Upgrade your system with the Core i3-540 and own the processor that speeds up when you do. These new CPUs feature the “Intel graphics technology" with "Intel Clear Video Technology", which combines video processing hardware and software technologies for a wide range of digital displays. It delivers enhanced video playback, sharper images, and precise color control for a premium visual experience. Core i3 processors also allow you to multitask faster and unleash powerful media creation tools.

Best of all, the 4MB of Intel Smart Cache gives you blazing speeds you never realized were possible. The Integrated Memory Controller optimizes data bandwidth with two channels.

Smart Cache provides a higher-performance, more efficient cache subsystem while the Core microarchitecture accelerates overall system performance across your applications through energy efficiency. Add the Intel Core i3-540 to your system and you’ll never look back. Experience the convenience, versatility and raw power of Intel Core i3 processors today!

  • newegg Intel Core i3 Dual-core Processor With dual processing cores, the multitasking monster Dual-Core Intel Core i3 processor delivers twice the performance on highly-threaded applications, taking your desktop PC experience into a completely new realm of mega power. The powerful processor delivers serious performance on the ultra-demanding games of today and tomorrow. The innovative 32nm dual-core technology optimizes thermal performance for reduced power consumption and noise.
  • newegg Intel Graphics Technology Intel Graphics Technology provides a visually stunning experience optimized for Blu-ray and HD video with Windows Vista support and comes standard with many notebooks, desktop computers and motherboards—without the need to add an external and costly graphics card.
  • newegg Intel Advanced Smart Cache Intel Advanced Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared L3 cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from fast L3 cache, resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
  • newegg Greater Performance with Hyper-Threading Technology Hyper-threading enables multi-threaded software applications to execute two software threads in parallel to improve system responsiveness. Intel Core i3 enabled with HT Technology delivers performance and multitasking gains that result in increased productivity and efficiency.
  • newegg Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) EIST allows the system to dynamically adjust processor voltage and core frequency to decrease average power consumption and average heat production. Combined with existing power saving features, EIST may provide an excellent balance between providing power when you need it and conserving power when you don’t.
  • newegg Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas in memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.

5 out of 5 eggsQuick and Cool

Pros: Another Excellent PCU from Intel. The CPU was put on a ASUS MoBo and is working great. I do not overclok my CPU's which shortens the actual life of the CPU and MoBo if not using different cooling than Stock. So if you want a Snappy PCU with excellent performance in Farmville by Facebook this one will do it for you and still be ready for more.

Cons: None in Stock Format

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing overclocker!

Pros: I purchased this in August 2010. Recently, the processor began running hot enough to throttle on the stock cooler. Went to a local vendor to get a new heatsink and fan and the Antec Kuhler 620 was on sale very cheap.

With almost no effort at all, I was able to get this running completely stable at 4.6 GHz (23 x 200 BCLK) with 1.376 Vcore and Hyperthreading enabled! Temps are now 25° idle, 61° folding@home and 72° Prime95 in-place FFTs.

This CPU is an incredible value if you are overclocking.

Cons: $5 more now than what I paid from Newegg 28 months ago. Stock heatsink is atrocious and completely failed after 2 years. LGA 1156 will leave little room for upgrade paths.

Other Thoughts: 66.5% overclock with almost no effort as long as you have proper cooling.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Fast. Use for my gaming rig! Wish they still sold this processor! I would totally buy more!

Cons: Stock heat sink is really bad. System idles at around 50c
When playing bf3 the system is a constant 100c, when its max is 105c!
Will need to buy a new heatsink. Contact for suggustions!

Other Thoughts: Wish I could buy more!

4 out of 5 eggspurchased in a Gateway SX2850

Pros: works fine in the Gateway i purchased a Sapphire 2gb ddr3 graphics card for new egg and it improved the graphics from 4.8 wei to 6.8 i have tried to find a bios update that may allow me to overclock but that may not be possible with the oem processor or even the motherboard which i think i found out it is a acer mobo it only suporys 8 gb and i have 12 4gb fomthe computer itself which i believe is 1333mhz and patriot sector 5 2x4gb at 1600mhz which i know is reading slower in the bios unfortunate ly because of the slim case i cannot balance the dual dimms because of the heat sinks on the sector 5's i put a 1tb wd hd in and replaced the 500gb drive that originally came with the computer. but the 540 Clarksdale did improve to 7.0 from 6.8 with some tweaks from AVG toolsthe memory went from 6.8 to 7.0 as wellfrom the extra memory i am sure but i probably could do better i f i could balance the dual channels

Cons: the only cons are that it is in a slim case and the constictions on space but i improved the computer over all to CPU 7.0 from 6.8 and RAM to 7.0 from 6.8 [probably better if balanced} Graphics from4.8 to 6.8 and Gaming Graphics to 6.8 from 4.8 i am sure it is mainly from the addition of a discrete card if nothing else. The 1tb WD hdd did not change 5.9 even though it was a sata 2 and the 500gb hdd was a sata 3 with the same score in WEI.

Cons: I got nuthin'

Other Thoughts: I was surprised Newegg still sells this, and astonished it's selling for more now than it was 1/11

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: It's a great processor for the price. Don't waste your money on other processors just for a couple extra GHz. Unless you're into CPU-hungry applications you won't notice a difference.

Cons: None.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat processor, LOUSY customer service

Pros: great processor. really fast.

Cons: Processor failed after 8 months. Called Intel and got an RMA number. They said in their email a replacement would be sent upon receipt of the defective part. Mailed on Thursday via Priority Mail. One week later I had an online chat with their rep. They said the received it a full week after I mailed it, and this was caused by the fact the post office only delivers one day a week. Checked with post office and they verified it was, in fact, delivered on Monday. Had another chat with one of their reps. Says the part needed to be tested and the lab is in a different part of the building.
Four days from the mail room to the lab? Really???
And the first rep outright lied about the mail delivery. They get their mail ever day, just like everyone else.
My last Intel product
