As the first level of Intel’s Sandy Bridge processor family with the visuals you want built-in, the 2nd generation Intel Core i3 processor offers a fast, responsive, and visually immersive PC experience available to everyone. With the 2nd generation Intel Core i3 processor, you get built-in visuals that offer a rich and exciting set of capabilities for a stunning and seamless visual PC experience with no additional hardware required. Also featured is Intel Hyper-Threading Technology, which enables each processor core to work on two tasks at the same time, giving you smart multitasking performance to move between applications quickly and without hesitation. This is where to start for visibly smart performance.

  • newegg Fully integrated Microarchitecture on 32nm Process The Intel microarchitecture codename Sandy Bridge is an incredible leap in processor integration and manufacturing introduced in the 2nd generation Intel Core processor family. Manufactured entirely on Intel 32nm process technology, Sandy Bridge unifies processor cores, memory controller, last-level cache (LLC), and graphics and media processing. Such tight integration enables a host of performance and efficiency improvements, including fast access by cores and graphics to shared data in the last-level cache to accelerate graphics processing, fewer buses over which data and signaling must travel for faster processing, and more memory bandwidth for the cores to boost system performance.
  • newegg Intel Hyper-Threading Technology (HT Technology) Intel Hyper-Threading Technology delivers thread-level parallelism on each processor resulting in more efficient use of processor resources—higher processing throughput—and improved performance on the multi-threaded software of today and tomorrow.
  • newegg Intel Smart Cache Intel Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from faster, more efficient cache subsystem resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
  • newegg Built-in Visuals The 2nd generation Intel Core i processors integrate a suite of technologies built right into the processor that deliver stunning visual experiences. Intel Quick Sync Video is breakthrough hardware acceleration that makes fast work of creating, editing, synchronizing, and sharing your videos at home and on the internet. Built-in Intel HD Graphics enables superior mainstream gaming and 3D experiences – without the need for a discrete graphics card. Enjoy stunning visual quality and color fidelity for spectacular HD playback and immersive web browsing with Intel Clear Video HD Technology, plus the ultimate 3D visual experiences seamlessly from your PC with Intel InTru 3D Technology.
  • newegg Intel Advanced Vector Extensions (Intel AVX) Intel AVX is a new 256 bit instruction set extension to SSE and is designed for applications that are Floating Point (FP) intensive. Intel AVX improves performance due to wider vectors, new extensible syntax, and rich functionality. This results in better management of data and general purpose applications like image, audio/video processing, scientific simulations, financial analytics and 3D modeling and analysis.
  • newegg Intel Virtualization Technology (VT-x) Increasing manageability, security, and flexibility in IT environments, virtualization technologies like hardware-assisted Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) combined with software-based virtualization solutions provide maximum system utilization by consolidating multiple environments into a single server or PC. By abstracting the software away from the underlying hardware, a world of new usage models opens up that reduce costs, increase management efficiency, strengthen security, while making your computing infrastructure more resilient in the event of a disaster.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's a CPU

Pros: Works fine, no defects out of the box.
works at advertised speeds, and doesn't display anything to contradict its advertisement,

Cons: It didn't magically turn into an i7-3770k overnight. Darn.

Other Thoughts: Its a great lower-end intel CPU.

3 out of 5 eggsEh.

Pros: 3.4 GHz for a Cheap Price and has on-board graphics to save you some money.

Cons: Has odd frame dips with the integrated graphics. I know i3's are not exactly meant for gaming but I am on somewhat of a budget. I have an Intel Core i3 2120 and that works just fine with no frame dips. Not sure if its the processor or the graphics but I assume that its the one causing the frame dips.

Other Thoughts: Like I said the price is good. If you are on a budget I suggest going for a different i3.

4 out of 5 eggsFast processor, noisy HSF, adequate video performance

Pros: It does what it's supposed to do. Was the fastest i3 processor available.

Cons: Heatsink fan not the quietest. Might be shopping for something aftermarket very soon. Graphics performance is rather low but not a surprise. Windows Experience Index is 4.5.

Other Thoughts: Overall happy with my choice of this processor.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat, unless...

Pros: This is the "darling" of Intel's budget CPU's. x86 performance is borderline-awesome with very low power consumption. It's hard to believe this much speed can be wrought out of a dual-core CPU.
Great upgrade path to Ivy Bridge and i5/i7's in general.

Cons: The graphics paired with it are abysmal - they need to be several times faster to accompany this CPU adequately. It must be used with an add-in card if you're going to game. And AMD's 4-core FX and Trinity processors can typically outrun it in heavily multi-threaded applications for a lower price (and the Trinity's have the included graphics that are far superior).

Other Thoughts: It's a great CPU but ultimately imbalanced. Only for pairing with an external graphics card unless you're just not going to game at all. If you want gaming on the cheap, AMD's Trinity is better performance per dollar. If money doesn't matter so much, I don't know why you just wouldn't go i5 to begin with.
This is one of those awkward CPU's that only makes sense for office PCs that need to be really quick for the cheapest money possible.

3 out of 5 eggsCheap

Pros: Got a good buy on Z68 so i thought this would be fast 3.4 but the chip is locked can't O.C. I put my 2500 in the board and it went to 3.8 no problem.

Cons: Even at 10% it still not worth it seems slow to me not worth putting all that money into this chip.with locked mult. .It's a good chip but not at this price.

Other Thoughts: All the Sandy's are being put to pasture there going to stop making them soon.Get a 2500k when the prices drop a very good buy.

3 out of 5 eggsChanged mind

Pros: 1. Cheap
2. Dual-core

Cons: 1. Cheap
2. Dual-core

Other Thoughts: I just bought this but changed my mind LOL I decided to buy the most expensive model and save myself upgrade bills later. It's good but man I need something faster for my GTX 670 sorry......... also the i3-3220 is the same price and better so I should've gotten that instead if I'd stuck with i3's. Anyways bye

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Fast, picks up a better signal than my old laptop did in the same place

Cons: Not really a con, but the software it comes with isn't very good

Other Thoughts: Faster Internet connection through wireless than my other desktop with and Ethernet connection

Pros: Using it for gaming like SWTOR and it runs smothly.

Cons: None really.

Other Thoughts: I should have went for the i5 instead.

5 out of 5 eggsA+ For Business Machines

Pros: 65W TDP runs cool, even with the standard Intel cooler.
Two cores, four threads is entirely sufficient for office machines. The performance is superb.
The HD-2000 graphics are sharp and snappy for 2D biz apps.

Cons: Price, as always.

Other Thoughts: I have built five business machines using this processor, the Asus P8Z68V-LE board, and G.Skill DDR3 memory. The recent 3808 BIOS release solves the Auto voltage problem at 1.65v instead of the normal 1.5v. Memory stability is significantly improved by this BIOS release.
