  • newegg Fully Unlocked Flexibility and Freedom With its fully unlocked multiplier, the Intel Core i5-2500K processor allows full control over the processor core/turbo and DDR3 ratios as well as power and current limits for the best possible overclocking results. It also allows for processor graphics overclocking for improved 3D performance. Intel’s cutting-edge 32nm micro-architecture with 2nd gen Hi-K+ metal gate process delivers the 2nd generation Intel Core processors with higher performance at lower power, thus better overclocking capability. (Intel P67 Express Chipset required for core and memory overclocking, and Intel H67 Express Chipset required for graphics overclocking.)
  • newegg Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 More intelligent, energy-efficient, and dynamic than previous generation, Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 gives you accelerating performance when you need it. It delivers an even greater automatic speed increase by allowing processor and graphics cores to run faster than the base operating frequency for demanding applications if the processor is operating below power, current, and temperature specification limits.
  • newegg Intel Smart Cache Intel Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from faster, more efficient cache subsystem resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
  • newegg Integrated DDR3 Memory Controller Integrated memory controller enables two channels of DDR3 1333 MHz memory, resulting in up to 21 GB/sec memory bandwidth. Plus the memory controller's lower latency and higher memory bandwidth delivers amazing performance for data-intensive applications.
  • newegg Built-in Visuals (with H Chipset) The visual features built into the 2nd generation Intel Core processor family deliver everything you need to enjoy a stunning and seamless visual experience. Intel Quick Sync Video and newly-added Intel Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) make media processing incredibly fast. New built-in Intel HD Graphics delivers discrete 3D graphics performance without the needed cost and power of a discrete graphics card, and features Intel Clear Video Technology than enhances video playback, image quality, and color fidelity for a premium visual experience. What’s more, add another dimension to what you see on your PC with Intel InTRU 3D technology which supports stereoscopic 3D Blu-ray playback in full 1080p resolution over HDMI 1.4.

5 out of 5 eggsLong Lasting Power

Pros: This CPU was a great value when it came out and has really impressed me over the years. I have been running this CPU for over 4 1/2 years at 4.7 GHz on an H80, and it has never once given me an issue. This CPU has always offered me plenty of power for whatever I have asked of it.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: Great CPU, gonna have trouble finding a replacement and I think I will start looking soon as I want to start exploring the world of VR.

5 out of 5 eggsStill going strong

Pros: 3+ years and no hiccups whatsoever. Up until 2 months ago it had the stock Intel cooler, and the temperature was never a problem. Still no need to replace.

Cons: None that I can think of, except it being 2015 maybe it's age.

Other Thoughts: I do some light to moderate PC gaming, and with my old GTX 560, this was able to perform well with Guild Wars 2, DMC: Devil May Cry, and Tomb Raider 2013.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: Best Processor I've ever owned. I've been running for some 4 years at between 4.8ghz and 5.0ghz depending on the time of year and what I'm into. Super, super easy to overclock and cool as ice under load. Never an issue, wish I had 5 more stacked on top of it.

Cons: Not one thing I can think of... Even the stock CPU fan that came with it was awesome, although I moved on to water cooling. I was at 4.8 solid before switching.

Other Thoughts: If Intel made all their processors like this they would go out of business because no one would need a new one.

5 out of 5 eggsRunning strong for about 4 years

Pros: I've purchased this cpu online 11/17/2011 for $199.99 because one of my friends had told me that this cpu is a great i5 to overclock for the price. Also my friend had told me how great Sandybridge type cpus are so I thought "why not".

Another friend of mine had told me how to adjust the voltages in the bios and from there I just did minor tweaks to get the settings just right.
This will be my first time overclocking any cpu. And I have day say, i'm very impressed by the way this cpu handles.

Current specs (as of 4/12/2015):
Have had this cpu overclocked @ 4.8ghz on air cooling.
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo push pull set up.
2 x AeroCool Shark 120mm Blue Fluid Dynamic Bearing Fans @ 83 cfm 26 dba.

I might need to reapply thermal paste on my cpu to the heatsink and replace the stock 120mm fans that came with the case to get increased airflow being that my cpu is currently running at around 57.25C average at 44% usage as what CPUID Hardware Monitors displays.

Cons: none that i can think of.

5 out of 5 eggsDependable

Pros: Incredibly dependable. Have had it air cooled for 3 years at 4.3 and the thing has not blinked once. Plenty of power for even the most demanding programs and games.

Cons: Nothing

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Overclocker

Pros: Overclocking
Stability
Durability

Cons: Price

Other Thoughts: I've had this processor in my system for 3 years. Overclocked it to a stable 4.4 GHz and have been using it at this speed the whole time (Hyper 212+ heatsink). No issues 3 years later.

5 out of 5 eggsamazing cpu

Pros: I've used and abused two of these for over 3 years; both of them running at 4.8 GHz by just adjusting the multiplier to 48, the 212 plus air cooler.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: It is amazing that these are still so strong, I see little reason to upgrade my CPUs 3 years later. At this point, I'm wishing I opted to hyperthreading, but then I saw no use for it. The only reason I'd move on from this would be for more cores and/or hyperthreading.

I'm happy with stable 4.8 GHz, made no attempts to eek out a few hundred more MHz as it runs everything I need, if I reach a point I'm no longer GPU bound; I may push these a bit further.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Performance

Pros: My i5 2500k has been running OC'd at 4.49GHz since November of 2011. It's still going strong.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I really do not see the need for upgrading to any of the newer chips. The 2500k has lasted me this long, without signs of slowing down.

I use the Intel QuickSync for game recording and the performance is unbelievable.
