Crush your enemies, climb the tower of paperwork -- or do both at the same time. Intel's Core i7 processor not only makes it possible, it makes it easy. The Core i7 960 has four cores that run at 3.2GHz and shares 8MB of L3 cache.

Quad cores means true multi-tasking and multi-threading. One core handles the usual action on your operating system, while the second can play a DVD on the TV, the third download a file from internet, and the fourth one sends audio to the kids in another room without lags or stutters. All this is made easier with Intel’s advanced Digital Media Boost.

With Intel Turbo Boost technology and Intel Hyper-Threading technology, the Core i7 enables highly threaded applications or demanding applications to work in maximum speed without any extra effort. The 45nm Intel Core i7 processor is armed with Intel HD Boost, which implementing new Intel Streaming SIMD Extension 4.2 (Intel SSE4.2) instructions for fast high definition video editing and encoding, enhance the multimedia performance.

  • newegg Intel Core i7 Quad-core Processor With four processing cores, the multitasking monster Quad-Core Intel Core i7 processor delivers fourfold the performance on highly-threaded applications, taking your desktop PC experience into a completely new realm of mega power. The powerful processor delivers serious performance on the ultra-demanding games of today and tomorrow. The innovative 45nm quad-core technology optimizes thermal performance for reduced power consumption and noise.
  • newegg Integrated DDR3 Memory Controller With the integrated DDR3 memory controller, the Intel Core i7 enables three channels of DDR3 1066 MHz memory, resulting in up to 25.6 GB/sec memory bandwidth. Plus the memory controller's lower latency and higher memory bandwidth delivers amazing performance for data-intensive applications.
  • newegg Intel Advanced Smart Cache Intel Advanced Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared L3 cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from fast L3 cache, resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
  • newegg Intel Turbo Boost technology Intel Turbo Boost technology maximizes speed for demanding applications, dynamically accelerating performance to match your workload-more performance when you need it the most.
  • newegg Intel Wide Dynamic Execution With Intel Wide Dynamic Execution, each of the four cores can complete up to four full instructions simultaneously, improves execution speed and efficiency, delivering more instructions per clock cycle.
  • newegg Greater Performance with Hyper-Threading Technology (HT Technology) Hyper-threading enables multi-threaded software applications to execute two software threads in parallel to improve system responsiveness. Intel Core i7 enabled with HT Technology delivers performance and multitasking gains that result in increased productivity and efficiency.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent CPU

Pros: Awesome CPU thats incredibly fast. Allows me to run multiple applications such as music, vent, and games. Easily overclockable (even though i havent gone that route). Definitely a bang for the buck!

Cons: OEM shipping is garbage, mine came in a plastic case with two pieces of hard foam. This would have been ok except the case cracked open, so when i opened the box it was in the case and the pieces of foam were in one place and the processor was in another. Luckily theres no pins on it or there woudl be a problem. No Fan or Heatsink so make sure you get one.

Other Thoughts: Runs a little on the hot side so make sure you have a good heatsink and fan. I use the cooler master v8 and it keeps it fairly cool.

5 out of 5 eggsFast, oh yea

Pros: Quite speedy
Easier to get a reliable OC out of than the 920 imo
Great multi-tasking

Cons: It came wrapped in 9, 9! layers of bubble wrap, like 2 feet wide I swear. Must of seen the other guy's review.

Other Thoughts: After the pain of getting it out of the thick bubbly package the case was a little underwhelming.

4 out of 5 eggs960 or 920

Pros: This chip is a beast

Cons: I probably could have saved some money and bought the 920. I hear it OCs easily.

Other Thoughts: Having not built a system and lived with my single core FX55 for so long I did not want to risk having a loud high OC system. So, I spent $300 more than I needed to to have a system that would dance just fine with some minor tweaks.

I gave it 4 stars as I could have the same chip by OCing 920.

4 out of 5 eggsNicktric

Cons: BUT THE CHIP HERE IS NOT A C0 ITS D0 its very muck of a power hog

Other Thoughts: DO0 MUST BE BETTER IF ITS OVERCLOCKED RIGHT DO IS BEING A 28X SPEEDS ALSO THAts fast one poweruser i am but this eats poer but its cool.

5 out of 5 eggsMay I Say, Yes Please?

Pros: This little guy is a beast. I'm a film student editing high def footage and it allows for extreme multitasking. I'll have Photoshop, After Effects, and Premiere open simultaneously and it doesn't even blink.

Huge upgrade from anything and worth the price.

Cons: The way Newegg sent this was a bit nerve racking upon opening. They simply had the CPU wrapped in a sheet of bubble wrap and thrown in with the rest of my order. C'mon Newegg, I paid you how much for shipping?

Other Thoughts: The CPU doesn't come with a fan or heat sink. So make sure you have or plan on buying one when you order this puppy.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat cpu!

Pros: Running this cpu moderately overclocked @ 4.0 GHz - running about 39 deg C at idle, maxes at about 52 under load. Previously used a Q6700 OC'd @ 3GHz in another system. This one handles video encoding even better. Could have used an i7-920 with massive overclock, but I need reliability too.

Cons: a bit pricey

5 out of 5 eggsGreat chip, highly recommend

Pros: This thing takes everything you throw at it. Truly great performance. I just wish conventional hard drives could throw data across the bus fast enough to actually give it competition. Oh well, will move into SSD's soon enough. So heat problems either. Of course, I am using after-market fan/heatsink, but still, new chipsets from intel are defintely getting better.

Cons: Not one.

Other Thoughts: To Not_Happy,
This is an OEM shipped item. If you want the pretty box, pitch in the extra duckets to get the retail item. OEM chips rarely ever come in anything other than a plastic case with foam inserts.
To other reviewer, for a fan, buy one. Again, this was an OEM item. To others, if you are using the OEM fan, you deserve whatever happens. OEM fans are usually junk anyhow.

5 out of 5 eggsFast, stable

Pros: Installed without a hitch. Onboard memory controller is handling six DIMM sockets populated at DDR3 1600 speeds without a problem.

Cons: OEM, so nothing is included with the chip. A case badge would have been nice. :)

Other Thoughts: No problem with the packaging here. It was securely packed with antistatic foam in an OEM blister pack, which was then packed with RAM in another box in the shipping carton.

5 out of 5 eggs----->OEM version<------

Pros: Core i7 goodness

Cons: price

Other Thoughts: Somebody on the 1st page of reviews was throwing a tantrum because the CPU didn't come in the retail box. I am just letting everyone know that this is the OEM version. what you see is what you get. So before you go giving this piece of hardware 1 egg, read the title of the product.
