5 out of 5 eggsStill a fast proc

Pros: Owned this since 2011. Been running at a ~200MHz overclock for the past 3 years, never had instability.
Stock cooling is actually decent

Cons: Stock fan is a bit loud when running hard, they could have fit a bit bigger one on there and cut down the noise

Other Thoughts: This proc sold me on lots of fast cores... well this and the Q6600 that came before it. Can't wait to get the Haswell-E / X99 mess sorted out to take advantage of the new instructions.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Chip - Very Happy

Pros: Fast right out of the box, works as expected, I got a 7.9 win index, 6 cores, havent tried yet due to SSD headaches but heard this bad boy will crank pretty easily.

Cons: none. performs exactly as expected. stock cooler looks like junk, but if you're going to spend almost 600 on a chip, why would you use stock cooling? not an x (dont need one unless you're building an autobot)

Other Thoughts: Added a Noctua NH-D14 cooler to it. stays very cool and is very quiet, even when running skyrim on full load

5 out of 5 eggs4.3GHz Out of the box

Pros: Really, really fast for less the cost of other processors. Cranked this puppy up to 4.3GHz straight out of the box (on water). Idling around 29c and max load of 58c. Couldn't be happier. It cut my video rendering times down from 1hr 45mins down to about 37 mins. Well worth the money spent.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsVERY Fast

Pros: If you have an LGA-1366 board this is pretty much the chip to get. It's not the "Extreme" but it doesn't have to be. It runs fast, it runs reasonably cool (with a decent cooler) and it just works. I have it on a DX50SO board and like it a lot -- it replaced a Core i7/2.6Ghz quad-core and is about double the realized performance level.

I do a lot of video rendering and batch photo processing so CPU performance matters. There's just nothing bad to say here, and the CPU has a reasonable price as well. 2 hour full HD video render time has been cut roughly in half over the i7/Quad I had in the machine previously; Vegas pins all six cores so it's definitely "getting it all."

Finally, it has the AES instruction set support -- the only LGA-1366 i7 processor that does. If you are using TrueCrypt (I am) then this makes a MASSIVE difference in performance on disk I/O. It's worth the nearly six bills for that alone.

Cons: Just the price.

Other Thoughts: The included fan setup in the box looks pretty credible on its own; it has a 4-pin connection, is large, has a good contact setup and a switch to choose either PWM fan speed control or "just blast it full time". Most of the stock setups stink pretty badly; this one looks like it would definitely do the job although I didn't use it as I ordered the CoolerMaster unit to go with the CPU and am happy with that.

Note that you really need an SSD for a system disk to fully appreciate a processor in this class.....

5 out of 5 eggsOut Geekbenches the sandy bridge processors!

Pros: Performance to spare. Hexacore. Runs very cool with Corsair integrated liquid coolers. Faster than the new sandy bridge 2600K and 2700K processors more than 25%! Overclocks like a dream. Running @ 4.3GHz and 100% stable with only 1.375v on core.

Cons: Price. (but well worth it)

Other Thoughts: Geekbench score of 21K+ - tonymacx86

5 out of 5 eggsMove over wife, someone's coming to bed.

Pros: I have put in enough processors to know that when Intel put this little honey into the box they really did it well. It has a very nice Heat Sink. I was totally blown away at the heat sink that came in the box. It's not that standard fan on top of radiator, it's much more of an aftermarket looking heat sink that is blowing across the processor and not down on top of it. Also, just because I really lucked out, there is a Blue LED inside the fan. Which is awesome, because there are about 4 other blue LEDs on my case. The windows rating on this is a 7.7. The 6 cores really make everything run instantly. Pulling up Chrome (cause if you're in the know you don't run internet explorer!) pops up like it was minimized and not closed. There is a switch on the heat sink that allows for performance mode or quiet mode on the fan. I don't care about sound, I have 3 kids, performance mode it is.

Cons: Only thing I would change is that the thermal paste would be pre applied. It's not hard, but I'm just .... what's the word... LAZY!

Other Thoughts: My CPU has been running at 17º C for the majority of the time, gets as low as 14º C on some occasions. Then when I'm playing a game it goes up to about 22-24º C. Not bad at all.

I have a HAF X 942 Cooler Master case that really keeps the air flowing.

This is a great processor.

5 out of 5 eggsthe 980

Pros: Its a 980, six cores, and it screams! This thing is a beast at everything.

Cons: pffft...what cons

Other Thoughts: I have a corsair h100 strapped to it doing a push/pull with some xigmatek fans. It idles at about 21/C. After 13 hours of prime 95, the highest temp, according to real temp GT v. 3.70 was 39/C.
