As the first level of Intel’s Sandy Bridge processor family with the visuals you want built-in, the 2nd generation Intel Core i3 processor offers a fast, responsive, and visually immersive PC experience available to everyone. With the 2nd generation Intel Core i3 processor, you get built-in visuals that offer a rich and exciting set of capabilities for a stunning and seamless visual PC experience with no additional hardware required. Also featured is Intel Hyper-Threading Technology, which enables each processor core to work on two tasks at the same time, giving you smart multitasking performance to move between applications quickly and without hesitation. This is where to start for visibly smart performance.

  • newegg Fully integrated Microarchitecture on 32nm Process The Intel microarchitecture codename Sandy Bridge is an incredible leap in processor integration and manufacturing introduced in the 2nd generation Intel Core processor family. Manufactured entirely on Intel 32nm process technology, Sandy Bridge unifies processor cores, memory controller, last-level cache (LLC), and graphics and media processing. Such tight integration enables a host of performance and efficiency improvements, including fast access by cores and graphics to shared data in the last-level cache to accelerate graphics processing, fewer buses over which data and signaling must travel for faster processing, and more memory bandwidth for the cores to boost system performance.
  • newegg Intel Hyper-Threading Technology (HT Technology) Intel Hyper-Threading Technology delivers thread-level parallelism on each processor resulting in more efficient use of processor resources—higher processing throughput—and improved performance on the multi-threaded software of today and tomorrow.
  • newegg Intel Smart Cache Intel Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from faster, more efficient cache subsystem resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
  • newegg Built-in Visuals The 2nd generation Intel Core processors integrate a suite of technologies built right into the processor that deliver stunning visual experiences. Intel Quick Sync Video is breakthrough hardware acceleration that makes fast work of creating, editing, synchronizing, and sharing your videos at home and on the internet. Built-in Intel HD Graphics enables superior mainstream gaming and 3D experiences – without the need for a discrete graphics card. Enjoy stunning visual quality and color fidelity for spectacular HD playback and immersive web browsing with Intel Clear Video HD Technology, plus the ultimate 3D visual experiences seamlessly from your PC with Intel InTru 3D Technology.
  • newegg Intel Advanced Vector Extensions (Intel AVX) Intel AVX is a new 256 bit instruction set extension to SSE and is designed for applications that are Floating Point (FP) intensive. Intel AVX improves performance due to wider vectors, new extensible syntax, and rich functionality. This results in better management of data and general purpose applications like image, audio/video processing, scientific simulations, financial analytics and 3D modeling and analysis.
  • newegg Intel Virtualization Technology (VT-x) Increasing manageability, security, and flexibility in IT environments, virtualization technologies like hardware-assisted Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) combined with software-based virtualization solutions provide maximum system utilization by consolidating multiple environments into a single server or PC. By abstracting the software away from the underlying hardware, a world of new usage models opens up that reduce costs, increase management efficiency, strengthen security, while making your computing infrastructure more resilient in the event of a disaster.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfectly Adequate i3 2120

Pros: Ran this processor for over a year until I was able to replace it with an Ivy Bridge quad-core. It ran all of my applications and games perfectly adequately. 1920x1080 video decoded perfectly using software decoding, games ran smooth.

It has been handed down into new computers twice now and continues to run perfectly.

Rock solid for a budget processor!

Cons: Weak integrated video.
Intel's stock coolers are a joke.
A LOT of force had to be exerted to clamp down the processor in it's socket.

Other Thoughts: Make sure to turn off the integrated video in your bios right away if you have a discrete video card.
Replace the stock heatsink as soon as possible.

5 out of 5 eggsi3 2120

Pros: Great budget gaming CPU. I play Skyrim, Assassins Creed 4, DayZ and Bioshock Infinite and this processor keeps me close to 60fps in all of them with my GTX 760. Great for PCSX2, runs Shadow of the Colossus (the most demanding game for the PS2 emulator) without a problem. Definitely the best ~$125 processor when I bought this in July 2012.

Cons: Not a quadcore. No overclocking options. Better 3rd/4th generation i3s out now.

Other Thoughts: Has lasted me a year and a half without any hiccups at all. Plan on upgrading to an i7 for my gaming rig soon and throwing this CPU into a low wattage server/HTPC.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as intended

Pros: - Fast
- Good price
- Everything as advertised

Cons: - None

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my parents' computer build. I wanted something cheap, but which, when paired with a SSD, would give them a speedy boot up.

Not much else to be said, really. The product arrived quickly and has worked as advertised. It's certainly an improvement in every way over the 6-year-old core we had previously. Haven't had any flaws yet and I'm certainly happy with it.

4 out of 5 eggsAll the essentials.

Pros: Excellent power consumption. Decent multitasking capability. Acceptable graphics for basic gaming.

Cons: Second-generation cannot use modern busses such as PCIe 3.0 to the best of their capabilities. Power consumption and speed atre not as good as a more modern device. HD Graphics 2000 leaves much to be desired with video performance beyond basic use.

Other Thoughts: FOr mom's web browser or a business computer, you could do *much* worse than this little guy. If you're not looking for high-end powerhouse, this guy will be moderately future-proof. If you can afford it, consider spending a little extra for a third-generation or better.

5 out of 5 eggsI3-2120, 3.3GHz, LGA 1155

Pros: It works very fast and comparable to an I7 quadcore. But, it needs an SSD to complement its speed in a 32-bit Win7, as it seem to me.

Cons: It's only an I3 (dual-core) and it will not be on the same level of an I7 quadcore.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very fast and handles all my games incredibly well

Cons: May have to be replaced with a bigger quad core since the minimum of games seems to be shifting in that direction.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Daily Driver

Pros: I purchased this processor to build a daily driver for the family - one that would allow for web surfing, e-mail, MS Office and the occasional game. This chip handles all of it with ease. For a dual core, it is still very fast.

Cons: None
