Crush your enemies, climb the tower of paperwork -- or do both at the same time. Intel's Core 2 Quad Q9550S not only makes it possible, it makes it easy. The Core 2 Quad Q9550S has four cores that run at 2.83GHz and shares 12MB of L2 cache.

Quad cores means true multi-tasking and multi-threading. Tasks or threads get their own core; no more sharing one core and set of clock cycles. This lets you turn your system into the ultimate home entertainment center PC. One core handles the usual action on your operating system, while the second can play a DVD on the TV, the third download a file from internet, and the fourth one sends audio to the kids in another room with no lags or stutters. All this is made easier with Intel’s advanced Digital Media Boost.

The 45nm Intel Core 2 Quad processor is armed with Intel HD Boost, which implements new Intel Streaming SIMD Extension 4.1 (Intel SSE4.1) instructions for fast high definition video editing and encoding, enhance the multimedia performance.

  • newegg Intel Core 2 Quad-core Processor With four processing cores, the multitasking monster Quad-Core Intel Core 2 processor delivers fourfold the performance on highly-threaded applications, taking your desktop PC experience into a completely new realm of mega power. The powerful processor delivers serious performance on the ultra-demanding games of today and tomorrow. The innovative 45nm quad-core technology optimizes thermal performance for reduced power consumption and noise.
  • newegg Intel Advanced Smart Cache Intel Advanced Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared L2 cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from fast L2 cache, resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
  • newegg Intel Wide Dynamic Execution With Intel Wide Dynamic Execution, each of the four cores can complete up to four full instructions simultaneously, improves execution speed and efficiency, delivering more instructions per clock cycle.
  • newegg Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas in memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.
  • newegg Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) With Intel VT, one hardware platform functions as multiple "virtual" platforms. For business, Intel VT offers improved manageability, limiting downtime and maintaining worker productivity by isolating computing activities into separate partitions. In the home, Intel VT allows creating unique user environments for multiple family members using the same platform simultaneously.

5 out of 5 eggs2013 and it's still going strong!

Pros: Replaced my Wolfsdale E8500 with this, been great for years and still playing games on highest settings. OC'd to 3.6Ghz.

Cons: Stuff changes to fast with intel and this is a good example. This CPU still does a great job and plays everything on highest setting with no problems.

3 out of 5 eggsPoorly packed

Pros: Shipped and arrived fast. It does not appear to be damaged.

Cons: the 3x4x4.5 inch retail processor box was shipped inside of an 12x9x6 inch box without any packing material at all inside of it. The processor bounced around loose inside of this box during shipping..

Other Thoughts: First time I've received something from newegg with no attempt to pack it properly.

5 out of 5 eggsQ9550S Low power great performance.

Pros: I run a Linux server in my house, and I try to be as efficient as possible to lower the cost of ownership. Before I had a core 2 duo, after upgrading my server used around 55 watts on average, now it is down to 40 watts witch equates to about $35 dollars a year in energy costs. The chip is extremely fast, and I own a i7 980x.

Cons: It is pricey, but I am pleased with the results.

5 out of 5 eggswho needs a i7

Pros: i got this proc over a yr ago and still running great. i have since oc'd this up to as far as 4.2 Ghz per core and its very solid even at 3.8Ghz. this thing generally does keep up with a couple of my friends i7 machines. so all in all very good for the price and with e0 stepping its all that much nicer.

Cons: the price on newegg isn't cheap neither is tiger but i got mine for 240 last year and i see its only jumped up in price.

Other Thoughts: very good proc but if you don't want this i would recommend a i7 920 if not then get this one. its a very fast processor and mine destoys amd phenoms all day.

1 out of 5 eggsFrustrated...

Pros: Very fast for an upgrade from a dual-core.

Cons: It didn't manage to work for more than 20 minutes or so before the computer restarted. I had to return it. Maybe AMD might be a better choice!

Other Thoughts: I was very excited about upgrading my video editing machine to a quad core from a dual core. After putting the machine back together with the supplied Intel fan, I started the machine. I was relieved that it came up fine, and worked much faster. But after running it for about 30 minutes or so, the screen went black and it started rebooting.

I went online and got a CPU temperature utility so that I could monitor the temperature while I was working. I wondered if the heatsink wasn't making enough contact with the CPU. But, the temps looked fine. I tried installing another, larger heatsink anyway. I was hoping to make this CPU work. It still failed. In frustration, I again disassembled the computer and replaced the processor with my old dual core. I ran it for about 2 hours, with not issues and decided that I had received a defective CPU. After a web search, it seemed that others had issues with this very same model CPU. I called NewEgg to return it and get a store credit.

5 out of 5 eggsLove Intel, getting mad at newegg.

Pros: Went with this processor and an USB 3.0 motherboard with DDR3 instead of upgrading to a newer socket after looking at head-spinning reviews of having a huge L2 cache. THis has 4MB more than most of the tests ive seen!

Cons: Newegg shipped this in a huge box with NO PADDING AT ALL inside. It had twelve inches by nine inches by five inches of travel on 3 axis.

I sure hope it works.

What's wrong with you, newegg?

Other Thoughts: Been a loyal customer since 2001 or so. Placed mearly 30k in orders for me and others since then. THis had better not be the start of a new trend of saving three cents on a $800 order by not putting in packing peanuts or air bags.
