5 out of 5 eggsupgrade

Pros: Excellent price/performance for an Intel cpu. Low power, runs under 40 degrees with stock cooler. No pins. Before installing video board had the haswell graphics interface at 1080p and it ran windows 8.1 just as fast as the 4830 I had installed previously. Benchmarked 32 bit single core and multi core performance is very high. Just a tad slower than the 300+ dollar i7's. Noticeably faster than my old setup.

Old :
Phenom II X3 710
ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO
Team Vulcan DDR3-1600 2x4GB
Sapphire 4830
Rosewill 600W Max 80 plus

New:
Core i5-4690
Asus Z97-P
Team Vulcan DDR3-1600 2x4GB
EVGA GTX-970 SSC
Rosewill 600W Max 80 plus

Cons: Expensive (but superior) compared to AMD processors.

Other Thoughts: I was going to buy that X4 860 from somewhere else when they had it for 69.99, but they raised the price before I could actually decide what video bd I wanted to go with it. I'm kinda glad they did, as I decided to go bigger with this processor. At 100 dollars for the 860, this chip is actually a better deal. It uses significantly less power to move significantly more bits. Newegg is always my first choice for tech products.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing CPU, Great for Starters

Pros: This CPU is very good for first timers in building a custom PC. The speed and the HD 4600 graphics is quite good for the price. I am very pleased with this processor.

Cons: So far I am yet to have any problems with this CPU, I'm hoping it stays this way for a long time.

Other Thoughts: I suggest using this CPU if you are a beginner, it is a very good and cheap starter processor.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price

Pros: If you're not planning on overclocking, this chip is a great value. Runs very cool with a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus heatsink. No complaints.

Cons: Not really a con since it's part of the product, but obviously it's not an unlocked chip. You wouldn't buy this if you wanted an unlocked chip for overclocking.

Other Thoughts: Intel does a good job with packaging, it's not frustrating to pry open.

5 out of 5 eggsNice chip

Pros: Can't beat it, bought as a combo deal then saw the Intel Core i5-4670K Haswell Quad-Core 3.4GHz LGA 1150 was cheaper if I had bought both seperatly, by then it was too late. But oh well still a great CPU Highly recommend. Super fast love the boost to 3.9 from 3.5.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: Can't go wrong with Intel AMD are cheap for a reason. New Egg is still the best place to buy parts and build your system.

4 out of 5 eggsIntel Core i5-4690 Haswell Quad-Core 3.5GHz LGA 1150

Pros: fast
no crashes
long warranty

Cons: the stock cooling fan is just part of the packaging that goes into trash. No one uses these stock cooling fan for a high end processor like this one.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent!

Pros: Superb performance for a good price. Handles everything I've thrown at it with ease. With a Hyper D92 cooler, I've never seen temps make it past 40C even after gaming for several hours. The HD 4600 graphics are actually surprisingly good, at least good enough for some light gaming until I can get a GTX 970.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat processor

Pros: This processor is very solid. My old processor was an AMD Phenom II X4 970 - this Intel one is much better. Runs cooler, uses less power, and does everything with better performance. Watch dogs defaulted on Mid settings on my old processor, this one defaults to High setting by default. Can max out settings on all other games without any signs of slowing down or overheating.

Cons: Of course World of Tanks becomes a free item AFTER I finally buy this thing.

Other Thoughts: I bought this processor because I didn't plan on overclocking and the price was right. Stock cooler runs nice and quiet, even when gaming. No complaints here. Very happy with Intel, will buy from them again.

4 out of 5 eggsThis is probably the highest performing Intel CPU at this price point.

Pros: Fast
easy installation.

Cons: Doesn't overclock, but i'm not really into overclocking because i think the performance increase doesn't warrant the strain, and i've heard far too many horror stories about burned chips. Wait, is this still a con?

I actually had some trouble with the fan. The cord coils around the outside of the fan and plugs into the MB, which was fine, but when i started it up, i heard some racket. Took me a minute to realize the fan was hitting the wire. I uncoiled it from around the fan and tie wrapped it up nice and neat, but it annoyed me that it didn't coil properly without hitting the fan nipping the wire.

Other Thoughts: I think next build i may try an AMD processor. Price point vs performance, i think AMD can beat intel. A lot of what you're paying for here is the brand name. Not to say it's not a great processor, it is, but i think a similar processor might save you $50 to $75 on the AMD side. Search for some benchmark tests and decide for yourself.

3 out of 5 eggsFast and Stable

Pros: It's fast and stable, what more can I say, I like it.

Cons: Fan is for the garbage bin...... really intel? Can't run any decent stress test unless you want the cpu to shut down. For the price a much better fan should have been supplied.

Other Thoughts: It's a great cpu. Reliably fast and stable. Not exactly sure where an i7 would be noticeably faster. I'm sure it would be in some major repetitive tasks for business, but for everyone else, you can't go wrong with this one.
