Intel Core 2 Duo E7600 Wolfdale Dual-Core 3.06GHz LGA 775 65W Processor BX80571E7600

  • 1066MHz FSB
  • 45nm Wolfdale 65W
  • 3MB L2 Cache
ICON Loading...

With the Wolfdale core, Intel pours more power into a Core 2 Duo package. The 45nm process allowed Intel to reduce the power needed down to 65W. Lower power means lower CPU heat, which translates to lower system heat and longer system life. They also packed more features into the chip.

L2 cache has been bumped to 3MB and the Front Side Bus has been pushed to 1066MHz. You can now use both DDR2 and the hot new DDR3 memory for extreme performance. They also boosted memory access and execution speed with the Wide Dynamic Execution and Smart Memory Access. These combine to let the processor compute more instructions with more data per clock cycle. You'd better watch out; your enemies will be shooting back faster now.

The Advanced Digital Media Boost feature has been enhanced with the SSE4 instruction set and Intel HD Boost. This will give your entertainment experience a boost with better audio and video processing. It will also help with speech recognition, engineering and scientific applications. Perhaps most important of all will be the boost to security with increased encryption power and speed.

  • newegg Specialized Dual-core Microarchitecture The Intel Core 2 Duo processor includes dual execution cores in a single processor to enable execution of parallel threads or applications on separate cores, resulting in revolutionary dual-core performance, breakthrough processor energy efficiency and exceptional system response when running multi-threaded or multiple demanding applications simultaneously. The innovative 45nm dual-core technology optimizes thermal performance for reduced power consumption and noise.
  • newegg Intel Advanced Smart Cache Intel Advanced Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared L2 cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from fast L2 cache, resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
  • newegg Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (Intel EM64T) Intel EM64T provides an enhancement to Intel 32-bit architecture by enabling the mobile processor platform to access larger amounts of memory. With appropriate 64-bit supporting hardware and software, platforms based on an Intel processor supporting Intel EM64T can enable use of extended virtual and physical memory.
  • newegg Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) EIST allows the system to dynamically adjust processor voltage and core frequency to decrease average power consumption and average heat production. Combined with existing power saving features, EIST may provide an excellent balance between providing power when you need it and conserving power when you don’t.
  • newegg Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas in memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.

5 out of 5 eggsStill love the core 2 duos

Pros: Fast, no real need for me to overclock it at this point.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Picked this up for an old board that I had right before it got deactivated. I know the technology is better but for what I needed it for this is perfect.

5 out of 5 eggsgood stuff

Pros: These are good cpu's, ran an e7200 about 2yr's!Had it on msi p35 board with 2 gig's corsair ddr2 800, cpu would do 4ghz and ram 1100 mhz plus! Most the time cpu was at 3.5ghz, and according to everest clock for clock was better than my i5 760 that i have now!

Cons: hard to believe

Other Thoughts: At 3.5ghz the 7200 in everest cpu zlib is just as powerful as the i5 760 2cores enabled at 4ghz! may be because i'm using the h55m board instead of the p55 board. The i5 clocks easier with less vcore and of course 4cores enabled the core2 is no match!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: i love this processor. i'm definitely behind on getting the latest and greatest, but this is one fast processor! Being on a budget, and to see a nearly 200 dollar difference for just 1 MB cache more and a lower internal frequency, i came back to the e7600.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: just keep in mind the upgrade potential if buying this in conjunction with a new motherboard. there are bunches of boards that can upgrade from this processor and go get the quad core!!

5 out of 5 eggsgreat proc

Pros: This little baby is a solid workhorse. I have built 2 for 2 different customers and not 1 call for support yet! The socket T (775) gives you a wide selection of mobos to choose from. I put them on a Asus P5Q Deluxe, corsair H50 cooler, and of course corsair mem. OC'ed @ 4.0 no problem. Both users used them to edit video.

Cons: the price is a little high for a dual core

Other Thoughts: You can get all the stuff I mentioned right here @ newegg. TG now USA did not even com close for the entire build.

5 out of 5 eggsSweet

Pros: I was able to over clock this CPU to 4.23 GHZ and was stable. Temp measured never reached over 55c. I even hit a 7.1 windows score!!

Cons: The cooling fan in not that great. I got one of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118223.

Other Thoughts: I have buddies who went out and paid big bucks for core 7's. You do the math:)

5 out of 5 eggsGood Chip for the money

Pros: This chip is great if you have a wimpy oem power supply like mine, as it provides greater performance without increased power requirements. Increased my FSB speed and on chip cache size and speed plus a little boost in ghz from 2.8 to 3.0.

Cons: None encountered yet.

4 out of 5 eggsNoisy fan

Pros: Nothing yet since I have installed any games. Windows Experience Index went from 4.1 (P4) to 6.5.

Cons: Noisy fan. This is by far the noisest fan in my case, noisier than the two 90mms. Never sleeps. I'll need an after market.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA Rate in Ridiculous

Pros: I have no idea if there are any pros because I have yet to get one that works.

Cons: I ordered a brand new Intel Core 2 Duo a couple weeks ago. It was DOA. I just installed the replacement today. that one was also DOA. So, I do NOT recommend buying this specific Intel processor.
