With an entirely new 22nm process, the 3nd generation Intel Core i7-3770 Processor achieves dramatic performance gain at low operating voltage. The integrated graphics has been beefed up with more horsepower and a rich set of new features are provided for a stunning and seamless visual PC experience with no additional hardware required. The memory controller has been updated to officially support DDR3-1600/1333, and there's support for the new PCI Express 3.0 standard. The 3rd generation Intel Core i5 processor delivers even more performance automatically when you need it and now a better visual PC experience built-in. With Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0, the 3rd generation Intel Core i5 processor increases your PC’s speed automatically for your demanding applications. That’s visibly smart performance with a boost.

  • newegg Intel Revolutionary 22nm transistors technology Transistors have now entered the third dimension. Intel brings 22nm 3-D Tri-Gate transistors (the core of microprocessors) to its third generation Core processors Ivy Bridge. Intel's 3-D Tri-Gate transistors are an important innovation needed to continue Moore’s law and deliver an unprecedented combination of performance and power efficiency. By forming conducting channels on three sides of a vertical fin structure, Tri-Gate transistors can have multiple fins connected together to increase total drive strength for higher performance. The new 22nm 3-D Tri-Gate transistors can deliver up to 37% performance increase at low voltage and more than 50% power reduction at low voltage.
  • newegg Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 More intelligent, energy-efficient, and dynamic than previous generation, Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 gives you accelerating performance when you need it. It delivers an even greater automatic speed increase by allowing processor cores to run faster than the base operating frequency for demanding applications if the processor is operating below power, current, and temperature specification limits.
  • newegg Intel smart cache Intel Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from faster, more efficient cache subsystem resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
  • newegg Integrated memory controller Integrated memory controller enables two channels of DDR3 1333/1600 MHz memory, resulting in up to 25.6 GB/sec memory bandwidth. Plus the memory controller's lower latency and higher memory bandwidth delivers amazing performance for data-intensive applications.
  • newegg Built-in visuals The visual features built into the 3nd generation Intel Core processor family deliver everything you need to enjoy a stunning and seamless visual experience. Intel Quick Sync Video and newly-added Intel Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) make media processing incredibly fast. New built-in Intel HD Graphics with DirectX 11 support delivers discrete 3D graphics performance without the needed cost and power of a discrete graphics card, and features Intel Clear Video Technology that enhances video playback, image quality, and color fidelity for a premium visual experience. What’s more, add another dimension to what you see on your PC with Intel InTRU 3D technology which supports stereoscopic 3D Blu-ray playback in full 1080p resolution over HDMI 1.4 and premium audio.
  • newegg Intel Virtualization Technology (VT-x) Increasing manageability, security, and flexibility in IT environments, virtualization technologies like hardware-assisted Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) combined with software-based virtualization solutions provide maximum system utilization by consolidating multiple environments into a single server or PC. By abstracting the software away from the underlying hardware, a world of new usage models opens up that reduce costs, increase management efficiency, strengthen security, while making your computing infrastructure more resilient in the event of a disaster.

5 out of 5 eggsIs Good Processor

Pros: Has done well for gaming and loads of adult content streamed in 1080p. I've had one bluescreen in two years and that was the fault of the game, not the processor.

For a middle of the line gaming rig it's more than sufficient and works like a dream without a hiccup.

Cons: Streaming doesn't seem to work out too well, and video capture goes full derp sometimes or looks awful. This could be due in large part to the fact that I also don't know how to do it.

My roommate won't shut up about how his ancient i7 is "just as good" even though we both know it's getting outdated, no matter how much he tries to justify that my newer-than-his-machine is still somehow inferior to his machine.

I can't really think of a con, actually. I didn't even use the silly fan out of the box. I have it somewhere but I never used it. So in that light I've also never had a problem with it either.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome...

Pros: Super fast. Relatively Cheap for Intel.

Cons: Limited Overclocking Capability.

Other Thoughts: I run this CPU overclocked to 3.9GHz with the stock fan. The temps stay around 40-45 degrees Celsius while on the desktop. For games like Battlefield 4, the temps stay between 70-75 degrees. Without being able to overclock the CPU much further, the stock fan cuts it but just barely.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Performance, Good Price

Pros: Great performance, decent price

Cons: The fan is cheap, but that's just what you get with a processor. It would be nice if the fan quality was better.

Other Thoughts: Not much to say, it's an Intel i5, it's what you'd expect.

5 out of 5 eggsSorry AMD

Pros: Shockingly fast!! On board graphics runs 24 inch widescreen no problem. Cannot believe how this blows my OC'd 4 core Deneb Phenom II away!! Last Intel I build was a Pentium 133MMX. Since then AMD 266K6 and so on. Decided to build an Intel for the hell of it. WOW!!! I seriously cannot believe how good this 200 CPU is compared to the 179$ AMD I bought last year! Now the kids can use the Phenom for Minecraft, the Intel builds will be MINE!!!!

Cons: Fan was cheap, I used it for a week and ponied up for a Coolermaster 212 EVO (measure first if you decide to buy this cooler). The stock fan worked but for my nice custom build I just couldn't stand looking at it.

Other Thoughts: I'm sold on Intel for my personal stuff just so I can say I have the best. The AMD's worked for me for years (not a big gamer but when I did they worked) Civ 5 for example ran adequately on the Phenom, on the Intel it runs crazy fast even with 10+ AI players!

4 out of 5 eggsIt's Intel or nothing

Pros: That's all I've ever owned and all I'll ever use. Bought this for my new Win 7 system build. After 5 months, everything is fine.

Cons: Had trouble with installing the heatsink on this. I don't know if it had to do with the holes in the MB, but the heatsink's 4 locking tabs would not all punch through and lock into place. Only 2 did, and all the tries on the other 2 were to no avail. That's the reason for deducting an egg. Had to buy a different brand heatsink, one that secures with screws. And it works nicely - that CPU is FREEZING! Intel should consider providing a heatsink that is easier to install.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Excellent CPU
Low price
Fastest CPU that I have bought and I very much like.
Uses less wattage than other CPU that I have had. 77W instead of 95W

Cons: No Hyper-threading support. But I don't use that, so it does not bother me.

5 out of 5 eggsI'm now a believer

Pros: Very fast, I upgraded from a AMD 3800 dual core to this and trust me there is a difference. I can't believe how fast this processor is even without overclocking. (I never OC my CPUs) Just knowing that I can is really awesome.

Cons: I'm no longer a AMD fanboy. I have always run AMD CPU's starting with the socket A's XP series. I was told on my new build to go for Intel by a good friend (Thanks Russ) because it's better for gaming. Glad I listened.

Other Thoughts: Even though I liked AMD I will definitely recommend Intel CPU's from now on.

5 out of 5 eggsDecent price/performance offering

Pros: Runs well and is easy to install. Benefits of 3rd gen. Intel is a bit pricey for performance but generally runs cooler and lower power than competition. The 3.3 and 3.4 seem to be a sweet spot in price/performance right now.

Cons: None.
