  • newegg 32nm Hexa-Core Processing With six processing cores, the multitasking monster Intel Core i7-970 delivers six times the performance on highly-threaded applications, taking your desktop PC experience into a completely new realm of mega power. Intel's breakthrough 32nm process technology incorporates 2nd generation of high-k + metal gate transistors for improved performance and energy efficiency.
  • newegg Integrated DDR3 Memory Controller With the integrated DDR3 memory controller, the Intel Core i7-970 enables three channels of DDR3 1066 MHz memory, resulting in up to 25.6 GB/sec memory bandwidth. Plus the memory controller's lower latency and higher memory bandwidth delivers amazing performance for data-intensive applications.
  • newegg Intel Smart Cache Intel Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from faster, more efficient cache subsystem resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
  • newegg Intel Turbo Boost Technology Intel Turbo Boost technology automatically allows processor cores to run faster than the base operating frequency if it's operating below power, current, and temperature specification limits, maximizing speed for demanding applications, dynamically accelerating performance to match your workload-more performance when you need it the most.
  • newegg Intel Hyper-Threading Technology (HT Technology) Intel Hyper-Threading Technology delivers thread-level parallelism on each processor resulting in more efficient use of processor resources—higher processing throughput—and improved performance on the multi-threaded software of today and tomorrow.
  • newegg Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) EIST allows the system to dynamically adjust processor voltage and core frequency to decrease average power consumption and average heat production. Combined with existing power saving features, EIST may provide an excellent balance between providing power when you need it and conserving power when you don’t.

5 out of 5 eggsPowerful

Pros: 6 cores chew through everything quickly. The only thing I've found that makes them work hard is video conversion. Runs fairly cool, I have the stock cooler on it and it stays below 95F idle. The stock cooler is pretty hefty and huge, so unless you're going to really push this thing or OC it, you don't need an aftermarket cooler. The stock fan is nice and quiet too.

Cons: I wish it was a bit more efficient, 130W is a lot. Kinda pricey.

5 out of 5 eggsIntel i7-970 Gulftown

Pros: Extremely fast with video editing and rendering of files. I upgraded from a core I7 2.6 ghz and noticed a big difference more than I had expected.

Cons: None, other than a little expensive.

5 out of 5 eggsIntel i7-970 Gulftown

Pros: This is a GREAT! GREAT! CPU, I bought this for my first custom build. My other good computer is out of date (7 years old Sony Intel Pentium4 3.0 Ghz). This CPU is the same specs as the extreme version except the i7-970 multiplier's locked and the extreme version just few more Mhz is added to it. I don't want to pay another few hundred dollars more for a couple of minor changes. This CPU is FAST enough to get things done at its stock 3.2Ghz. I am not a gaming sucker but, would like my computer to runs as good as it looks......
I did few minor changes to get 4.1 Ghz on a stock intel CPU cooler that came with the i7-970. Changed stock CPU Vcore voltage to 1.3750v and the Bclock 133mhz to 170mhz.
(170x25)=4250mhz (4.1ghz) and set my DDR3 ram to1066mhz. it's very stable and blazing FAST! bench test on 3Dmark11 get perfectly high scores at any places.
CPU idle between 27-32c and cores temp. between 30-45c is monitor by EVGA E-LEET tuning Utility.

Cons: None at this times.....

5 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: Does 4ghtz easy. Who needs Sandy bridge? 6/12 cant beat that to do REAL computer work.

Cons: *NONE* price maybe a little high the new stuff will be out next month.

Other Thoughts: Drop price more already. Newegg best service fast shipping and never any problems with any Rma 5 eggs all the way.

5 out of 5 eggsRuns great

Pros: I've had this for a month now and chose it over the Sandybridge ones for the 6core/12thread capability.

with just an H50 cooler, it instantly OC'd to 4.2ghz and maxxed out at 75degrees on Prime. Very stable and cool, great CPU

Cons: Price compared to sandy bridges

5 out of 5 eggsI own it

Pros: 3.8142Ghz with fatal1ty RAM 6G trile kit in Auto at 1250Mhz.

All voltage stock. I only changed the Host Clock Frequency to 159 out of 200.

Cons: Some people will consider this platform to be old and underperforming.

Other Thoughts: At 32nm heat should not be an issue as it is very hard to light up all six cores much less HyperThread in 12 virtual cores. I speak of an average user.

In single thread game apps the one to three cores functioning, their heat that is, is spread over the entire flat heatsink contact surface of the CPU [the flat surface Fred], so you can surmise that less than 1/3rd of the CPU is fired up running the gaming application. TRANSLATION: It runs cool, Wendy. You do not have to go and get the bat! I have been talking about tusing the stock INTEL HSF.

5 out of 5 eggsIncredible processor!!

Pros: I have owned and used this processor heavily now for 9 months and IT ROCKS!! I have thrown everything possible at this monster and it has chewed up everthing and spit it out with ease.

Backing up my DVD collection is amazingly fast with this processor. A 90 minute DVD only takes 15 minutes max. to copy without a hitch! Blazing fast compared to my previous processor that took over an hour.

Multi-tasking is a breeze for the i7 970. I can have 3 browsers open, watch a Blu-ray movie, copy a DVD, surf the web and do numerous other tasks all at the same time without an ounce of hesitation or flaw in video decoding.

Max temps while all of this is being processed is steady at 35 degrees Celcius using the stock cooler.

You cant's go wrong with this processor. JUST GET IT! I love the i7 970 so much, I purchased a second one 6 months ago and it's solid as rock.

NEWEGG IS THE BEST!!!

Cons: Absolutely NONE!

Other Thoughts: Save your money and buy this processor rather than the higher priced extreme versions.
