5 out of 5 eggsAmazingly fast

Pros: Super fast, 12 threads / 6 cores. It can encode 33% more files in the same amount of less time than my old Core i7 950. This thing destroys the competition. I was either going to get this, or get the AMD X6... but after seeing the reviews for the X6, and watching the 980X destroy it... sure there was a $700 price difference. But I got to reuse my old motherboard, there's $200 saved. And I got to keep my 6 slots of triple channel DDR3... AMD only supports dual channel! So I would be going DOWN from 12GB to 8GB! Just didn't make sense to me to do that. Plus, most AMD boards don't even support SLI!! What kind of nonsense is that?

I will gladly take this extreme edition intel over ANY AMD, ANY day. It is sitting at 54C under full load right now, converting 12 files from MP4 to AVI.

Cons: I guess you could say price, but early adopters always have to pay more than those who wait. Doing the 1 year no interest, this comes out to less than $100/mo.

5 out of 5 eggsNext Generation

Pros: Next generation processor - 32nm process allows this CPU to maintain a 130W TDP (same as the "old" quad-core Core i7 9xx 45nm series) - Great for multimedia programs that take advantage of hyper-threading - compatible with all 1366 motherboards today (requires a BIOS update to change the stock CPU VTT setting to 1.1V) - I have it running at 4Ghz air-cooled (Thermaltake V1 copper HSF) with all voltages set to "Auto" - No need to upgrade for a while unless you really want the octa-core version coming out later this year.

Cons: Cost! But then again you are getting the latest and greatest Intel Gulftown Extreme Edition processor. Only a handful of games take advantage of the six cores and the performance gain versus Bloomfield Core i7 still isn't anything of signficance. The octagon-cores will be out later this year :(

Other Thoughts: If you can't plop a cool grand down on a CPU, wait for the "budget" hexacore (non-Extreme Edition) Core i7 970 version to come out later in the fall of this year. It will be as good of a bang-for-the-buck as the Core i7 920 and 930 are today. Personally, if I were budget bound I would spend $1000 on two GTX480s - you will get a much greater "bang for the buck" in gaming performance.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Excellent processor. Although yes a synthetic benchmark is far from every indication of performance, I went from a SiSoft Sandra score of 82.65 GFLOPS/97.85 GIPS on a Core i7 965 to GFLOPS: 123, GIPS 146. The i7 965 was OCed to 4.0ghs, this one is also.

Cons: No free pie or cake. When will Newegg provide free baked goods? :)

Other Thoughts: I put this into a Gigabyte EA58-Extreme motherboard after a BIOS flash to BIOS f12. (f9 is the one that Gigabyte claims upgrades the board to be able to use 6 core CPU's). The EA58 Extreme came out right at the launch of Socket 1366 and the first Core i7's to give an idea of the age of the board. No issues whatsoever, on a large I even booted the CPU without resetting the CMOS and it booted fine. I did go ahead and clear the CMOS right afterwards anyway to be sure, but that IMO shows that with a BIOS flash this CPU will work perfectly fine with the older Socket 1366 boards.

5 out of 5 eggsBest CPU yet....

Pros: Runs much cooler than the 45nm processors and is very fast. Going to overclock atleast 1GHz and see how it does :D If you can find this and can afford it, get it!

Cons: Kind of costly, but cant be judged by its price!

Other Thoughts: I currently have a Rampage II Extreme and will be upgrading to the Extreme III (waiting...waiting...). This chip of course overclocks easily and dont require as much voltage as in previous generations.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Processor!!!

Pros: I was a little worried when I purchased an OEM processor for $1000+, but I purchased it with a Cooler Master Hyper N620. Thankfully both arrived in great speed and are working great. Some have said that All
i7’s are the same and I am happy to say that they are wrong. . I own other i7 processors to compare and with the larger Cache and a completely unlocked multiplier this processor has a higher level of performance than any other processor I have purchased in the last 17 years. If you are interested in video rendering and gaming, buy this processor.

Cons: Price

Other Thoughts: Make sure you buy a great CPU cooler. I am using a Cooler Master Hyper N620 and under heavy gaming and video rendering the CPU temperature has not gone higher than 22C. Just to be fare, you need a full size case with very good ventilation.

5 out of 5 eggsWow

Pros: Unreal. Only changed the multiplier and CPU core voltage to 3.6 and reached a stable 4.2 Ghz. I have no desire to go higher...although I am sure this thing can.

Cons: Nothing except the crazy price, but hey...you will not be disappointed.

Other Thoughts: Why pull your hair out spending countless hours trying to get a stable overclock? If you'd spend all that time working and save the cash to buy this thing and save yourself the pain.

5 out of 5 eggsExtremely fast!!!

Pros: This CPU is extremely fast!!! I overclocked it to 4.4GHz and no problems with heat.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I definitley recommend this to anyone who has the money and wants to run intensive tasks while still having a lot more room to do more heavy tasks if needed.
