  • newegg Fully Unlocked Flexibility and Freedom With its fully unlocked multiplier, the Intel Core i5-2500K processor allows full control over the processor core/turbo and DDR3 ratios as well as power and current limits for the best possible overclocking results. It also allows for processor graphics overclocking for improved 3D performance. Intel’s cutting-edge 32nm micro-architecture with 2nd gen Hi-K+ metal gate process delivers the 2nd generation Intel Core processors with higher performance at lower power, thus better overclocking capability. (Intel P67 Express Chipset required for core and memory overclocking, and Intel H67 Express Chipset required for graphics overclocking.)
  • newegg Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 More intelligent, energy-efficient, and dynamic than previous generation, Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 gives you accelerating performance when you need it. It delivers an even greater automatic speed increase by allowing processor and graphics cores to run faster than the base operating frequency for demanding applications if the processor is operating below power, current, and temperature specification limits.
  • newegg Intel Smart Cache Intel Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from faster, more efficient cache subsystem resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
  • newegg Integrated DDR3 Memory Controller Integrated memory controller enables two channels of DDR3 1333 MHz memory, resulting in up to 21 GB/sec memory bandwidth. Plus the memory controller's lower latency and higher memory bandwidth delivers amazing performance for data-intensive applications.
  • newegg Built-in Visuals (with H Chipset) The visual features built into the 2nd generation Intel Core processor family deliver everything you need to enjoy a stunning and seamless visual experience. Intel Quick Sync Video and newly-added Intel Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) make media processing incredibly fast. New built-in Intel HD Graphics delivers discrete 3D graphics performance without the needed cost and power of a discrete graphics card, and features Intel Clear Video Technology than enhances video playback, image quality, and color fidelity for a premium visual experience. What’s more, add another dimension to what you see on your PC with Intel InTRU 3D technology which supports stereoscopic 3D Blu-ray playback in full 1080p resolution over HDMI 1.4.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Pros: Overclocks very easily
FAST
Energy Efficient
Does everything I need it to do.
Plays every game I play with ease (coupled with my 660ti). Games include nba 2k13, fifa 13, mechwarrior online (a very cpu intense game), darksiders, skyrim, torchlight 2, metro 2033. all at very good frame rates.

Cons: runs a little lot

Other Thoughts: Love it.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent cpu!

Pros: -Very cool running cpu.
-Easy to overclock.
-Taken mine up to 5Ghz, but runs at 4.5Ghz.
-Makes my games play smooth.
-Edits and converts videos fast enough for me.

Cons: -It takes a little more voltage than when I first got it, but all electronics degrade over time.

Other Thoughts: Probably the best and most well known chip that's used for quality gaming, my main pc now runs the 3570k@4.5Ghz.. It runs about 10c higher though and takes more voltage.

5 out of 5 eggsa Champ

Pros: this thing runs like a champ. have liquid cooling on it and the temp are so low and its overclocked to an easy 4.8ghz and it still runs strong. idles at 1.6ghz when there is no load minimizing power consumption and increasing the life span which i great. i dont regret getting this over waiting for a ivy bridge.

Cons: none.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Fast
Stable
Runs cool
Fast, painless overclocking

Cons: An awesome overclocker... if you are lucky.

Other Thoughts: I purchased one or myself, and a friend purchased one at the same time. I overclocked mine and could not manage to get above 4.3. Though respectable in its own right, I was able t overclock my friends to 4.8. Heat is not an issue.

Guess that is the "Silicon Lottery"

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very fast despite not being an i7. Runs pretty cool at stock settings, but i haven't tried to over clock yet due to having the stock cooler.

Cons: The fan that it comes with is pretty bad. Also the thermal paste that is already applied was not enough for mine. It over heated a few minutes after booting. bought some arctic silver and now it works great.

Other Thoughts: The only reason for the 4/5 rating is the stock cooler. That aside i definitely recommend this cpu for your new rig

5 out of 5 eggsBest gaming CPU for your money

Pros: Much higher frame-rates in games compared to my old Phenom x4 980 @ 4Ghz. Rendering and encoding is much quicker and I can push this baby to about 4.7Ghz on air using a Xigmatek Dark Knight II.

Cons: Runs about 10-12 degrees warmer than my 980 regardless of the clock when playing games or prime95. At stock clocks this CPU runs at around 28-34c idle (depending on ambient temp). At load it can reach 65c @ 4Ghz. At 4.7Ghz my PC becomes a space-heater and load temps surpass 80c.

Looks like demand for this chip is higher than the 3570K, although the 3570K is about 5% faster (give or take) its 10$ cheaper which makes no sense at all.

Other Thoughts: The price of this CPU has gone up here @ the EGG, it's actually more expensive than the 3570K which makes no sense at all. Still the best gaming CPU for your money (if you buy elsewhere of course).
