Crush your enemies, climb the tower of paperwork, or do both at the same time. Intel's Core 2 Quad Q9650 not only makes it possible, it makes it easy. The Core 2 Quad Q9650 has quad cores that run at 3.0GHz and shares 12MB of L2 cache.
Quad cores means true multi-tasking and multi-threading. Tasks or threads get their own core; no more sharing one core and set of clock cycles. This lets you turn your system into the ultimate home entertainment center PC. One core handles the usual action on your operating system, while the second can play a DVD on the TV, the third download a file from internet, and the fourth one sends audio to the kids in another room with no lags or stutters. All this is made easier with Intel’s advanced Digital Media Boost.
The 45nm Intel Core 2 Quad processor is armed Intel HD Boost, which implementing new Intel Streaming SIMD Extension 4.1 (Intel SSE4.1) instructions for fast high definition video editing and encoding, enhance the multimedia performance.

Great processor
- Pros: Fast, easy to OC, SSE 4.1 and all the other goodies.
- Cons: Overpriced due to i7. Should drop the price. Locked multi at 9.
- Other Thoughts: To Filezz this and the Q6600 have the same multi of 9. There is no difference. This processor is very fast, but not the best for the money. The cheapest i7 and the midrange one both are comparably priced and outperform this one. The only reason to buy one of these is because you have opted for a DDR2 machine. The irony is that other than RAM you would not pay more to build a new i7 machine. Intel needs to drop the price on these processors as they are now overpriced based on i7 performance IMO.
Amazing CPU
- Pros: As the reviewer below me said,
-3.0GHz Stock -9x Multiplier -E0 Stepping -Runs cool -GREAT overclocker
- Cons: Absolutely NONE so far.
- Other Thoughts: I upgraded to this Q9650 from my old Q9450. I have an EVGA 780i Motherboard. I couldn't get my Q9450 100% stable at 3.6GHz; even with up to 1.4 Vcore! My new Q9650 hit 3.6 easy on STOCK VOLTAGE and is now 100% stable at 4.0GHz with only 1.28 Vcore! This CPU is Amazing! I highly reccomend it. Without a doubt, I am very pleased with this purchase.

Nice!
- Pros: Fast!
- Cons: None - except the price.
I've seen it $30 cheaper elsewhere but I trust NewEgg so it was worth the extra cost for peace of mind and that I generally get NewEgg purchases delivered the next day with standard shipping.
- Other Thoughts: I needlessly worried that I'd have to buy a bigger heatsink/fan and there is no room for anything wider than the stock HP heatsink assy. This CPU idles at 41C (old Q6700 idled at 32C). Highest temp is 56C running COD-WaW. Not a hardcore gamer so I heve no need/intention to overclock.
Fast!
- Pros: Ive been using this cpu since summer 09. Super fast, never had any issues. Completely blew my pentium D 840 3.0 out of the water.
- Cons: None
Yes.
- Pros: Amazing.
- Cons: Side effects include, but are not limited to: self-awareness of machine resulting in near-apocalyptic events not dissimilar to those in Terminator or iRobot.
- Other Thoughts: Crucial Ballistix Tracer is finicky and a waste of money, even if it is really really fast.

Highlights
 |
Intel Core 2 Quad-core Processor With four processing cores, the multitasking monster Quad-Core Intel Core 2 processor delivers fourfold the performance on highly-threaded applications, taking your desktop PC experience into a completely new realm of mega power. The powerful processor delivers serious performance on the ultra-demanding games of today and tomorrow. The innovative 45nm quad-core technology optimizes thermal performance for reduced power consumption and noise.
|
 |
Intel Advanced Smart Cache Intel Advanced Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared L2 cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from fast L2 cache, resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
|
 |
Intel Wide Dynamic Execution With Intel Wide Dynamic Execution, each of the four cores can complete up to four full instructions simultaneously, improves execution speed and efficiency, delivering more instructions per clock cycle.
|
 |
Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas in memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.
|
 |
Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) With Intel VT, one hardware platform functions as multiple "virtual" platforms. For business, Intel VT offers improved manageability, limiting downtime and maintaining worker productivity by isolating computing activities into separate partitions. In the home, Intel VT allows creating unique user environments for multiple family members using the same platform simultaneously.
