The 4th generation Intel Haswell Core i7-4770S processor is based on the 22nm Haswell Microarchitecture. With quad-core and eight threads, it runs at 3.1GHz clock speed and comes with 8MB of L3 cache memory. New compute instructions ensure enhanced performance per cycle. Improved Intel integrated graphics enable discrete-level graphics performance.

  • newegg 22nm Haswell Microarchitecture The new Microarchitecture (code name Haswell) has a fully integrated voltage regulator (FIVR) for simplified motherboard design. It delivers improved CPU performance and enhanced overclocking over its previous generation Microarchitecture.
  • newegg Advanced Vector Extensions 2 Advanced Vector Extensions 2 (AVX2) is an expansion of the AVX instruction set to be first introduced in Intel's Haswell microarchitecture. AVX2 makes the following additions: expansion of most integer AVX instructions to 256 bits, 3-operand general-purpose bit manipulation and multiply, gather support, enabling vector elements to be loaded from non-contiguous memory locations, DWORD- and QWORD-granularity any-to-any permutes, vector shifts and 3-operand fused multiply-accumulate support.
  • newegg Intel Hyper-Threading Technology Intel Hyper-Threading Technology delivers thread-level parallelism on each processor, resulting in more efficient processor resource use and improved performance on multi-threaded software.
  • newegg Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 Designed to increase performance of both multi-threaded and single-threaded workloads, Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 allows the processor core to opportunistically and automatically run faster than its rated operating frequency/render clock if it is operating below power, temperature, and current limits. Furthermore, the processor can optimize both processor and Processor Graphics performance by managing power for the overall package, allowing an increase in the render core frequency and increased graphics performance for graphics-intensive workloads.
  • newegg Intel processor graphics with Dx11.1 and OpenCL 1.2 Haswell core-based processors offer improved integrated graphics. The integrated graphics supports DirectX 11.1 for optimized graphics performance and OpenGL 3.2 and OpenCL 1.2 for enhanced general-purpose computing in GPGPU-supported applications. It also features digital display repartition, where digital display ports are wired directly to the CPU, and analog displays are handled by a Random Access Memory Digital-to-Analog Converter (RAMDAC) located in the Platform Controller Hub (PCH). It supports up to three independent displays: HDMI, DVI, Display Port, VGA (via Lynx Point).
  • newegg Haswell power-management innovation Haswell core-based processors offer advanced power management. It has 20x + improvement from prior generations and is automatic, continuous, fine-grained, and transparent to well-written SW.

5 out of 5 eggsSuch... Speed...

Pros: This processor is amazingly good, and it's not even the real thing (K). I would not have minded paying the extra 30$ for the K one, but I never overclock my gear so I don't really need it. The S version is still a BOMB. I have absolutely no regret about buying this over a 4th gen i5.

Cons: None... yet.

Other Thoughts: Intel rules!

5 out of 5 eggsLike it

Pros: Very fast, only 65 watts, impressed how runs suprisingly cool! I usually overclock but this cpu is fast enough so it's set to run stock.

Cons: Cheap and loud stock intel fan, even when set to silent mode in BIOS. But easily solved by changing to Cooler Master 212 EVO, so not really a con.

Other Thoughts: -Well integrated for my silent computer (ssd, fanless power supply, noctua case fans)
-Replaced stock heatsink/fan with Cooler Master 212 EVO because I wanted a slient computer. Set fan to silent mode in BIOS and surprised how the fan is almost always completely stopped and cpu is running around 32 degrees. Fan only starts (barely audible) when temperature reaches 45 during most intensive tasks which is rare. Very happy!
-Used artic silver paste.

5 out of 5 eggsBalanced high performance and heat

Pros: This is the lowest-heat Haswell i7 available, still achieving excellent performance. Not overclocking, just want high power and multitasking.

Cons: Expensive option, while not the absolute fastest available.

Other Thoughts: Using this for a Linux-based multipurpose HTPC + light gaming + VM and remote desktop server. Watercooled for a totally silent system. Excellent performance.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice Processor

Pros: Turbo Boost Runs Great
Video Exporting is Fast
8 Logical Cores
4 Real Cores
Great for gaming
If your not overclocking this beats the 4770k

Cons: RUNS HOT (i would reccomend a close lopp water cooler like the "Thermaltake Water 3.0 Extreme")
No overclocking (But its not meant for that anyway)

Other Thoughts: Runs adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects no problem Does awesome in games just runs very hot

5 out of 5 eggsExtremely Satisfied

Pros: Fast printing, sharp text, double sided printing, networks well, great win 8, 7 drivers.

We use this to print invoices and are very satisfied. Maybe not the cheapest toner but we got it on sale for 85$ on neweggs daily deals and it includes a 3k toner. You can get a 3k toner for 50$ or 5k for around 100$ we purchased two 3k toners for 100$ overall very pleased. Works great on windows 7 & 8 networked.

Cons: Toner a tad pricy but 3k pages for 50$ isn't half bad in my opinion.

Other Thoughts: I'm very happy with this purchase.

2 out of 5 eggsUpdate: Green Monster from the Depths of Heck

Pros: Powerful CPU.
30 dollars cheaper than the real thing.

Cons: Continues to run ridiculously hot. 90C loaded stock. Throttles itself below 3.1ghz to keep up.

Balancing out former review with this one because I bought a 4770k expecting it to run hot, too, but it doesn't. It idles at room temperature running the 4770s top clock 3.9. 17 degrees cooler at same speed.

Feel misled slightly about the 65W TDP on the 4770s. That seems to indicate it would run cooler than the K. Just the opposite. Maybe I got lucky with my K and unlucky with my S but... anyone want to buy a tiny barbecue grill?

Other Thoughts: Forum posts elsewhere seem to indicate that many other 4770s chips are running so hot that they throttle under stock speed. No turbo. Still throttles. I suppose this is "working as intended" but it was not what I expected.

5 out of 5 eggsFills Low Power Niche

Pros: I was looking the best performance I could get without using a high amount of power. (I'm concerned about the heat, not the power itself.) This filled my niche requirements nicely.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I'm generally disappointed that more products aren't available to fill my niche. Most CPU's seem to pair low power & low performance or high performance & high power.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Performer & Power Sipper

Pros: 4th gen intel goodness ... new instructions sets ... 8 threads ... dynamically adjusts like crazy to give you the best of performance and power savings

Cons: -

Other Thoughts: if ur looking for alot of power in an energy, noise and heat friendly package - this is it ... i wanted the 4770T but it seems to be a rare beast in the wild ... and after pairing this up with a zalman 7000alcu cooler heat is not an issue - idles in 30's and stressed it out in the high 50's, low 60's ... this things is amazing in a lian li TU200B with GTX760, Asrock Z87 ITX and 16 giggles of DDR3L - cool, quiet and powerful ... i will never build a micro or full ATX system again - it just isnt necessary the way things have evolved
