5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Best processor I have ever bought.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Running this since 2 FEB 2012. It was a bit pricy for my first pure Intel build, but I feel now as though it was worth the investment. I have had ZERO issues with it since install and my PC runs 24/7/365 with normal reboots and outage.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome CPU

Pros: When I bought this it was king of the hill and I still love it. It can run everything I throw at it and never bogs down. Its great at virtual machines also running many at the same time without problem. It does run hot when any overclock is attempted but is fine when no overclocking. It is easy to overclock to 4.4ghz with water cooling only going to 65 degrees under full load.

Cons: It was updated to Ivy bridge just weeks after I bought it.
Price is way to high

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this or the 4960 to anyone wanting a killer computer and to use water cooling to get the most out of it.

5 out of 5 eggsThe BEST desktop processor

Pros: I can sweat this thing.... I left it stock (no overclocking) and even running GNS3, VM Workstation 10 and about a dozen virtual machines, virtual switches, routers, firewalls, and load balancers I barely got above 33% utilization. on a normal day teh thing is barely registering. Running games it barely blips even when on high settings (yeah I know most of that has to do with video cards) but I don't dedicate a card to physics so .. take that for what its worth.

This CPU has been ROCK solid. Granted a lot has to do with what you pair it with. but I CANNOT complain about this processor.

Cons: Its not really a con but Price. honestly if your dropping 1K on a CPU you are probably not worried about this.

Other Thoughts: To be honest its all about the complete package. Spend some serious time researching your other components. make sure you are buying high end top performing mother board, RAM, drives, video cards, and controllers. When I built my rig out it cost me almost 6K and I bought everything from newegg.com. If you have problems running this CPU is most likely because of one of the other components. lets be honest you wouldn't buy a Ferrari engine and put it in a ford focus. If your not going to pair it correctly go with a lower cost CPU, no need to waste the cash if your board can't take advantage of all this CPU has to offer.

5 out of 5 eggsReality

Pros: Fact: the 3960X/3970X/4960X are the fastest desktop CPUs in existence. Period. There's no question, no matter of test setups or threading/lack thereof that can dispute that. There's nothing from AMD that even plays in the same league. If you must have the best, these chips are it. My 3960X is running at 4.2ghz on dead silent air cooling and idles at 30c, topping out at 70c after days of running full-out. I'm certainly not setting any records, but then again there's no piece of software i've come across that I have to wait for.

Cons: $1000+ is ludicrously expensive for any desktop processor, no matter how fast. Then again, like me, most of us who run this CPU didn't have to pay for it. If you have to spend money to get a CPU, get the 3930k and overclock it. You'll be just as fast as we are.

Other Thoughts: Thoughts from a completely neutral datacenter engineer:

- Comparing a $200 AMD CPU to this chip is laughable. If you are buying $200 CPUs, you have no business even looking at this page. Don't kid yourself. Conversely, if you are seriously considering this chip, you aren't cross-shopping anything with the AMD brand on it. Don't waste your valuable time.

- If your CPU is running at 84C EVER, you have a cooling system issue. Not even a Prescott dual core should get that hot. Ever. Just want to reiterate - EVER.

- Genitalia-measuring contests over computer hardware are about as low as you can get. Stop wasting your time and get back to embarrassing old guys like me in BF4.

5 out of 5 eggsBuy one first

Pros: Fast and tough. I have my cpu liquid cooled,I have had it running at 4.9ghz. Temp at 100% load, 12 threads, mid 70c.

Cons: Price is a minor con.

Other Thoughts: AMD chip users that don't own an Intel chip, need to stick to things they know something about. When I read reviews, I disregard ones that don't own the product they are reviewing. If you got the cash buy it.

3 out of 5 eggsNot worth the price.

Pros: Very fast without even overclocking.

Cons: For 1/5 the price you can buy an AMD chip that's essentially just as fast.

For 1/3 the price you can buy an i7 Sandy Bridge that isn't perceivably slower.

3 out of 5 eggsTrouble with overclocking

Pros: It's a six core monster with hyperthreading so basically you get 12 virtual cores which is as awsome as it gets unless you want to fork out over $2000 for a server processor like a Xeon. This is the best you can buy.

Cons: I'm having trouble overclocking this processor. Whenever I try to overclock it I get a "cpu overvoltage error" and my system becomes unstable. As far as I'm concerned a processor that costs over a thousand dollars should be designed for overclocking and I should never have a problem. I'm using a brand new ASUS rampage iv black edition which seems to be working fine so there is no good excuse for difficulty overclocking this processor which is why I give it only 3 stars (or eggs) out of 5. Since this processor is supposedly the best you can buy it should never give you an overvoltage error. I'm actually quite upset but I'm not a processor or motherboard expert so I'm not totallysure what's going on and the hassle of sending the processor back and getting a newer one is just too much. I had enough hassle building my system and I don't have time to send it back and wait for another processor.

5 out of 5 eggsApples Vs. Oranges?

Pros: This chip is extremely powerful, that's obvious, it is reliable and has Intel architechure, what else could you ask for.

Cons: The Price! Enough Said.

Other Thoughts: I hear a lot of people blab on about comparing this processor to the AMD FX-8350 Eight-Core processor, and honestly I have had enough and I will speak out for myself. Firstly, stop comparing these two, one is $1,100 the other is $200. Secondly, AMD is vastly better in value. Thirdly, calling the AMD-8350's architecture turddozer makes you look like a flamboyant idiot, if you must compare the two atleast speak like your an intellegent adult, not like a 5th grader. Lastly, this IS a great processor, the price is just vastly rediculous and so I will never again recommend this chip and will stick with AMD 9/10 times. P.S. I will remark that the AMD-8350's benchmark was equivalant to that of an i7 in the $600 range, enough said there, Thanks Lads.

1 out of 5 eggsGood but not worth the price tag

Pros: intel processors run cooler and consume less energy an utilize the cores better. this is quite fast and excellent

Cons: Now here's the catch i run 2 rigs one is a AMD fx 8350 and my second rig has this processor in it...... i only pay 200 for my amd 8 core and it run at 4.2 ghz on turbo..... seriously intel where in the hell do you get off charge this processor for this insane amount of money.... it's almost like intel is trying to insult me

Other Thoughts: Would have given this a 5 egg rating except for the price.... Completely unforgivable i won't be buying a intel product ever again..... my AMD fx-8350 hauls past this thing

5 out of 5 eggsTHE POWER!!!

Pros: Fast, effective, And can handle anything you throw at it match this with 64 gbs of RAM and Duel SLI Video cards and a SSD and there is nothing that can't be done. I do land scape and design and I also use Photoshop on a daily basis some times I have them both open at the same time I have never had an issue with speed with this system. I am currently overclocked to 4.9gbs and stable. Love this processor if you have the money to spend and you need power you should make the investment.

Cons: Power hungry, Expensive but worth it!!
