Pros: This is an amazingly fast chip. The combination of Hyperthreading and a faster Turbo Boost makes this chip faster than the Core i7 920 in most benchmarks. The differences are especially stark single-threaded applications because the 860 regularly runs at 3.33 Ghz in single-threaded apps yielding a 15-20% increase over non-turbo mode. That means - for regular desktop and game usage- this chip will crush the 920 since most apps are at most optimized for dual-core setups. In addition, 1156 socket motherboards are $50-100 cheaper than 1366 motherboards.
I upgraded from a Core 2 Duo 2.0 Ghz chip and the difference is incredible. I've included some benchmarks below.
The Core i7 is highly efficient at video encoding/decoding compared to C2 Duo/Quad chips. See benchmarks below.
Excellent power efficiency. Usually runs at 1.2-1.33 ghz with 2 cores disabled on idle. Power usage only slightly higher than some Core 2 Duos. Uses 20-30W less system-wide on idle than a i7 920, and more at lo

Great Deal, a bit over priced

Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
Pros: Very fast - Faster than any Socket 775 or Am2/AM3 cpu in existance. Overclock the thing and the advantage versus the previous generation Core2Duo/Phenom2 parts is almost absurdly large, especially on applications than can use 8 threads. "Turbo" mode goes up to 3.46 ghz, so on single threaded apps it still flys. Quite a bit lower power usage than the lGA 1366 series at stock speeds Motherboards are waaaaaaay cheaper than the LGA 1366 parts. Because they have integrated the PCI-E controller onto the chip, if you use a single video card latencies are very low and performance is very good. Marginally outperforms an i7 920 at stock speeds.
Cons: Dual channel memory is marginally slower on a few applications than the tri-channel on the LGA 1366 parts, but difference on most applications is very small. Because they have integrated the PCI-E controller onto the chip if you use a dual video card setup you get 2 x 8 lanes versu 2 x 16 which is a tad slower. The PCI-E part of the chip seems to hold back over clocking, you need a lot more voltage to get the same OCs at the 920 D0s. Stock cooler is worse than bad - think it is the same cooler they use on the e5xxx Celerons... $100 more than the i5 750 just to get hyperthreading, 133 mhz, and one more turbo bin strikes me as profiteering. I hope AMD has something up their sleeve to whack Intel on the side of the head and drive pricing down a bit.
Other Thoughts: I7 920 versus i7 860...?
Single Video card and no overclocking the i860 is a better deal, especially with lower MB prices.
Dual Video Cards and heavy over clocking, the i7 920 D0 is a better choice.

Great all around processor

Pros: The i7 860 has great speed. Runs cool even at higher frequencies. I run mine at 3.36Ghz @ stock voltage with a CoolerMaster TX3 it runs at 32C idle and never gets above 58C at full load. It has all of Intel's features. This is the answer for anyone who wants the best. The 1366 platform is still an option with the 920 but I decided on this instead and I'm glad I did. This CPU has been proven faster than the 920. Read the reviews. Turbo boost, hyper threading, and 8MB L3 cache make this a great option for almost anyone. You can have the performance of a high end i7 with a lower price and lower priced motherboards too. I just love mine. I have been playing around with it for a week. I am so glad I decided to go with this over the i5 750. I think the i5 is a fine choice too but this chip with hyper threading seems like a better bet as more programs will use this feature in the future.
Cons: There are not many 1156 coolers out right now. I'm sure that will change with adapters. It seems all the heatsink companies were taken by surprise.
Other Thoughts: This would be good for the enthusiast or your grandma. Getting this CPU would make a system that would last someone a long time for editing pics/video and surfing the net. It also makes a great overclocking chip for the enthusiast. It's great all around.

Pros: Good performance, great price.
Cons: Isn't the most powerful processor out there.
Other Thoughts: A great balance of price and function. Paired it up with a Coolit Vantage for low temp running even in a tiny case.

Pros: Good Value, lots of features (virtualization support, hyperthreading, turbo boost yada yada). I had this one pegged the day it came out since then many competitor's have come up, but for my applications it was the best bang for buck, multi-threaded rendering, and large single threaded apps.
Cons: The stock cooler is garbage, if you're planning on doing any heavy multi-threaded work do yourself a favor and pick up a Notcua NH-D14 I lowered my 100% (all 8 cores) load temp by 25 deg over the stock cooler that would routinely sound the overheat alarm on my motherboard. I have no idea why intel thought to equip this fine processor with a reference cooler the size of a thick coaster....
Other Thoughts: Kinda miffed cause newegg had the i7 875k on sale for the same price the day after i ordered my i7 860 but all in all it's a great chip and gets the job done very fast!
