5 out of 5 eggsExcellent CPU

Pros: Bought to replace an aging Pentium E2200 2.2GHZ CPU. If you're stuck using the old 775 socket, first off I feel sorry for you, and second this is the CPU you want to have.

Works mildly OK for gaming, and by mildly I mean not good but not bad.

Cons: Runs a bit hot
No room for OCing, of course.
Almost constantly needs an after market cooler to not be on fire all the time.

Other Thoughts: Well worth it back in the day

5 out of 5 eggsGreat workhorse for WHS

Pros: I've used this CPU as the basis for an XP, Vista, Windows 7, Ubuntu and now Windows Home Server box. It has handled everything that I can throw at it; aside from gaming - which it may handle well, but I haven't tried to game with it.

I upgraded my WHS from an Intel Atom d510 to the Intel D945 and couldn't be happier. Yes, the Atom is much more efficient, but the D945 is quite a bit more responsive.

Would the D945 make for a good corporate server CPU? Maybe not, being just dual-core. But, for home / small-office use, I haven't been able to tax it to the breaking point yet.

3 out of 5 eggsRuns Super HOT!

Pros: Not too expensive and does the job.

Cons: This thing runs VERY hot like most Pentium Ds. Not able to overclock more than my old processor Intel E6700

Other Thoughts: I bought this as an upgrade to my dual core 2.7 GHz processor which I had overclocked to 3.9GHz. I have not been able to get this thing overclocked safely higher than 3.9GHz so I may switch back. I can do without the heat from this thing.

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't Work at all

Pros: None

Cons: When put into the computer it didn't start, the computer did start with the old CPU. Odd warranty service and still underway, have had the CPU for over a month.

Other Thoughts: BIOS was completely updated.

5 out of 5 eggsgood for dell gx620

Pros: dual core. 95 watt tdp. good upgrade for old motherboard

Cons: runs hot

Other Thoughts: Upgraded Dell GX620 SFF case with this socket 775 chip. Pentium D are the highest supported. Small form factors have heat issues so this processor @ 95 watts is only slightly more hot than the 85 watt Pentium 4 w/ HT it replaced.

Please note that speedstep is defaulted to be off on the GX620 systems and you have to turn it on manually. Highly recommend speedstep in small form factor cases to reduce heat.

Finally, watch for bad capacitors on old board with the hot pentium D processors.

5 out of 5 eggsBang for your buck

Pros: If you're still running an old computer like me (2005) and your mobo supports this processor, I don't think you can get much more of a better upgrade. Instantly noticed a difference.

Cons: I waited this long to upgrade

Other Thoughts: My previous processor was a Pentium D 2.8ghz. I previously upgraded my computer in 2008 by upping my RAM to 4gigs and putting in an Nvidia 8800 gts 512 mb.

This setup could just barely handle some of the games I play, and I felt the performance was being bottlenecked at my processor.

Now that I can manage my games better, I figure its high time to start saving up to replace this dated antique.

1 out of 5 eggsUnnecessary heat

Pros: Low price, no installation issues.

Cons: The temperature is absurd at times. It got up to 70°C out of the box, then I downclocked from 3.4GHz to 3.14GHz due to fear of overheating, played a game, got nonstop stutters/lag and the temp topped at 77°.

Other Thoughts: I had a 2.13GHz dual core, overclocked to 2.54GHz. Not only did that run smoother overall, it only got up to 31° max. Now I'll have to switch back to that and see if I can clock higher in the meantime, until I can get a liquid nitrogen heatsink submerged in a mineral oil tank to keep this thing from sizzling. Since this product isn't eligible for a return.

Probably a good choice if you're running some water cooling, but I've never tried it so I can't say for sure.

5 out of 5 eggsGood bang for the buck

Pros: Quite fast. I upgraded from a Celeron D 3.2GHz to this last fall, and the performance difference was definitely noticeable.

This is the fastest processor compatible with my mobo, and it was definitely worth the money.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Runs a bit hotter than I think it should, at least for me. A simple heat sink upgrade took care of that, though.
