  • newegg Fully Unlocked Flexibility and Freedom With its fully unlocked multiplier, the Intel Core i5-2500K processor allows full control over the processor core/turbo and DDR3 ratios as well as power and current limits for the best possible overclocking results. It also allows for processor graphics overclocking for improved 3D performance. Intel’s cutting-edge 32nm micro-architecture with 2nd gen Hi-K+ metal gate process delivers the 2nd generation Intel Core processors with higher performance at lower power, thus better overclocking capability. (Intel P67 Express Chipset required for core and memory overclocking, and Intel H67 Express Chipset required for graphics overclocking.)
  • newegg Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 More intelligent, energy-efficient, and dynamic than previous generation, Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 gives you accelerating performance when you need it. It delivers an even greater automatic speed increase by allowing processor and graphics cores to run faster than the base operating frequency for demanding applications if the processor is operating below power, current, and temperature specification limits.
  • newegg Intel Smart Cache Intel Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from faster, more efficient cache subsystem resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
  • newegg Integrated DDR3 Memory Controller Integrated memory controller enables two channels of DDR3 1333 MHz memory, resulting in up to 21 GB/sec memory bandwidth. Plus the memory controller's lower latency and higher memory bandwidth delivers amazing performance for data-intensive applications.
  • newegg Built-in Visuals (with H Chipset) The visual features built into the 2nd generation Intel Core processor family deliver everything you need to enjoy a stunning and seamless visual experience. Intel Quick Sync Video and newly-added Intel Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) make media processing incredibly fast. New built-in Intel HD Graphics delivers discrete 3D graphics performance without the needed cost and power of a discrete graphics card, and features Intel Clear Video Technology than enhances video playback, image quality, and color fidelity for a premium visual experience. What’s more, add another dimension to what you see on your PC with Intel InTRU 3D technology which supports stereoscopic 3D Blu-ray playback in full 1080p resolution over HDMI 1.4.

5 out of 5 eggsThe Best CPU Ever Made

Pros: - 3 years at 4.5 GHz on air and counting
- Handles any task possible
- Single thread performance is on par with current Intel offers and still miles and miles ahead of anything AMD ever built

Cons: - None

Other Thoughts: This processor lasted me 3 years so far.
Every year I check if there is any reason to upgrade it and every year it proves there is nothing better and nothing faster for my tasks.
We'll see how many years are ahead.

5 out of 5 eggsStill #1 Gaming Beast

Pros: Handles extreme overclocks better than both the newer i5 models, very stable

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Been running this 2500K @ 4.8GHz overclock with SpeedStep still on (idles @ 1.5GHz) with a slight over-volt since I bought this in 2012 with an H80 liquid cooling AIO on lowest fan. Still hasn't become a bottleneck for graphics cards. This chip is an absolute beast.

5 out of 5 eggsDream come true!

Pros: Reliable, Powerful, Stable. I've had this processor for my first and only build since 2012 and I've been in love with it ever since. I ran it with an EVGA gtx 560ti 2gb card for when I was playing battlefield 3 and Skyrim and I maxed out the settings and they handled it flawlessly. Still happy with this CPU years later and the overclocking is a breeze!

Cons: Cant run 2 on my mobo LOL

5 out of 5 eggsGreat processor

Pros: POWERFUL!

Cons: Does nothing when the computer is off.

Other Thoughts: This processor is so powerful! I grabbed this back in 2012 and its still allowing me to have 60+ FPS (with my 7950) in all these modern games. No overheating issues or any troubles with multitasking.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Pros: The speed is amazing for it's price and OCing capability, the processor has yet to have trouble handling ANYTHING I've thrown at it, and even managed to not bottleneck a crossfire 2 GTX 770s

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsYear 3

Cons: Wasn't free

Other Thoughts: I built a machine with this 3 years ago. I have seen no problems with it.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazingly overclockable

Pros: Keeps up with current i5 processors in performance. Is highly overclockable and stable even when using a small all-in-one liquid cooler.

Cons: Does not want to work with my GTX 770.

Other Thoughts: Oc'd to 5GHz with the following:

Multiplier: 50
BLCK: 100.0
Spread Spectrum: Disabled
Offset Voltage: +0.190V
CPU Load-Line Calibration: 100%
PCH Voltage: 1.050V
CPU PLL Voltage: 1.840V
Enhanced Halt State(C1E): Auto
CPU C3 State Support: Disabled
CPU C6 State Support: Disabled
Package C State Support: Disabled
VT-Technology: Disabled

Runs Prime95 for 8 hours before temps got too high and shut itself down. During normal use it's perfectly fine. Using a 120mm all-in-one radiator with a push-pull fan configuration temps are 27C - 68C respectively.

5 out of 5 eggsSimply still a top choice 2 years later

Pros: It just flat out gets the job done and then some

Cons: None, of all the modern generations of intel i core processors its the most balanced and its durable .

Other Thoughts: Well i'm not doing in superhardcore overclocking on mine , i use a mid level ATX asus P8Z77-V LX Motherboard so i figured a flat 4.0GHZ with a hyper 212 evo cooler and this thing should last a real long time. well at 4.0GHZ it screams i can only imagine what i could push it too. And memory utilization this thing is a beast. I currently run Gskillz ripjaws 2133 4x4 16 gb of ram in the system and it loves the ram and based on the synthetic benchmarks ive done on it utilizes the ram fully . I like many chose the sweet spot setup for the build i bought a $187 at the time 2GB EVGA sc GTX 660 graphics card. I went on newegg found a intel cherryville 520 64 gb sata III ssd refurbed for 90 dollars. Bought one of those 600GB sata III velociraptors to pair with the ssd and use as primary storage drive. I did make sure i bought i good dependable power supply for the system i still got a good deal on it to. Bought a M2II seasonic 750 watt bronze PSU , Payed about 79 dollars after rebates on it. I ran passmark 8 benchmark on the system WOW for $1050 rig i could not be more impressed , Solid middle tier system i know some of those top system people have like 7-8K in those systems and to know that for 1/8th that i'm 55% of the best system thats been benched on the site top build system rank was 8236 , mine came in at 4474. This 2500k is a Gem Intel comes out with these , their legacy standouts . I remember the old e8400 dual core how well its held the test of time , its still a viable option for a lot of people, and i still play one with in a old overhauled rig i have. The Q6600 , wow just get it close to 3ghz and its still a good little powerhoouse and we're talking 8 year old tech. When intel came out with the core architecture in late 2005 early 2006 they found the tech to leave amd in the dust. Now granted i have some amd builds as well , but their Phenoms , the phenoms are the only amd cpus past present and future that i will acknowledge and play with. But to get back to the point i was going to make The Sandy bridge i5 CPUs are one of those we'll look back as a Gem and should keep a long term value
