5 out of 5 eggsIt's a beast!

Pros: Fast
Stable
Great overclocking

Cons: Only supports 800/1066 memmory

Other Thoughts: To Mr NightHawk tech level 5 - if you read the spec sheet on this processor it reads that the memmory type supported is DDR3 800/1066.
I bought this processor in February of 2009. It has been rock solid for me. I purchased it with a EVGA E758 and a 6GB DDR3 1333/1600 Tripple Channel Kit.
No matter what changes I make in the Bios, I can not get my memory to clock over 1066. I have set it to run at 1333 and it either won't POST or it reverts back to 1066. It was very frustrating when I first put my computer together and I couldn't get my memory to run at it's stamped speed. I went to every forum I could find and EVERYONE was having the same problem. I'm not sure what Mr NightHawk is doing differently, but maybe he should check to make sure he, in fact, has THIS proccessor (BX80601920) and that he is REALLY running at the freq he thinks he is. a couple weeks ago I purchased another 6GB DDR3 1333/1600 Tripple channel kit since NewEgg still sells the one I originally bought and my system is now running 12GB at 1066.
That's my only gripe with this processor. I overclocked it at 3.8 and it ran pretty solid with a few glitches so I clocked it down to 3.4 and have been running it solid at the freq since. I've had this CPU for 4 years now and i'm going to run it into the grave. I have no need for anything else, it still runs everything I throw at it great.
To Mr NightHawk... if you could verify that if you, in fact, have this processor (BX80601920) and are running your mem freq above 1066, would you please enlighten the rest of us as to what BIOS changes you made to get that freq? I would love to be able to run my memory at 1600~ thanks!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: It has lasted me 4+ years and still going strong like the first day. I have had it overclocked to 3.6 since day 1.

Cons: Can't overclock it any higher, it just crashes. Not due to temps.

5 out of 5 eggsBought on Sept 28th 2009

Pros: Wow I mean really this processor is a fine example of Intel's craftsmanship. Like the title say's I bought this processor back on Sept. 28th, 2009 along with an EVGA E760 Classified motherboard and 6GB of G-Skill Trident 2133MHz DDR3. Guess what happened??? Almost 3.5 years later and still running strong just like the first day I fired it up. I have had this processor running at 4GHz since it was booted from day one and it has never failed me. I had this running in 2009 in Tri-SLI with 3 GTX275s and then later on added a 9800GT for PhysX and it just dominated games and benchmarks. I did end up passing this system on to my wife when I built my new 2011 socket i7 3930K system, but she still uses this rig on a daily basis for her work. I also ended up switching out the 6GB kit for 24GBs DDR3 1600MHz Corsair Vengeance and swapping out the GTX275s for a Sapphire HD7970. Still runs strong, overclocked, and memory to spec 1600MHz. This processor is an absolute killer and a very strong Quad Core. Read other thoughts

Cons: After 3.5 years None

Other Thoughts: Ok this is where I had to sort a few things being said by others about this CPU. To the guy with a tech level 4 and yet claims this CPU won't run memory past 800/1066MHz, I say maybe your tech level isn't a 4 after all??? I have ran 6GB DDR3 2133MHz on this CPU overclocked @ 4GHz for 2.5 years and then replaced that with 24GB 1600MHz DDR3 Corsair Vengeance which also has been running at spec for 1 year, so I'm not sure if you're using some off brand cheap no name ram or if you just don't know how to config your BIOS, but maybe start their because maybe and this is just coming from a tech level 5, maybe it's your memory or bad BIOS settings as to why it can't cut it past 800/1066Mhz. Also if you're using a program like say CPU-Z to check your memory speed you have to remember that CPU-Z shows DRAM frequency in half which you have to multiple that number by 2, so for example if CPU-Z displays your memory as 1066.7 and you know you bought 2133MHz memory then what would you guess your memory is running at??? That's right 2133.4MHz because 1066.7x2=2133.4, but I'm doubting you even know what I'm talking about. Now to the guy who claims this isn't any faster then a Phenom II 965...Man I love you AMD fanboys. This processor completely blows the Phenom II 965 out of the water. Sure maybe you see no difference when opening notepad or when you use your MS Paint program, but try something a little bit harder like Adobe PS, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Premier, Adobe Flash, CAD or maybe like I use to do open up all these programs and work in them with your Phenom II 965 and see how well that works out for you. It just amazes me how people come in here to an Intel product that own an AMD and make claims like it's no faster then my AMD, well try something a little bit harder then MS Word.

