OverviewCustomer ReviewSpecifications
With the Wolfdale core, Intel pours more power into a dual-core package. The 45nm process allowed Intel to reduce the power needed down to 65W. Lower power means lower CPU heat, which translates to lower system heat and longer system life. They also packed more features into the chip.

L2 cache has been bumped to 2MB and the Front Side Bus has been pushed to 800MHz. You can now use both DDR2 and the hot new DDR3 memory for extreme performance. They also boosted memory access and execution speed with the Wide Dynamic Execution and Smart Memory Access. These combine to let the processor compute more instructions with more data per clock cycle. You'd better watch out; your enemies will be shooting back faster now.

The Advanced Digital Media Boost feature has been enhanced with the addition of the SSE4 instruction set and Intel HD Boost. This will give your entertainment experience a boost with better audio and video processing. It will also help with speech recognition, engineering and scientific applications. Perhaps most important of all will be the boost to security with increased encryption power and speed.

3.5ghz to 4ghz easy on air

white Reviewed By: Yee on 2/18/2009

Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Runs so cool, I can't believe it. Easy to overclock past 3.5ghz

Running 3.325ghz - 266 x12.5 needed a tiny bit of voltage increase over Auto voltage.

3.5Ghz - 280x12.5 - stable 1.360v idle/1.312v load (vdroop)
3.7Ghz - 296x12.5 - stable 1.408v idle/1.360v load (vdroop)

4.0Ghz - 320x12.5 running at 1.456v idle, but since it had vdroop it was not stable. I did not want to push it but 1.5v core should make it stable at 4ghz!!!
Cons: Stock heatsink is a joke. It is so thin its funny. My E4300 heatsink is twice as tall. By a aftermarket heatsink, or get a better 775 intel heatsink.

Using the Freezer 7 pro heatsink, but the surface is uneven and will need to be flat sanded so the heatspreaer surface will mate with it 100%. I did a review about it in the Freezer 7 pro reviews.
Other Thoughts: 1.45v vcore is the Absolute Maximum for the E5200 according to intels documentation. Not 1.3625v like the spec sheet.

The CPU runs very cool. You will have no issues at all with a better heatsink combo. 4ghz+ on air.

This CPU has a max temperature of 74c (Tcase). This will be temp1,2, or 3 in speedfan or other monitors and the bios reading. NOT core1/core2 if your using core temp. Tcase is the temperature to go by. Tjunction is core1/core2 a maximum of 95-100c

3.5ghz
CPU Idle 26c, - Core1/core2 idle 41c
CPU load 49c - Core1/core2 load 60c

3.7ghz
CPU Idle 29c, - Core1/core2 idle 44c
CPU load 53c - Core1/core2 load 64c

So as you can see even at 3.7ghz, 53c at full load is well under the 74c max cpu temperature. Even the core temps are well under the max.

Best OC Yet

Pros: This CPU is probably the best overclocker Intel has ever released. I use this regularly in my builds instead of the slightly higher priced e7XX series.

I was able to easily raise the clock speed to 3.6 GHz with the stock cooler staying less than 65 C under prime 95 for more than THREE days.

Settings were

FSB == 288 * 4 == 1152
CPU == 288 * 12.5 == 3.6 GHz
Vcpu == 1.34 V
RAM == 288 * 3.33 == 960 MHz
Vram == 1.9 V
Vnb == +0.1 V

Paired with a 9600 GT This system rocks out most games and cost less than $400.00 all on the egg The system scored 5.9's across the board in vista, and everything scored above 6.5 in Windows 7 except the RAM, which stayed at 5.9.
Cons: Not Free? I buy tons of these. I should receive a discount.
Other Thoughts: do it now, before they are Uber obsolete

Pros: not to hard on the pocket not a gaming processor but you can run quite a few very smoothly. GTA IV, Mercenaries just to name a couple i've played. is stable o.c.ing to 3.06ghz idles around 28^c and during moderate to heavy us 30-31^c. wouldn't recomend doing so unless heavily cooled and a good knowledge of it. and newegg always prompt with the service
Cons: none so far does everything i wanted and then some
Other Thoughts: would recomend for low budget build or for average user to a moderate gamer two thumbs up
