Crush your enemies, climb the tower of paperwork -- or do both at the same time. Intel's Core 2 Quad Q9400 not only makes it possible, it makes it easy. The Core 2 Quad Q9400 has four cores that run at 2.66GHz and shares 6MB of L2 cache.
Quad cores means true multi-tasking and multi-threading. Tasks or threads get their own core; no more sharing one core and set of clock cycles. This lets you turn your system into the ultimate home entertainment center PC. One core handles the usual action on your operating system, while the second can play a DVD on the TV, the third download a file from internet, and the fourth one sends audio to the kids in another room with no lags or stutters. All this is made easier with Intel’s advanced Digital Media Boost.
The 45nm Intel Core 2 Quad processor is armed Intel HD Boost, which implementing new Intel Streaming SIMD Extension 4.1 (Intel SSE4.1) instructions for fast high definition video editing and encoding, enhance the multimedia performance.

Powerful, Yet Cheap (For a Quad-Core)
- Pros: It's a quad-core processor, with a 1333 FSB, at 2.66 GHz, for $274.99. For five bucks, you step up from a Q9300 to this, as this is a bit faster, and for overclockers, the multiplier is higher than on the Q9300 (but lower than the Q6600's).
I'm no overclocker, so this was perfect. I was lucky I kept checking components before I bought my gaming computer - this came out one or two days before I ordered, and was revealed stealthily - no noise, no announcements. I was about to go for the Q9300.
- Cons: It's not at 3.2 GHz. But, I didn't pay the outrageous price for something that awesome.
- Other Thoughts: This, along with 4GB DDR3 1333 RAM and a Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 X2, really helps run Crysis and other games that can utilize multiple cores (World In Conflict), well.
IT BURNS!!!
- Pros: Super fast. Only 6MB of L2 Cache, but no sign of real problems due to this. Coupled with a decent motherboard (780i), and a great GPU (GTX 280) and it screams.
- Cons: None yet
- Other Thoughts: Can run Crysis with all settings on ultra at 1650 x 1050 at 36 fps avg.

not very overclockable
- Pros: 1. works well
2. runs all my games
- Cons: harder to overclock than the dual cores
Nice and stable yawn
- Pros: The Q9400 is easy to install and as long as you leave it alone you do not have any problems, notas fast as I would have thought over the @66600. with a little extra power is ok.
- Cons: I have bag storiess about overclocking. I just wanted to go to 2800, a small increase Forget if your ram goes to it 1.3337 ot locks up time after time. thats my only problem all the sunchine and I don't have a chance.
Intel Core2 Quad Q9400 2.66GHz
- Pros: Works like a charm, no issues at all whatsoever.
- Cons: Yet...
- Other Thoughts: It's from Intel. What did you expect?

Highlights
 |
Intel Core 2 Quad-core Processor With four processing cores, the multitasking monster Quad-Core Intel Core 2 processor delivers fourfold the performance on highly-threaded applications, taking your desktop PC experience into a completely new realm of mega power. The powerful processor delivers serious performance on the ultra-demanding games of today and tomorrow. The innovative 45nm quad-core technology optimizes thermal performance for reduced power consumption and noise.
|
 |
Intel Advanced Smart Cache Intel Advanced Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared L2 cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from fast L2 cache, resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
|
 |
Intel Wide Dynamic Execution With Intel Wide Dynamic Execution, each of the four cores can complete up to four full instructions simultaneously, improves execution speed and efficiency, delivering more instructions per clock cycle.
|
 |
Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas in memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.
|
 |
Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) With Intel VT, one hardware platform functions as multiple "virtual" platforms. For business, Intel VT offers improved manageability, limiting downtime and maintaining worker productivity by isolating computing activities into separate partitions. In the home, Intel VT allows creating unique user environments for multiple family members using the same platform simultaneously.
