5 out of 5 eggsAMD Fan Converted To Intel Fan By This CPU

Pros: 8 core, not 4 core 7.8 windows rating
went from amd fx 6350 to intel because of an epic fail on amds fx and apu prossecor line... long story short dont play mass effect on an AMD system. also frame rates in starcraft 2 went from 40 to 130.

Cons: I feel bad about giving my amd system to my cousin i found out that he plays mass effect on the pc as well as his ps3 'sigh'

5 out of 5 eggsIntel I7

Pros: Blazing fast, includes Intel graphic chip, quad-core, 8 threads

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: purchased this model because no real interest in over-clocking or a separate video controller.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice

Pros: Everything.

Has QuickSync; AES support; vPro (nice, when paired with appropriate motherboard); VT-x, VT-d, VT-x with EPT (nice, when using virtualization technologies that support it); and a number of other useful features onboard.

Cons: I don't like the heatsink/fan mountings that rely on "push pins" to secure them to the motherboard. I have had too many "push pin" heatsink/fan assemblies "get loose" or just plain "wonky" on me. I replace those "push pin" assemblies with Dynatron K5 92mm (N82E16835114136) heatsink/fan mountings that use screws to secure the entire assembly to the motherboard in a "sandwich" fashion; heatsink/fin-MB-backplate.

Other Thoughts: I don't overclock so I could not justify the cost of a i7-4790K.

I am using this in a Windows 7 system that supports VMware-based virtual machines and has a Supermicro motherboard (N82E16813182829) that supports the various Intel VT features mentioned above.

5 out of 5 eggsruns cool, run fast

Pros: -runs relatively cool, mine idles at about 35-40 degrees C even in a cramped uATX case with the stock heatsink
-runs fast. Short of the overclock-able 4790K, this is one of the fastest processors this hardware generation has to offer.

Cons: -expensive

Other Thoughts: While quite a bit more expensive than similar AMD chips, it runs much cooler, and apparently benchmarks higher than all but the FX-9590, which does so at the cost of running at a blazing hot 220W vs the 4790's 84W. If you need the absolute best and need it to run coolly and reliably, then accept no substitutes.

5 out of 5 eggsToo fast

Pros: It's fast. It's an intel. It's an i7 with 3.6 Ghz of power. What more do you need to know?

Cons: Not Haswell-E. But that's a whole different product line

Other Thoughts: Honestly. I wanted to give this CPU a 1 star review, because before I upgraded to this unit I had plenty of time between loading my games to eat/drink/smoke/pack bowls/text/internet, and I'd gotten pretty habitual with those pre-game "rituals" and now with this lightning fast processor there are virtually no load times now, which requires me to stuff my food down quickly or die more often in online matches to give me time to have a smoke break; I basically needed to adjust my lifestyle. This thing is too fast, man

4 out of 5 eggsIntel Core i7-4790

Pros: Good I use this thing for gaming. it's an amazing processor for the tasks I put it through.

Cons: The price it's kind of high since is not an overclock processor. After a while I figure that the Intel Core i5-4690K Devil's Canyon performs just as good as this one. Anyways its a good processor.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Its a fast processor. Has not shown any signs of being slow. Very advanced in terms of power usage. Works well with the ASUS boards.

Cons: Not as fast as the Intel Xeon processor I have in another computer.

5 out of 5 eggsIntel quality

Pros: As everyone else says, it's fast. No complaints whatsoever.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I bought this instead of the 4790k to save $50, only to find it went on sale for the same price a week later.

5 out of 5 eggsFast, stable and powerful

Pros: Plenty fast
Stable and reliable
Reasonable temps
Hyperthreading
Performs great as a vid editing CPU
Low power consumption - 84 watt TDP

Cons: Pricey if you're on a budget.

Other Thoughts: I mounted it on a Gigabyte GA H97 D3H motherboard (v 3 Bios) and the install went off without a hitch. Detected and ran immediately.

I'm using a hyper 212 EVO to cool, and with a vid rendering, email open, another vid playing, and many browser tabs open, it doesn't go above 60 C - maxes at about 57 or 58 C. It did break 60 (63 C) when I did an FFT test with prime 95, fully stressing the cpu - but I never seem able to duplicate that in real world applications. It multitasks like a beast with room to spare.

I'm editing with Sony Vegas. CPU only rendering times (no GPU assist) for 720p are roughly one to one with this cpu - a 2 min long vid renders in 2 min. And generally two to one + 10 % for 1080p with hgith bitrate. So a 2 min long 1080p vid renders in about 4 mins 20 secs. Those are approx numbers, but a close general rule of what results I'm getting. That's w hyperthreading enabled in Vegas, and Win 7 64 bit on an SSD, w 16 Gb RAM.

Although it would be unfair to compare this across the board to my last cpu - an AMD FX 6300 - in terms of numbers it performs on avge about 40 to 50 % better depending on the application. Most noticeably in the vid editing and rendering process.

It is pricey for some but you get a top line quality cpu that will last for several years. It's a purchase I'm very happy with and glad that I made.
