With the Wolfdale core, Intel pours more power into a dual-core package. The 45nm process allowed Intel to reduce the power needed down to 65W. Lower power means lower CPU heat, which translates to lower system heat and longer system life. They also packed more features into the chip.
L2 cache has been bumped to 2MB and the Front Side Bus has been pushed to 800MHz. You can now use both DDR2 and the hot new DDR3 memory for extreme performance. They also boosted memory access and execution speed with the Wide Dynamic Execution and Smart Memory Access. These combine to let the processor compute more instructions with more data per clock cycle. You'd better watch out; your enemies will be shooting back faster now.
The Advanced Digital Media Boost feature has been enhanced with the addition of the SSE4 instruction set and Intel HD Boost. This will give your entertainment experience a boost with better audio and video processing. It will also help with speech recognition, engineering and scientific applications. Perhaps most important of all will be the boost to security with increased encryption power and speed.

3.5ghz to 4ghz easy on air
- Pros: Runs so cool, I can't believe it. Easy to overclock past 3.5ghz
Running 3.325ghz - 266 x12.5 needed a tiny bit of voltage increase over Auto voltage.
3.5Ghz - 280x12.5 - stable 1.360v idle/1.312v load (vdroop) 3.7Ghz - 296x12.5 - stable 1.408v idle/1.360v load (vdroop)
4.0Ghz - 320x12.5 running at 1.456v idle, but since it had vdroop it was not stable. I did not want to push it but 1.5v core should make it stable at 4ghz!!!
- Cons: Stock heatsink is a joke. It is so thin its funny. My E4300 heatsink is twice as tall. By a aftermarket heatsink, or get a better 775 intel heatsink.
Using the Freezer 7 pro heatsink, but the surface is uneven and will need to be flat sanded so the heatspreaer surface will mate with it 100%. I did a review about it in the Freezer 7 pro reviews.
- Other Thoughts: 1.45v vcore is the Absolute Maximum for the E5200 according to intels documentation. Not 1.3625v like the spec sheet.
The CPU runs very cool. You will have no issues at all with a better heatsink combo. 4ghz+ on air.
This CPU has a max temperature of 74c (Tcase). This will be temp1,2, or 3 in speedfan or other monitors and the bios reading. NOT core1/core2 if your using core temp. Tcase is the temperature to go by. Tjunction is core1/core2 a maximum of 95-100c
3.5ghz CPU Idle 26c, - Core1/core2 idle 41c CPU load 49c - Core1/core2 load 60c
3.7ghz CPU Idle 29c, - Core1/core2 idle 44c CPU load 53c - Core1/core2 load 64c
So as you can see even at 3.7ghz, 53c at full load is well under the 74c max cpu temperature. Even the core temps are well under the max.
overclocker from hell!!!!!
- Pros: 45nm, 800 fsb, tough to beat price, 12.5x multiplier. this chip does not need water cooling to run at high GHZ. amazing overclocker probably the best so far from the core 2 line up.
will do 4.0 GHZ effortlessly. 320 fsb/12.5 multiplier = 4.0 ghz no problem. you will not be disapointed but if you arn't doing any overclocking go for the Q6600 or a quad core.
- Cons: none, well i am still wating for AMD to come back but this chip does not help things at all why by a low budget amd cpu when you can buy this for $xx and get $ 200 performance out of it if you overclock of course.
- Other Thoughts: If you want to upgrade to a better pc but dont want to spend alot because you plan on upgrading when nehalem comes out this cpu may help get you by untill nehalem.

good budget cpu
- Pros: Works great. Handles daily tasks without a problem.
- Cons: Heatsink sucks and is not easy to install.
- Other Thoughts: Could have a better heat sink. Go spend 15$ on a higher end heat sink.
Great budget CPU
- Pros: Terrific budget CPU. With little effort I was able to overclock to 3.66ghz (333x11) with an increase of 0.15v. I only tested for stability and did not attempt testing to see if this speed was stable at lower voltages; It very well may be. Stock cooler seems sufficient with decent airflow inside the case, though it is pathetically small.
- Cons: It doesn't make my coffee in the morning.
- Other Thoughts: This CPU exceeded my expectations. I would have been happy with 3.33ghz or so since this is an entry level PC, but it was so easy and stable at 3.66ghz that I went with it. Since this isn't my own PC, I don't have the time or patience to test for max overclock, just wanted to plug in some settings, Prime95 for 24 hours and go with it. Worked like a charm.
GREAT CPU
- Pros: Price is right. Never have any trouble with CPU maxing during audio/video editing... CPU runs like a champ, temp is always in line. Multitasking is great.
- Cons: none, especially for the price.
- Other Thoughts: only time CPU maxes out is while gaming (KOTOR II) at medium graffic settings. But it never froze. again, great CPU for the price.
