5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Love it. Overclocks to 4 GHz easily, can go higher with even mild tuning. I get around 147 gflops at 4 GHz. Encoding, virtualization, and gaming are a breeze on this chip.

Cons: Average computers will seem slower than ever

Other Thoughts: Socket 2011 is overkill for pure gaming, but it can't be beat if you need a large amount of CPU power for multimedia editing, HD encoding, and the like. The additional PCI-e lanes also come in handy if you're going for triple or quad SLI. AMD can't even come close to the socket 2011 platform. As with most Intel processors, 1.65v RAM is not a great idea.

5 out of 5 eggsFast CPU

Pros: Fast CPU. With 6 cores there's nothing i toss at this unit that slows it down. always stays below 40% load no matter what i do. So lots of power for years to come.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsbest at the time, still blazing

Pros: I bought this when it first came out in 2012. I'm still using it and there is no slow down in the new programs of today. I can't say enough about the practical speed of this processor. I feel like all the recent upgrade iterations are only incrementally improvements, and practically speaking there is no difference.

I have this on ASUS appropriate board, Radeon 7790, 32 GB, 500 GB SSD (recent upgrade to 1TB SSD). perhaps the best computer build I have had. I will likely still get several years out of this build. I do casual photography and some video rendering, but otherwise general home use.

Cons: pricey.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent CPU

Pros: This processor is a beast! It is fast! Excellent for video editing and gaming. When I am not actively using my computer I turn on Folding@home and it just tears through the workloads.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I've had this just over a year now and I love it. I want to get a second 2011 Chip and am a little torn between this and the 4930K.

I am stable at 4.2GHz with 64GB G.Skill 2133MHz memory and 4 7950's.

I am just getting into photo/video editing and it does everything I need it to without complaint.

Cons: Expensive compared to lesser chips.

5 out of 5 eggsStill an Excellent Processor

Pros: I purchased this for my first build in over 10 years back in 2012. After 2 years, it is still able to handle anything I throw at it. Coupled with the Sabertooth mobo, it overclocks with no difficulty, and temperatures are easily kept under control with the Corsair H100.

Cons: After 2 years, nothing to report.

Other Thoughts: My build:

4 out of 5 eggsSituationally Amazing

Pros: When used with programs that are capable of accessing and making use of all 6 cores, along with appropriately powerful cooling, this chip will justify the price tag.

Cons: Prohibitively expensive, with returns only being visible on the most incredibly demanding computer tasks. If you're able to make full use of this chip, liquid cooling should be seriously considered. This thing runs HOT.

Other Thoughts: If you're using your pc for things like autocad or rendering for graphics design or video game creation, this chip is absolutely worth the extra cost. For pretty much everything else, its unlikely you'll be able to make full use of its power. Mundane tasks don't even stress a single core, and unfortunately, the majority of pc games right now don't have optimization to allow them to even access the 5th and 6th cores.
