5 out of 5 eggsBest i3 value

Pros: Low power. The best performance/energy value out there.
Decent integrated graphics.

Cons: The fan, the fan, the fan. CPU fan makes noise like a refrigerator.

Other Thoughts: If you buy it, change the fan immediately!

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome!!!

Pros: Low power

4 threads (2 cores, 2 hyperthreads)

Full virtualization support

Cons: heatsink as usual with all stock coolers. It ran 60C under full load. I put an all copper heatsink and it never goes above 35c.

Loud stock fan is now replaced with a ultra quiet fan.

all I hear is 4 hard drives whining :P I never noticed how loud hard driver really are.

Other Thoughts: This thing is so awesome. I bought it for an NAS system, but it was way overkill. I decided to make an esxi virtual server and run a half dozen servers off this thing and it doesn't skip a beat. I was worried about dual-core and 2.5GHz, but this thing is a beast!!!

If you are only going to run a NAS or WHS, then you would be better off with an Atom system as they use half the power of this thing and are very adequate for the job. The AMD E-350 Brazos will be better. Only 7watts idle and 13watts load!!!

3 out of 5 eggsbuggy linux graphics drivers

Pros: Low power consumption

Cons: I bought this to use in a HTPC, running gentoo linux (recent kernel, version 3.2.1) and mythtv. I was hoping to just use the on-CPU graphics to save power. Unfortunately there is a bug in the linux Intel graphics driver using the HDMI output which makes everything green if the display is turned off/on. A workaround when this happens is to plug/unplug the HDMI cable, but this gets to be a pain really quickly.

5 out of 5 eggsSub 60 Watt HTPC

Pros: Great Low power CPU with built in GPU on-die.
Contains everything needed for a XMBC Ubuntu HTPC. It is also running as a Timemachine backup drive, Samba server, and a Wireless AP.

Cons: I accidentally knocked off a blade of the stock fan. I have never done that before, so this may have been a lighter weight offering than the past.

The GPU struggles with a few modern emulators, but that is expected for an on-die GPU

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for HTPC

Pros: Only 35 W power

Cons: Somehow noisy stock fan

Other Thoughts: I bought this CPU to build HTPC. Works great giving a far more power then needed. I run Linux on my computer and I don't have any problems with this CPU nor with Intel graphics. I couldn't get this processor temperature to raise above 50 C even when trying it with some more demanding (at least then movies) games. When watching a movie its stays around 35-40 C.

My only complain is the stock fan which is so far the loudest part of my setup, even when it runs at the lowest speed.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for a HTPC

Pros: The perfect CPU for a home theater box with Windows 7 Media Center. The on-die graphics is all you need to decode full HD video. According to CoreTemp, the CPU runs around 35°C and never consumes more than 9.4 watts.

Cons: Wasn't free. Doesn't yell at you before you install the CPU in an orientation where the heatsink fan cable won't reach your motherboard....oops.

Other Thoughts: If you're using audio over HDMI, make sure you install the driver package from Intel's website rather than using the drivers on Windows Update. When I was using the Windows Update drivers only, it didn't install the Intel audio driver, and so audio would be very flaky.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat HTPC processor

Pros: Fast
Energy Efficient
Smart Cache
Low profile heatsink and fan
Runs cool

Perfect fit for my Mini ITX system and Habey EMC-800 case (requires a low profile CPU cooler)
Had I gone with the regular i3 2100 my components would not have fit due to the CPU cooler being taller.

Did I mention fast?

Intel Core i3-2100T Sandy Bridge 2.5GHz 35W
CORSAIR XMS3 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1333
Sony Optiarc CD/DVD Burner (Slot-Load)
Habey EMC-800S aluminum Mini-ITX
StarTech FAN5X1TX3 50mm Case Fan

Cons: Pricey considering what you can get for slightly more. But you usually can't use those kind of processors in a Mini-ITX case.

Other Thoughts: I understand I could have saved money purchasing the regular 2100 and underclocking it. The reason why people buy this processor versus the regular 2100 is this... The included CPU cooler has a much smaller profile. This is a key factor when you are dealing with mini-itx and limited space. You could try to buy the 2100 without a cooler and get an aftermarket. But sometimes the simplicity of getting it all together is worth a few extra bucks. It's designed to perform efficient right out of the box with no extra knowledge/tampering of motherboard settings. Some boards might not even have those options.

There are times to be overly geeky and cheap to save money. The $20 that can be saved was not a good enough reason. I see no wrong doing by Intel for making this product. Sometimes people are a little critical without thinking outside the box. Not everyone is as tech savvy as some of us. Don't let it go to your head. This product absolutely deserves a spot on the shelf

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent in SilverStone Mini-ITX case

Pros: Lower power usage than your usual CPU. It's like laptop meets desktop, sort of.
Stock Intel heatsink/fan are very small, leaves a lot of room for airflow in the case.
I dare say this is the best deal for a power efficient/space saving/budget/performance oriented desktop.

Cons: It just works for me. No cons.

Other Thoughts: Bought this because my Intel mini-ITX board complained that the Core i7-2600 (95W) had higher TDP that the board was designed for (65W). This CPU is well within the limit. Now I don't fear my mini-ITX will overheat...Peace of mind, what a nice thing to have.
