Intel Core i5-4590 Desktop Processor (BX80646I54590)

The Intel 4th generation Core i5-4590 processor is based on the new 22nm Haswell Microarchitecture for improved CPU performance. Advanced power management innovations help keep power consumption in check. New compute instructions ensure enhanced performance per cycle. Improved Intel integrated graphics enables discrete-level graphics performance. Extract more power from your Haswell core-based processor.

Intel Core i5-4590 Desktop Processor (BX80646I54590)
HASWELL MICROARCHITECTURE ON 22NM PROCESS

The new Microarchitecture (code name Haswell) has full integrated voltage regulator (FIVR) for simplified motherboard design. It delivers improved CPU performance and enhanced overclocking over its previous generation Microarchitecture.

NEW 4 GENERATION INTEL CORE PROCESSOR FAMILY INSTRUCTIONS

Haswell core-based processors come with Intel Advanced Vector Extensions 2 (Intel AVX2). Intel AVX2 expands integer data to 256-bit SIMD to increase the performance of integer operations. It also offers new capabilities such as Gather and FMA (Fused Multiply-Add). Additional new instructions accelerate key algorithms including parallel extract/deposit, bit manipulation operations and new rotates/multiplies/shift. The AES-NI performance is also improved.

Intel Core i5-4590 Desktop Processor (BX80646I54590)
INTEL PROCESSOR GRAPHICS WITH DX11.1 & OPENCL 1.2

Haswell core-based processors offer improved integrated graphics. The integrated graphics supports DirectX 11.1 for optimized graphics performance and OpenGL 3.2 & OpenCL 1.2 for enhanced general purpose computing in GPGPU supported applications. It also features digital display repartition, where digital display ports are wired directly to the CPU and analog displays are handled by a Random Access Memory Digital-to-Analog Converter (RAMDAC) located in the Platform Controller Hub (PCH). It supports up to three independent displays: HDMI, DVI, Display Port, VGA (via Lynx Point).

HASWELL POWER MANAGEMENT INNOVATION

Haswell core-based processors offer advanced power management. It has 20x + improvement from prior generation and is automatic, continuous, fine-grained, transparent to well written SW.

INTEL TURBO BOOST TECHNOLOGY 2.0

More intelligent, energy-efficient, and dynamic than previous generation, Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 gives you accelerating performance when you need it. It delivers an even greater automatic speed increase by allowing processor cores to run faster than the base operating frequency for demanding applications if the processor is operating below power, current, and temperature specification limits.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great!!!

Pros: It works on all games I have tried that includes gta v and star citizen.
The heat sink it comes with has thermal compound all ready on it so it makes for easy setup.

Cons: no cons

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a budget CPU this one is a great choice.

4 out of 5 eggscpu is great the cooling system not so much

Pros: great cpu. i have not found anything that will slow this thing down. it only 4 core with no v-threads or v-cores or what ever they are calling them this week. Anyway i went with this cpu becuase i did not want to pay for an i-7. i am very happy with it. i am a hard core gamer. this plays everything i have without any issues.

Cons: the included cooling is just trash. you would think that INtel would fix this. or leave it out and lower the price. I would use it if i could get it to stay in place. it clicks and then 5 seconds later it loose again. complete junk. i am not sure if the motherboard maybe not to specs or the cooling system. but either way i have to buy a third party heat sink and fan. i took one egg off for the heatsink and fan not staying in place.

Other Thoughts: i had to turn off the c-state, speedstep and the turbo to get it to work correctly. i am not sure if that is the motherboard i am using or the cpu. the cpu had pauses when i opened a new program. i noticed the cpu was running at 800mhz at ideal and there was a 5 to ten second pause when opening new programs, sometime alittle longer. the cpu now runs at 3.3ghz all the time. as i do not care about the power usage nor do i have any cooling issues.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU

Pros: Runs fairly cool
Stock cooler generates no fan noise to speak of

Cons: It's not free, I guess?

Other Thoughts: I would 100% recommend this to others.

4 out of 5 eggsCould be cheaper

Pros: It's an i5.

Cons: Priced the same as Skylake and consumes more power.

Other Thoughts: If I wasn't worried about compatibility issues and other weirdness, I would have gone with a SkyLake chip, mobo and ddr4 for pretty much the same price.

5 out of 5 eggsThe family friendly build

Pros: intel uses the LGA, which I enjoy, I am always afraid of binding pins.

Cons: I have no other choice as the makers of AMD have not put out a decent CPU since the FX Bulldozer/Piledriver. I refuse to go back that far in the CPU category. I understand that late in 2016 there might be another AMD CPU but I will just have to wait for now.

5 out of 5 eggssnappy

Pros: for what it is its actually a pretty snappy processor and will run quite a few games (at low settings albeit) on just the integrated graphics.

Cons: none. quite seriously, even the stock heat sync is decent on this processor, if i sit at 90% for 20 mins i max out at something like 55-60

Other Thoughts: i would absolutely reccomend this or the 4690 for anybody looking to build on a relative budget.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat upgrade

Pros: Excellent performance
Good price
See below for my upgrade path...

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: When ever I read a review I always wonder what the reviewer is upgrading from as that is helpful in my buying decision. This was an upgrade from an EVGA GTX 650ti, ASUS P5N-D Board, 8gb Corsair XMS, and a Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0ghz processor.
The Core I-5 4590 processor along with a new ASUS Z-97pro Gamer 1150 board, Gigabyte GTX 960 Video Card, and 16gb Corsair Vengeance Pro ram is the new build and I'm quite please with the performance.

3 out of 5 eggsLess Than Impressive

Pros: Intel has finally developed decent graphics. This chip has a noticeably better processor than any AMD offering that has onboard graphics.

Cons: AMD's onboard graphics are still superior, as are the new Skylake chips. All Haswell chips run hot and this one is no exception. This is substantially slower than the 4690K that I did not overclock.

Other Thoughts: I bought this for a HTPC application that can burn Blu-Ray discs. I knew that there would be some performance loss from my main computer with the 4690K chip. But, I was surprised by how much slower this processor is at recoding video. Both computers are set up with H97 motherboards, Win 7 and NERO 12. The 4690K box takes 3.5 hrs. to recode and burn 20.5 gig of H.264 video to Blu-Ray. The 4590 computer needs 4.5 hrs. for the same project. My old AMD-9600 box took 5.5 hrs. to perform the same task. I didn't overclock any of these computers, but if Core Temp is correct the 4690K is running at 4.2 ghz., the 4590 chip is running at 3.5 ghz. and my old AMD 9600 ran at it's rated 2.3 ghz. while recoding video. If you are running processor intensive applications, you will want to step up to the 4690K. If you are building a gamers box, this chip could be useful, but AMD has less costly alternatives.
