The Intel Pentium processor family based on Intel Sandy Bridge codename is the right choice for building an ideal basic desktop system. The introduction of the latest generation 32nm Hi-k manufacturing process technology brings improvements to the Intel Pentium processor over the previous generation Core microarchitecture.

Moreover, Intel HD Graphics and the memory controller have been integrated into the processor, providing great graphics performance and higher memory bandwidth. Intel Smart Cache provides a higher-performance, more efficient cache subsystem while the revolutionary Intel Microarchitecture accelerates overall system performance across your applications through energy efficiency. These Pentium processors are ideal for more traditional basic desktop systems with the power to run applications simultaneously and efficiently.

  • newegg Intel Microarchitecture Based Dual-core Processing The Intel Pentium processor includes dual execution cores in a single processor to enable execution of parallel threads or applications simultaneously, resulting in revolutionary dual-core performance, breakthrough energy efficiency and exceptional system response time when running multi-threaded applications, or multiple demanding applications. The innovative 32nm fabrication technology optimizes thermal performance for reduced power consumption and noise.
  • newegg Intel HD Graphics Intel HD Graphics with dynamic frequency up to 1.1GHz delivers smooth HD video playback and mainstream 3D gaming without the need for add-in video cards or decoders. It also supports a wide range of display connectivity options and is dual display capable.
  • newegg Intel Smart Cache Intel Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from faster, more efficient cache subsystem resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
  • newegg Integrated DDR3 Memory Controller The Integrated Memory Controller optimizes data bandwidth with two channels, offering stunning memory read/write performance through efficient prefetching algorithms, lower latency, and higher memory bandwidth.
  • newegg Intel Virtualization Technology (VT-x) Increasing manageability, security, and flexibility in IT environments, virtualization technologies like hardware-assisted Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) combined with software-based virtualization solutions provide maximum system utilization by consolidating multiple environments into a single server or PC. By abstracting the software away from the underlying hardware, a world of new usage models opens up that reduce costs, increase management efficiency, strengthen security, while making your computing infrastructure more resilient in the event of a disaster.
  • newegg Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology is an advanced means of enabling very high performance while also meeting the power-conservation needs of mobile systems. Conventional Intel SpeedStep Technology switches both voltage and frequency in tandem between high and low levels in response to processor load.

5 out of 5 eggssuprising performance

Pros: nice performance for a cheap chip.
works fine even for the light media converting/editing i do.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: if the software you use often is not coded for more than two cores then this chip is a steal.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome CPU

Pros: Excellent CPU, hosts a minecraft server on Ubuntu Server x64. Will be picking up another one for a different server to do file hosting etc.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Has been on 24/7 now with zero problems for more than a month.

1 out of 5 eggsLoud Processor

Pros: Boots and seems to run well.

Cons: The processor itself appears to be very loud; the fan is very quiet. I had never heard of a loud processor, and did not know they could make noise like this. It is possible that some other component is making the noise, but it goes away when I change out the processor (using the same heat-sink and fan).

5 out of 5 eggsBest Budget Processor

Pros: - Runs Really Cool
- Cheap
- Fast
- No problems
- Very Basic
- 3GHz

Cons: - Struggles with video rendering
- Can limit you in games such as BF3 but... you get what you pay for. For $65 you can't do better
- Can't overclock

Other Thoughts: My System:
G860 3GHz
SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7770 GHz 1GB
AsRock Z75 Pro3
Crucial Ballistix 8GB
Windows 7

This processor is an absolute beast. If you want to make a gaming machine on a budget.. this is for you. One of my only struggles is video rendering in Sony Vegas and After Effects. I run a YouTube Channel and I am constantly rendering out videos. With this I feel I am a bit limited but.. it's $65. I play Skyrim on max settings at 720p with no problem. Battlefield 3 multiplayer is a BIT limited on the processor but... not a very big deal. I can still play it on high settings at 720p.

Overall this is a beast. If you want something a bit faster, or if you are doing a lot of rendering of videos, I suggest getting an i3 with hyper-threading or a quad AMD.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I can't say enough good things about this processor. I recently built a mini itx system and was on the fence about this cpu and the i3. After reading a few reviews I decided to try my luck with the G860. I was completely blown away by the performance. I teamed this cpu up with a 4GB DDR3 1333 stick of RAM and an ECS H61-H2-I3 mobo. Stuffed it all in an Apex MI-008 case and have been happy ever since.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Processor - Cheaply Priced

Pros: This review actually goes hand in hand with another review for motherboard N82E16813131888. I am a Network Administrator, and I bought this processor to go with my new motherboard. This processor comes at a great price and works flawlessly with everything that I do. I will definitely be buying another one of these soon for my brother's new computer that I am building.

Cons: The only downside is it did not come with thermal compound, unlike the i7 I bought for another machine. Seeing as I already had some on hand, that was not an issue. Will that keep me from buying another one of these in the future? Absolutely not!!! In fact as stated above, I am about to buy another one of these for my brother's new computer.

Other Thoughts: As stated in my motherboard review, I am using this processor to run a computer that I use for gaming; and it works absolutely flawlessly! Of course that depends on your graphics card as well (I have an EVGA GeForce GTX550 Ti - N82E16814130744). The games I am running are Guild Wars 2, Path of Exile, and Diablo III. Like I said, they are all running flawlessly; so I could not ask for a more suitable and cheaply priced solution.

5 out of 5 eggsFor the money? Cannot beat it...

Pros: It works great with 8 gigs of RAM. Holds it's own quite well for a dual core and uses less electricity.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: In my mind, there is no other CPU for the price.

5 out of 5 eggsMy second purchase

Pros: I am so happy I discovered this CPU. Works great!

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: Used this with my second ASRock motherboard.

Great for a low cost computer but not low performance.

Once again, all parts from Newegg.
