The Intel 4th generation Core i5-4690 processor is based on the new 22nm Haswell Microarchitecture for improved CPU performance. Advanced power management innovations help keep power consumption in check. New compute instructions ensure enhanced performance per cycle. Improved Intel integrated graphics enables discrete-level graphics performance. Extract more power from your Haswell core-based processor.

  • newegg Haswell Microarchitecture on 22nm process The new Microarchitecture (code name Haswell) has full integrated voltage regulator (FIVR) for simplified motherboard design. It delivers improved CPU performance and enhanced overclocking over its previous generation Microarchitecture.
  • newegg New 4 generation Intel Core processor family instructions Haswell core-based processors come with Intel Advanced Vector Extensions 2 (Intel AVX2). Intel AVX2 expands integer data to 256-bit SIMD to increase the performance of integer operations. It also offers new capabilities such as Gather and FMA (Fused Multiply-Add). Additional new instructions accelerate key algorithms including parallel extract/deposit, bit manipulation operations and new rotates/multiplies/shift. The AES-NI performance is also improved.
  • newegg Intel processor graphics with Dx11.1 & OPenCL 1.2 Haswell core-based processors offer improved integrated graphics. The integrated graphics supports DirectX 11.1 for optimized graphics performance and OpenGL 3.2 & OpenCL 1.2 for enhanced general purpose computing in GPGPU supported applications. It also features digital display repartition, where digital display ports are wired directly to the CPU and analog displays are handled by a Random Access Memory Digital-to-Analog Converter (RAMDAC) located in the Platform Controller Hub (PCH). It supports up to three independent displays: HDMI, DVI, Display Port, VGA (via Lynx Point).
  • newegg Haswell power management innovation Haswell core-based processors offer advanced power management. It has 20x + improvement from prior generation and is automatic, continuous, fine-grained, transparent to well written SW.
  • newegg Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 More intelligent, energy-efficient, and dynamic than previous generation, Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 gives you accelerating performance when you need it. It delivers an even greater automatic speed increase by allowing processor cores to run faster than the base operating frequency for demanding applications if the processor is operating below power, current, and temperature specification limits.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat processor, very snappy!

Pros: Bought one of these to replace a tired old core2duo e6400. What can i say, difference is night and day. This processor is screaming fast by comparison. Handles games and multitasking with ease. Have not overclocked as of yet, don't feel the need to.

Cons: - Wasn't free.
- Doesn't make me coffee.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great.

Pros: Much computes!

Cons: What cons?

Other Thoughts: Not much to say. I bought this to replace my old q6600 box after many years of faithful service.

I plugged this into an asus z97-e board and it fired right up and has been trouble free as one would expect. My box starts up in under 5 seconds and does not slowdown under any stress that I can throw at it.

I was unsure if i should spend extra money on an i7, but really this i5 doesn't leave me wanting more. I made the right call.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Processor!

Pros: Runs like a champ! Very fast and dependable. It has been in service for approximately 6 months and seems to be rock solid. Runs cool, the fans (processor, case and PSU) always run at low speeds, so quiet I sometimes think the computer is turned off.

Cons: None at this time.

Other Thoughts: This is the first Intel PC that I have built for myself and I have been very impressed with it. I use this PC for office work and the internet so I do not push it like a gamer would. I have been a AMD person since 1998 and decided in 2015 to change to Intel based on reviews and power consumption comparisons. So far I have been very satisfied with my i5 and will know more when I start editing pictures and videos.
I strongly recommend this processor to others.

5 out of 5 eggsAWESOME product!

Pros: Super fast.
Cheap, but great quality.
HD 4600 graphics are nice.

Cons: Stock cooler fan usually fails after a year or so.
Do yourself a favor and buy an aftermarket cooler..

Other Thoughts: I always recommend Intel products.

1 out of 5 eggsstopped working

Pros: worked great for a while

Cons: stopped working, replaced every part and cpu still doesn't work, when it stopped working and no apps were open and no load, going to have to go back to AMD as I can't spend that much for another one

5 out of 5 eggsSmooth like buttah

Pros: Runs cool even under high load

Cons: price - double the cost of an AMD proc of the same specs

Other Thoughts: Installed on a Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD7 mobo, and cooled with an Antec Kuehler 1250 dual-fan liquid cooler. Running SWTOR ops and Warzones (16x16 PvP battles) and this proc doesn't even flinch, whereas my old AMD Athlon II would tap out after 10 minutes due to increased heat. Haven't really pushed it hard, though, as I'm not overclocking it, 3.5 ghz is fine for what I need. We'll see how it handles SW Battlefront!

5 out of 5 eggsPERFECT

Pros: does great, I was in debate if I needed an i7, and the i5 has served me SO well. no issues so far. I am a relatively casual (but constant) user, so if that sounds like you, i5 may be all you need.

I also got a great deal on a laptop with an i7 and although it's pretty powerful I still feel my desktop is doing great with the i5.

Cons: these things are expensive!
