As the first level of Intel’s Sandy Bridge processor family with the visuals you want built-in, the 2nd generation Intel Core i3 processor offers a fast, responsive, and visually immersive PC experience available to everyone. With the 2nd generation Intel Core i3 processor, you get built-in visuals that offer a rich and exciting set of capabilities for a stunning and seamless visual PC experience with no additional hardware required. Also featured is Intel Hyper-Threading Technology, which enables each processor core to work on two tasks at the same time, giving you smart multitasking performance to move between applications quickly and without hesitation. This is where to start for visibly smart performance.

  • newegg Fully integrated Microarchitecture on 32nm Process The Intel microarchitecture codename Sandy Bridge is an incredible leap in processor integration and manufacturing introduced in the 2nd generation Intel Core processor family. Manufactured entirely on Intel 32nm process technology, Sandy Bridge unifies processor cores, memory controller, last-level cache (LLC), and graphics and media processing. Such tight integration enables a host of performance and efficiency improvements, including fast access by cores and graphics to shared data in the last-level cache to accelerate graphics processing, fewer buses over which data and signaling must travel for faster processing, and more memory bandwidth for the cores to boost system performance.
  • newegg Intel Hyper-Threading Technology (HT Technology) Intel Hyper-Threading Technology delivers thread-level parallelism on each processor resulting in more efficient use of processor resources—higher processing throughput—and improved performance on the multi-threaded software of today and tomorrow.
  • newegg Intel Smart Cache Intel Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from faster, more efficient cache subsystem resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
  • newegg Built-in Visuals The 2nd generation Intel Core processors integrate a suite of technologies built right into the processor that deliver stunning visual experiences. Intel Quick Sync Video is breakthrough hardware acceleration that makes fast work of creating, editing, synchronizing, and sharing your videos at home and on the internet. Built-in Intel HD Graphics enables superior mainstream gaming and 3D experiences – without the need for a discrete graphics card. Enjoy stunning visual quality and color fidelity for spectacular HD playback and immersive web browsing with Intel Clear Video HD Technology, plus the ultimate 3D visual experiences seamlessly from your PC with Intel InTru 3D Technology.
  • newegg Intel Advanced Vector Extensions (Intel AVX) Intel AVX is a new 256 bit instruction set extension to SSE and is designed for applications that are Floating Point (FP) intensive. Intel AVX improves performance due to wider vectors, new extensible syntax, and rich functionality. This results in better management of data and general purpose applications like image, audio/video processing, scientific simulations, financial analytics and 3D modeling and analysis.
  • newegg Intel Virtualization Technology (VT-x) Increasing manageability, security, and flexibility in IT environments, virtualization technologies like hardware-assisted Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) combined with software-based virtualization solutions provide maximum system utilization by consolidating multiple environments into a single server or PC. By abstracting the software away from the underlying hardware, a world of new usage models opens up that reduce costs, increase management efficiency, strengthen security, while making your computing infrastructure more resilient in the event of a disaster.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat performer for the price

Pros: Great packaging for the price. Easy to overclock and stable. Great processor for your everyday needs and then some. Good for gaming too.

Cons: Nothing. Stock heatsink is okay, it's decent for normal use. For overclocking, it's questionable at best. Then again, never use the supplied stock heatsink so I can't really say anything bad about them.

Other Thoughts: I juggle between AMD and Intel a lot and neither one has failed or disappointed me. AMD and Intel both have their pros and cons, but overall experience are great! You will not be disappointed with this and you can play most new games with as long you have a decent GPU.

5 out of 5 eggsintegrated graphics saves money on cheap build

Pros: Integrated graphics save on having to buy a video card for a cheaper build. Bought this with a inexpensive mobo, 120gb ssd and a few other little gadgets for less than 400 bucks... just a cheap internet browsing pc that can play some games... good buy

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsNice Performer

Pros: -First off, it’s faster than it has any right to be. Hyperthreading makes this appear to the OS to be a quad core and it performs on par with a Q6600, until you put it under load.
-Under load this processor can handle games, I am talking Crysis2, BF3, Starcraft 2, Tombraider, Bioshock- no problems. Runs cool with an Antec H20 60, 17-22 normal, 28-38 under load. As long as you have a good GPU along with.

Cons: -Not a quad core. Hyperthreading can only do so much. When you start editing video or rendering 3d environments you’re going to bottleneck. If you want to do those things buy an i5.

Other Thoughts: This is a perfect stair step CPU to handle your system until you can put out the money for an i5/i7. If all you are doing is playing DVD's and surfing, you’re good.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat budget processor

Pros: Runs all my games very fast, loads everything quick, and i have never had any overheating problems

Cons: The fan was the biggest pain to get in to my mobo. Those plastic pins would always bend and i would then have to take out the WHOLE fan to fix the one pin. You would be better off using an aftermarket cooler if you have low patience.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic for budget game build

Pros: Handles anything and everything like a boss. Starcraft 2 for breakfast, 50+tabs on chrome for lunch, a slab of Skyrim for dinner and a big heaping bowl of battlefield 3 for desert.
Typically runs very cool, idles around 30-40C with stock fan in an old comaq microatx tower with only one 90mm rear fan. Low power use makes for a great cpu, at a price you just have to love.

Cons: Okay, battlefield 3 and this cpu work fine, IF you don't mind the CPU reaching 100C levels after a good long session of multiplayer.
Yeah, 100C with the stock cooler. Hopefully newer versions of this cpu are better able to distribute the load, but the sad truth is this CPU is just not made for the beefy stuff.

Other Thoughts: I can't overclock on my motherboard, so I can't tell you how good a cpu this is for that.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid!

Pros: Speeds are good for just about anything done with the computer and it runs cooler than my i7. Stock heatsink/fan, as usual, are great even if they're stock.

Cons: Thermal paste, if you can call it that, was suspect. I removed the stock thermal paste and applied Arctic Silver. Processor under normal load is around 25C and I only ever saw it get to 36C under heavy use. This was not for a gaming machine, however.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend Arctic Silver for any processor. Especially when using the stock heatsink/fan. The i3 runs much cooler than the i7, as is, but why risk it when you can remove the stock thermal paste with rubbing alcohol and a paper towel and apply a smooth layer of exceptional thermal paste to replace it?
