more then enough for your everyday computing.

Highlights
 |
Intel Core 2 Quad-core Processor With four processing cores, the multitasking monster Quad-Core Intel Core 2 processor delivers fourfold the performance on highly-threaded applications, taking your desktop PC experience into a completely new realm of mega power. The powerful processor delivers serious performance on the ultra-demanding games of today and tomorrow. The innovative 45nm quad-core technology optimizes thermal performance for reduced power consumption and noise.
|
 |
Intel Advanced Smart Cache Intel Advanced Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared L2 cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from fast L2 cache, resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
|
 |
Intel Wide Dynamic Execution With Intel Wide Dynamic Execution, each of the four cores can complete up to four full instructions simultaneously, improves execution speed and efficiency, delivering more instructions per clock cycle.
|
 |
Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas in memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.