5 out of 5 eggsSince 2009!!!!!

Pros: 1. Owned this since 2009 and still going strong!
2. Very reliable
3. Very fast
4. Simple overclock
5. Still to this day WAY faster than most the current CPU's out there when it's overclocked :)

Cons: 1. I personally hated the stock HS but that is in no way worth deducting an Egg as it isn't Newegg's fault.
2. None really :) :)
3. Newegg stopped selling them as Intel no longer makes them or any x58 cpu which is sad :( These things are power houses.

Other Thoughts: I have had this CPU overclocked between 3.8GHz and 4.2GHz since I have owned this back in 2009 and have never had an issue yet. Simply amazing the performance I still get out of this.

I really want to upgrade but I cannot find a reason to do it as my CPU is faster than most still :) When I revert back to the stock 2.66GHz I notice a major slowdown but when I OC it is amazing. I have it Water cooled so it never gets real hot.

I will run this CPU till it decides to die then I might search around for another one on that VERY well known website that starts with an E and ends with a Y. as they are getting very hard to find as the days go by or I just might buy another new gen i7.

Basically if you can find one of these for a good price then get it as you can OC the living cow dung out of it if you know what you are doing :) :) and they are very reliable as long as you have the proper cooling and setup for it.

It still plows through FarCry 3, BF3, Metro 2033, Assassins Creed 3, GuildWars 2, RIFT, and all the other CPU intense titles.

As far as I am concerned this is one of the best CPU's I have ever owned.

5 out of 5 eggsBeast

Pros: Processor runs rock solid, I have my D0 stepping runing at 4.2 stable. Using a Antec Kuhler 920 to keep them temps down. This processor finally made me give up on my old Opty 160(which kicked *** in it's day).

To the person that stated this processor isn't stable with memory past 1066, that's a complete lie. I too have the Asus p6t deluxe and am running G.Skill 12 gb pc 1300 overclocked to pc 1600(800 mhz).
Go into bios, adjust to X.M.P profile and use good memory

Cons: No way

Other Thoughts: You can pick these up cheap now on the bay, I suggest doing so, great processor

5 out of 5 eggsStill going strong

Pros: Bought this little beast over 4 years ago, and it's still killing it. I haven't overclocked it, but at the same time I feel like I haven't really had to. It still handles every game I throw at it and constructs panoramas in Photoshop from 22MP source files in a breeze.

Cons: None come to mind.

5 out of 5 eggsI7-920. a generational step

Pros: great speed, and sheer power.

Cons: Very pricey. bad price for performance compared to a Phenom II 965 which keeps neck close to it in most applications. be aware of price.

5 out of 5 eggsFlawless

Pros: Cheapest and probably best bang for buck against it's higher rated clock siblings, can be pushed to 4GHZ mark if needed.

Cons: Short lived model range, kind of hard to find now.

5 out of 5 eggsImpressive

Pros: Bought this processor May 12, 2009. After a bit of fiddling to find the best OC, I settled on 3.8 GHz and have been there ever since. Runs solid as a rock, no issues whatsoever with 3.5 years of use. I could probably push the clock higher as the Zalman cooler is superb and I have a very well ventilated case, but honestly I don't see the need. I was originally planning on upgrading with Sandy Bridge, but here we are after the release of Ivy Bridge and I still don't feel any serious motivation to upgrade. The increased OC headroom and decreased power usage might be nice, but I'm starting to think I'll stick with this until they release something in the same price range that's at least 6 core, hopefully 8. Until then, I just haven't run into the limits of this processor and I'm a relatively heavy gamer.

Cons: Would be nice to feel like I needed to upgrade so I could get a motherboard with SATA 6, USB 3, and PCI-E x16 2.0 but this darn processor is just so good I can't justify it!
It is sort of lame that LGA 1366 was only supported for a couple generations of Intel processors, but that's not really the processor's fault.

Other Thoughts: The one area where I've run into what might be processor based bottleneck is playing Starcraft 2, cheating to allow my population limit to 600 then storming a place with heavy explosions and other effects, but that could just as easily be a bottleneck from my GTX 460. I've already upgraded video cards once, and I think I'll go through another generation before I get past the useful life of this processor.
