5 out of 5 eggsintel i7-4790s processor

Pros: my favorite processor at this time.
i have been building my own pc desktop towers for year now.
by moores law i should probably get a new pc every 3 to 6 years
the i7-4790s intel processor is
an equivalent i7-3770s intel processor.
that is the reason i purchased it.
i love the i7-3770s processor.
.....
i considered the latest genration processor but the one i looked at was unavailable at the time or needed to be bought from a japanese source and i discovered that the newest processor has been bastardized by intel for some reason to use the cache for graphics.
what a waste. i will go with intel's best recent past achievements and not purchase future newest generation focusing on graphics while sacrificing intel processing power.
so there you have it.
i purchased what i believed to be the best intel processor and perhaps ...

Cons: none that i know of

Other Thoughts: i love intel i am deeply sorry that intle is wasting processor power on graphics on its latest generation of processors

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Chip

Pros: Great chip in such a small TDP. 4/8 in just 65W but running at 4.00ghz nicely. Overclocks well.

Cons: Of course I would always want ita little cheaper, its on the pricy side, $25 less would be nice.

4 out of 5 eggsCPU Good, Fan Cheap

Pros: Low energy, low heat, yet fast CPU. The integrated video is enough for regular work, no need for dedicated video card (I have a separate gaming machine)

Cons: The CPU fan is really cheap. The low heat CPU doesn't need much in terms of cooling, but the fan isn't as quite as it should be, the blades a a bit exposed (careful with cables), and the construction feels very flimsy.

Other Thoughts: Be careful to not have any cables near the CPU fan, its own cable can get stuck in the blades.

2 out of 5 eggsDoA Shuttle DS87 CPU

Pros: Reviews indicate this is an excellent low voltage CPU for mini PCs, but I was unable to test or verify the claims since it arrived DoA from Newegg.

Cons: System did not POST, display graphics on HDMI and 2x DisplayPorts after getting the Shuttle PC RMA'd and changing out the RAM.

Well, I can't return the CPU back to Newegg but have to go through Intel's tedious warranty process. Definitely should have a policy change. Subtracting Eggs from here.

Other Thoughts: Should allow DoA products to be returned...

5 out of 5 eggsCore i7 4790S

Pros: Fantastic processor speed control based on usage. It clocks itself down to ~800 MHz when it is not busy, and when power is needed ramps up to ~3.2 GHz on all eight threads and ~3.6GHz on all four cores, or ~4.0 GHz on a single core/thread.

Cons: .

Other Thoughts: I left the cons blank beyond the requires period sign to submit the review. Putting any text in there would do the processor injustice, even if it was glowingly positive.

I cannot imagine why anyone could want more than this except for perhaps the tweakers who want a K-series processor to overclock or an LGA 2011 processor to feed their ego and brag to their friends.

5 out of 5 eggsLike a boss.

Pros: This thing is pure awesome. It seems to run a lot cooler then other i7s out there was checking out other reviews of 7's and they seem to run hot but this thing stays right around 19c - 40c has a ton of power can't wait to see what else's this thing can do.

Cons: Nadda

5 out of 5 eggsQuite quick

Pros: Low power consumption, 4 cores-8 threads, EFFICIENCY!

Cons: How about 45 watts at 4GHz unlocked. Hahaha

Other Thoughts: As much as I liked AMD, their TDP and performance was lacking. The AMD quads slugged out doing video conversions and photo edits. The video side was far more demanding but all those seconds/minutes waiting is lost work productivity.

This rig beats through 500 frame conversions in 7 minutes not a half hour like the AMD. F@H SMP on WU 6906 was stepping at 7.X minutes.

Stock cooler manages at 54-55C when F@H was breaking it in. Have a 212+ but when doing video and photo edits, it maintains 50-51C. The stock cooler is sufficient for my uses and is quiet.

Pleased. :)

5 out of 5 eggsSilly Fast

Pros: Blazing fast

Cons: with all the advancements in technology, they still cant come up with a design on the stock fan that prevents the wires from hitting the actual fan...

Other Thoughts: Paired with a Samsung SSD, windows 8.1 is instant with everything....built an awesome media center/storage/hyper-v server all in a small mini itx box...

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: Performs well, lower power consumption; can run turbo for prolonged periods

Cons: Cannot overclock - I find it to be fast enough as is

Other Thoughts: Comes with heatsink/cooling fan, though I used my veteran cooler master hyper

5 out of 5 eggsSolid performer

Pros: This is really for users who don't want compromise, when it comes to day to day applications. I haven't run any games with its built-in graphics, but I'm sure it would do some lesser graphics intense games just fine. I put this on a mini-itx system with Win 8.1 (+ Classic Shell) and applications are ridiculously fast (office and IE). I built this for my grandmother. I wanted this computer to be the best for what she does; writing stories about her past, email and board games software. Is it overkill? Very much so! That's how I roll, as this will passed down to whomever in the family and be a gift of remembrance that will be relevent for years.

Cons: Not overclockable, but we all know that that isn't what this cpu is for.

Other Thoughts: This is going to knock my Gram's socks off!
