5 out of 5 eggsGlad I got this.

Pros: Oh man...coming from an old i3 laptop, this was like going from a bike to a sportscar. At first I felt like I was gonna be disappointed not getting an i7, or an overclockable i5, but this thing is great. Photoshop is so fast.

Cons: For me there aren't any, I don't do anything that requires the power of nicer CPUs.

Other Thoughts: If anyone else does photo editing, I just wanna point out that photoshop runs great with this CPU, but lightroom is just as slow as it was on my old laptop. This is just because lightroom is slow, it's not your CPU's fault!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU with Good Power

Pros: This CPU is amazing for what I use it for. It easily handles all of my games like GTA, Titanfall, and other games well. If anything starts becoming intense, it turbos from 3.5 GHz to 3.85 GHz. Haven't had a single problem with it. This is a good CPU for if you want to build a decently priced PC with good power.

Cons: Nothing, it does the job perfectly.

Other Thoughts: Can't wait for Intel's Skyline series.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid gaming performance.

Pros: Satisfying clock speeds, cache and future proofed for a couple years.

See other thoughts...

Cons: No hyper-threading. Although for gaming and general application this processor will perform in style.

Other Thoughts: Current Computer Specifications.

Case- SilverStone SST-PS07B
Power Supply- CORSAIR CX series CX750M 750W
Motherboard- GIGABYTE GA-H87M-D3H LGA 1150 Intel H87
Memory-G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB
Hard drive- Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX 1TB
Video Card- GTX 760 4GB EVGA
Optical Drive- LG 24X DVD Burner
CPU- Intel Core i5-4690 Haswell

There are GPU and sound upgrades soon. But at this moment this computer can play GTA V with most settings on high with a respectable frame rate that would make anybody happy. In other words this processor is very nice and lived up to my person expectations. User experience may vary. In closing, thank you for reading.

Sincerely,
Anthony

5 out of 5 eggsSmokes my AMD FX 8350

Pros: I've always used AMD, because of the price point, but I purchased this for a build for my son. I'm impressed, this thing smokes my FX 8350 and I almost regret not building an Intel system for myself. However I'm waiting for the AMD Zen processor lineup before I build my next rig.

Cons: None - maybe the price, but at this price point, I really can't complain.

3 out of 5 eggsNeeds aftermarket cooler

Pros: Fast chip, it's Intel.

Cons: I do not overclock. I have a clean, dust free full tower (yes large) case with good airflow. I keep my house at 72 degrees. I have an 80mm fan pushing air over my drives up front. I have a 120mm fan pushing fresh in front of my CPU, I have the stock intel cooler securely fastened the first time with the proper amount of thermal paste on the chip and another 120mm fan pulling air out behind the CPU. At idle it runs at 27 degrees celcius but run Prime95 for even a few seconds and you start hitting 90 degree temps. I even had to cut the CPU time to 60% on BOINC (seti@home) for fear of overheating. Already ordered my Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO which Intel really should pay for.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU

Pros: - Runs fairly cool: about ~35 degrees on idle with the stock cooler, up to about ~50 degrees from hours of gaming
- Significantly better VALUE than most AMD options at the moment (especially for gaming)

Cons: - The stock cooler is not the greatest, a little noisy

Other Thoughts: My best advice for processor purchasing for the current i5 line-up:

- Find whatever Haswell i5 is on sale and buy it. If the unlocked version (has a 'k' on the end of the name) happens to be on sale, you should get an aftermarket cooler so you can take advantage of the over-clocking without dealing with over-heating (assuming you have the Proper MoBo chip-set).

- I personally believe that the best VALUE is to get an H97 motherboard (no over-clocking), buy a locked i5 Haswell processor (when it's on sale), and you'll be fine with the stock cooler. HOWEVER, if you're serious about minimizing the noise you'll want to get an aftermarket CPU cooler anyway, so this option might not be the best value for you.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth every penny

Pros: Fast and smooth performance. When needed it will ramp up to a bit over 4Ghz, but for non-games it hovers around 800 - 1400 Mhz and runs everything just fine.

Runs very cool on the stock heat-sink.

When it ramps up to 4Ghz, the chip never goes above 125 F.

When it is idling(800 Mhz) it hovers around 90-93 F.

Yes, with the stock heat-sink.

The fan on the heat-sink is small and quiet.

Cons: It doesn't make me sandwiches.

Other Thoughts: I don't know how the embedded graphics are since I use a real video card but this processor is screaming fast and runs cool.

What more do you need?
