2 out of 5 eggsDon't use the stock cooler!

Pros: - Very powerful processor
- Runs very efficiently
- Stable

What can you say? It's an Intel processor, and Intel is building good stuff these days. Powerful, efficient and stable, that's what you want out of a chip. Also, the surrounding ecosystem, chipsets/drivers, are also very mature and stable. This chip (or any Heswell chip) is a great platform to build a system from.

Cons: - The supplied cooler is not sufficient

The supplied cooler is not sufficient to keep the processor within a reasonable thermal envelop at full utilization. A stock cooler should be able to keep a stock CPU out of the 176F/80C range (chip instability starts in the ~90C range) at room temperature (75F/24C) in a well ventilated case, however, during my testing the CPU got up to 214F/101C! This is completely unacceptable, and it is negligent on the behalf of Intel to supply a cooler that isn't adequate to fully support the product it's included with. It would be better for Intel to not provide a cooler at all, than to provide one the customer believes is adequate when it is in fact not. For this reason I'm taking more than just one star, as this oversight could damage your CPU if not corrected. Shame on you Intel, shame!

Other Thoughts: As I said above, the Haswell platform is great, and it stands as an example of chip engineering at its finest, and if I was only rating the processor I'd give it five stars. (My system idles at 26 watts at the wall!) However, the product is not only the processor, it's the supplied cooler as well, and it's not just that the cooler is bad, it's that it is completely outrageous for a company of Intel's stature to provide an included cooling solution which blatantly places the product it's meant to protect at risk. I'm utterly disgusted!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Processor

Pros: A fast and stable multi-tasker, very suitable for a gaming/workstation build. Also not a bad choice for a SOHO server. IF youre specifically building a computer just for gaming, then grab the 4670k or wait for devils canyon.

Cons: For those of you hoping to run this thing at max turbo (3.9 Ghz), you'll have to disable two cores. Who buys a processor with 4 hyperthreaded cores and then disables two of them? No one. So Lets be realistic - this processor turbos to 3.7 Ghz. I knew this going in but i still wish that Intel wouldn't be so dishonest and misleading when marketing the turbo boost feature of their chips.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's an i7!

Pros: It is an Intel. Issues with non-supported software will be a thing of the past. It is a quad core with dual threads. 3.5 GHz should run a little faster than my two previous 3.2GHz machines.

Cons: I haven't hardly had time to play with it yet, I did get a hard drive with an OS loaded up last week.

Other Thoughts: Can hardly wait to run it through some real life streaming video and other things I do with my computers.

5 out of 5 eggsUnlimited Powah!!!

Pros: Easy install. Very very fast, and so so small. Going from the bulking AMD Phenom II to this was a huge improvement in size.

Cons: None

4 out of 5 eggsHas gone well so far

Pros: Came with heatsink & fan with paste applied ready to install. Posted on first power-on in my Supermicro C7Z87-OCE mainboard cold out of the box. Video does triple display very well for a work station (no high power games). Scores 6.7 in the display score areas with Windows Rating. 7.7 everywhere else. Does anybody get lower scores??

Cons: Bought CPU thermal paste and didn't need it. Wires on stock heatsink and fan combo need a cover and better routing to stay out of the fan. Price is high.

Other Thoughts: LGA 2011 is nice (have that too) for separate video configurations. LGA1150 is handy for a general work station with on-board triple display and the option of adding video card is always available if needed in the future. Don't go cheap, get the CPU that will perform. Waiting sucks.
