Amazing Power
- Pros: - Very Quick
- Amazingly powerful even when throttled back - 4 threads available for multitasking - VERY easy to overclock to 3.5ghz+ on stock heat sink - runs pretty cool - much cheaper than i7 variants with very similar performance - pretty good with power consumption
- Cons: - No triple channel memory support
- No Hyper-threading
- Other Thoughts: I bought this processor for gaming and regular computing for a mid-ranged computer, and these days it seems that mid-range is enough to max out most games (except full AA and full AF at 1920 x 1200 resolution).
I use this in my current rig: ASUS P7P55D LE G.Skill 4 gb PC3 12800 (1600 mhz) Sapphire ATI 5770
and combined even with premature drivers i'm hitting 17K on 3Dmark06 (I haven't ran vantage yet). I hit above 50 FPS in Farcry 2 with everything turned up and it runs smooth as silk.
I've been able to game with the stock clocks while using Folding@home applications taking full advantage of the 4 cores, and I barely see any performance hit (maybe 5 fps at most while gaming).
Absolutely phenomenal! I recommend this cpu!!
awesomeness!
- Pros: Very fast
Not too expensive
- Cons: Stock heatsink/fan sucks!
- Other Thoughts: I'm glad i got this over an amd phenom ii 955/965, the i5 beats them in like all benchmarks!
GREAT CPU
- Pros: Fast. Works great with Windows 64-bit and stable performance. Download SpeedFan and find temperature for each core is around 20 C at idle with stock fan installed, and inside HAF 932 case. No overclocking.
- Cons: None I can think of.
- Other Thoughts: Shipping is fast and the package is secured! (I ordered it with 4 other parts together inside a parcel) As a beginner in PC building I don't plan to overclock anything in near future. Performance is stable and FAST!

Highlights
 |
Intel Core i5 Quad-core Processor With four processing cores, the multitasking monster Quad-Core Intel Core i5 processor delivers fourfold the performance on highly-threaded applications, taking your desktop PC experience into a completely new realm of mega power. The powerful processor delivers serious performance on the ultra-demanding games of today and tomorrow. The innovative 45nm quad-core technology optimizes thermal performance for reduced power consumption and noise.
|
 |
Intel Advanced Smart Cache Intel Advanced Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared L2 cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from fast L2 cache, resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
|
 |
Intel Turbo Boost technology Intel Turbo Boost technology maximizes speed for demanding applications, dynamically accelerating performance to match your workload-more performance when you need it the most.
|
 |
Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) EIST allows the system to dynamically adjust processor voltage and core frequency to decrease average power consumption and average heat production. Combined with existing power saving features, EIST may provide an excellent balance between providing power when you need it and conserving power when you don’t.

 |
Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas in memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.
|
 |
Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) With Intel VT, one hardware platform functions as multiple "virtual" platforms. For business, Intel VT offers improved manageability, limiting downtime and maintaining worker productivity by isolating computing activities into separate partitions. In the home, Intel VT allows creating unique user environments for multiple family members using the same platform simultaneously.
