The Intel Pentium processor family based on Intel Sandy Bridge codename is the right choice for building an ideal basic desktop system. The introduction of the latest generation 32nm Hi-k manufacturing process technology brings improvements to the Intel Pentium processor over the previous generation Core microarchitecture.

Moreover, Intel HD Graphics and the memory controller have been integrated into the processor, providing great graphics performance and higher memory bandwidth. Intel Smart Cache provides a higher-performance, more efficient cache subsystem while the revolutionary Intel Microarchitecture accelerates overall system performance across your applications through energy efficiency. These Pentium processors are ideal for more traditional basic desktop systems with the power to run applications simultaneously and efficiently.

  • newegg Intel Microarchitecture Based Dual-core Processing The Intel Pentium processor includes dual execution cores in a single processor to enable execution of parallel threads or applications simultaneously, resulting in revolutionary dual-core performance, breakthrough energy efficiency and exceptional system response time when running multi-threaded applications, or multiple demanding applications. The innovative 32nm fabrication technology optimizes thermal performance for reduced power consumption and noise.
  • newegg Intel HD Graphics Intel HD Graphics with dynamic frequency up to 1.1GHz delivers smooth HD video playback and mainstream 3D gaming without the need for add-in video cards or decoders. It also supports a wide range of display connectivity options and is dual display capable.
  • newegg Intel Smart Cache Intel Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from faster, more efficient cache subsystem resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
  • newegg Integrated DDR3 Memory Controller The Integrated Memory Controller optimizes data bandwidth with two channels, offering stunning memory read/write performance through efficient prefetching algorithms, lower latency, and higher memory bandwidth.
  • newegg Intel Virtualization Technology (VT-x) Increasing manageability, security, and flexibility in IT environments, virtualization technologies like hardware-assisted Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) combined with software-based virtualization solutions provide maximum system utilization by consolidating multiple environments into a single server or PC. By abstracting the software away from the underlying hardware, a world of new usage models opens up that reduce costs, increase management efficiency, strengthen security, while making your computing infrastructure more resilient in the event of a disaster.
  • newegg Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology is an advanced means of enabling very high performance while also meeting the power-conservation needs of mobile systems. Conventional Intel SpeedStep Technology switches both voltage and frequency in tandem between high and low levels in response to processor load.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Medium-End CPU

Pros: Chip does an outstanding job handling your everyday processes, and it can even power a medium end gaming PC.

Pros:
-high Ghz
-low watt
-32nm
-Sandy Bridge compatibility
-Great Intel features

Cons: none that really gave me a headache. Depending on your cooler you may not have as much of problem with heat as I did, but if you get the right cooler for this chip you wont have any problems.

Other Thoughts: Paired up with my MSI-R6770 it ran Far Cry 3 at 1080p SSAO at Medium, handled Crysis at 1080p at medium - high settings. and BF3 at 1080p at low-medium settings. I'm the type of gamer that loves eye candy, so I really messed with loads of different settings to get the best looking gaming experience there is with this chip. Some games I ran maxed out (maxed graphics - 1920x1080p) include L4D2, Portal 2, TF2, and League of Legends.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Great dual core processor for the value. Not only does it handle the everyday user/multi tasker, but it can also play some modern games with no problem. I've used this processor in a couple builds (including my own) and found that it handles World of warcraft on high settings without and studdering. Perfect price and not alot of watts involved.

Cons: None that I have encountered.

Other Thoughts: Even with the stock cooler it barely gets hot. Great job intel.

5 out of 5 eggsKeep it simple

Pros: Great CPU with minimal setup. Running with ASUS P8B75-V. No issues with it since purchased. Use for moderate gaming, and workstation. Very pleased with install and setup, and usage!
Fan is quiet.

Cons: none so far.

Other Thoughts: might be upgrading, might not. Need to run some tests for better specs. Overall a great value!

5 out of 5 eggsGood for Office PCs

Pros: I used this in a build for a friend. This processor works fantastic for a basic office PC. The computer is also used for some light gaming (Sims 3, flash games, etc). WEI score was 6.6, not perfect but it definitely does what I needed it for.

Was at a great price too! $65 for this processor is a very decent price.

Cons: This processor can only support up to 1066mhz RAM. Was kinda hoping for atleast 1333mhz.

Other Thoughts: If you need a processor for low-level gaming or just to surf the web and write homework assignments, this is the perfect solution.

5 out of 5 eggsBest value/performance.

Pros: Stout chip that has given me zero problems in my MSI H61M-P31 G3 motherboard. It can handle CS:GO using it's intel hd2000 graphics on low settings with an average of 35fps. Windows 7 and 8 both work like butter on this chip. Spend the money on other components in your system and look no further than the Intel Pentium G series processors.

Cons: It lacks certain features the I series processors have but unless you are doing network administration or something out of the norm you won't miss them.

Other Thoughts: Seriously for less than 70.00 dollars you cant beat how much of a Full blown processor this is. Buy this and wait for the ivy bridge i7's to drop in price. For two more dollars I would go back and get the G860 but it wasn't out when I bought this guy.

1 out of 5 eggsDead CPU fan.

Pros: CPU works.

Cons: CPU Fan died after 2 months.

Other Thoughts: I really expect much better from Intel. Just noticed the random shutdown recently, turns out the CPU fan died. At least it didn't burn down.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice

Pros: -Works great for my HTPC build!

-Seems to stay very cool

-Fan doesn't make much noise

Cons: -Hadn't dealt with this type of fan installation before and had to figure that out to properly seat the fan with the CPU. Wasn't a big deal, just new to me.

Other Thoughts: I've been building with AMD processors for over a decade and haven't had any problems with them. However the MB I wanted for my HTPC build required a LGA 1155 socket and so I decided to go with this one and I've been very happy with it. Look forward to using it for many years to come.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat value processor

Pros: fast LGA 1155 processor with integrated graphics at a great price. you get a lot for the money (and how often does one get to say that...).

wanted an LGA 1155 processor for a mid-build media pc; this does the job and then some.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: the supplied cpu cooler/fan, which i had never used before when buying more powerful intel processors, is surpisingly effective and quiet in my current build.

processor never gets above 34c and you can't hear the fan at all from a couple of feet away.

now, i should point out that when i did the first boot the cooler fan was quite loud. i mean WAY loud. like wt??? loud.

so, i moved the fan wires away from the fan to get a better look at the fan, and the fan became quiet. i guess one of the fan wires must have been 'ever so slightly' getting hit by the fan blades - though it was not obvious to me from just looking at.

if you fan is loud, power down, try moving the fan wires, and reboot.
