The Intel Pentium processor family based on Intel Sandy Bridge codename is the right choice for building an ideal basic desktop system. The introduction of the latest generation 32nm Hi-k manufacturing process technology brings improvements to the Intel Pentium processor over the previous generation Core microarchitecture.

Moreover, Intel HD Graphics and the memory controller have been integrated into the processor, providing great graphics performance and higher memory bandwidth. Intel Smart Cache provides a higher-performance, more efficient cache subsystem while the revolutionary Intel Microarchitecture accelerates overall system performance across your applications through energy efficiency. These Pentium processors are ideal for more traditional basic desktop systems with the power to run applications simultaneously and efficiently.

  • newegg Intel Microarchitecture Based Dual-core Processing The Intel Pentium processor includes dual execution cores in a single processor to enable execution of parallel threads or applications simultaneously, resulting in revolutionary dual-core performance, breakthrough energy efficiency and exceptional system response time when running multi-threaded applications, or multiple demanding applications. The innovative 32nm fabrication technology optimizes thermal performance for reduced power consumption and noise.
  • newegg Intel HD Graphics Intel HD Graphics with dynamic frequency up to 1.1GHz delivers smooth HD video playback and mainstream 3D gaming without the need for add-in video cards or decoders. It also supports a wide range of display connectivity options and is dual display capable.
  • newegg Intel Smart Cache Intel Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from faster, more efficient cache subsystem resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
  • newegg Integrated DDR3 Memory Controller The Integrated Memory Controller optimizes data bandwidth with two channels, offering stunning memory read/write performance through efficient prefetching algorithms, lower latency, and higher memory bandwidth.
  • newegg Intel Virtualization Technology (VT-x) Increasing manageability, security, and flexibility in IT environments, virtualization technologies like hardware-assisted Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) combined with software-based virtualization solutions provide maximum system utilization by consolidating multiple environments into a single server or PC. By abstracting the software away from the underlying hardware, a world of new usage models opens up that reduce costs, increase management efficiency, strengthen security, while making your computing infrastructure more resilient in the event of a disaster.
  • newegg Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology is an advanced means of enabling very high performance while also meeting the power-conservation needs of mobile systems. Conventional Intel SpeedStep Technology switches both voltage and frequency in tandem between high and low levels in response to processor load.

4 out of 5 eggsLow Budget Gaming CPU

Pros: Works great, its good for gaming but not the best.

Cons: The cable that hooks up to the motherboard was to short because its wrapped around the fan, had to cut it from it from the fan to make it long enough, Not a very quiet fan.

Other Thoughts: If you want to play Arma 2 it going to be a bit sluggish.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic, Inexpensive CPU

Pros: A great, inexpensive chip paired with my Asus P8Z77 MOBO.
I don't game at all, but with multiple windows open and watching videos, the temp stays under 40 even with the stock heatsink, fan and pre-applied compound.

Cons: Not a con, but I hate measuring temp in Celsius.
It stays right around 98-102 Farenheit.

Other Thoughts: Purchased everything for a new computer build (my first, 3 years ago I was computer illiterate) from NewEgg except for this CPU. Just happen to have a gift card for another store and wanted to use it up since I never shop there.
NewEgg's instructional videos rock!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little CPU

Pros: 3.0 Ghz, fast, cool, reliable, it's Intel, what do you expect?

Cons: Doesn't pay my taxes for me.

Other Thoughts: Used this in my first ever budget build. Didn't want to spend too much since I was afraid I'd mess something up, but I have no regrets about selecting this little beast. It has run everything I have thrown at it flawlessly, and stays cool doing it. I game mainly, but nothing too harsh. Skyrim, Shogun 2, both run on High with no hiccups at all. Told myself when I first got this I would upgrade to a quad soon, but honestly right now can't see any reason to. Nothing but happy with it.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent CPU & Value

Pros: 3 ghz and two cores, plenty of cache, runs cool. CHEAP.

Cons: Intel HSF kinda dinky, but does the job.

Other Thoughts: Paired this with 8 GB and a 7770 for a great gaming computer. Don't let someone try to convince you ya need a 300$ processor to play games unless you have a 30" monitor. This thing works great at 720 and 1080.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Budget CPU!

Pros: - Very cheap, of course in a good way.
- Super easy to install.
- Runs very cool, even with stock Intel fan.
- Stock Intel fan is very quiet.
- Perfect for a gamer on a budget.
- Low power consumption

Cons: - Falls back on higher CPU dependent games such as Battlefield and Skyrim.
- Cannot keep up with today's standards video editing wise.
- Bottlenecks almost ALL video cards after the $130 price range.
- Integrated graphics are awful for games.

Other Thoughts: If you are a first time PC builder that wants to get into PC gaming but you are not sure if it'll do you justice, this CPU is the BEST option. Having it be only $70, it certainly a great CPU.

For a while, I ran this with a GT 620 and the CPU powered up that to it's full potential. Recently, I just upgraded to a GTX 650 Ti and I have noticed a CPU bottleneck in games such as BF3, Skyrim, and Bioshock Infinite.

As for video editing, this is not really what you want. I own a fairly successful YouTube channel and I am rendering and editing videos every single day almost. I don't like all the time I have to spend waiting and waiting and WAITING for my videos to render. This happens in Sony Vegas along with After Effects.

Overall, this is a great CPU. I do suggest if you are planning to do video editing, save up a bit more money and get an AMD chip such as the Phenom 965.

5 out of 5 eggssuprising performance

Pros: nice performance for a cheap chip.
works fine even for the light media converting/editing i do.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: if the software you use often is not coded for more than two cores then this chip is a steal.
